Despite starting thinking about Christmas in August(!) this year, I'm still running behind on most things. So I thought I'd start a thread of what people have left to do maybe to act as a prompt for me to actually do these things!

On my list:

  1. Buy write and send cards
  2. Sort nursery / school / cleaner gifts
  3. Finish wrapping
  4. Buy something for a family friend I feel obliged to but is difficult to buy for so I put it off every year
  5. Tidy the whole house - or at least start hiding stuff in cupboards
  6. Meal plan and finalise online shop
  7. Food bank

... and finish stuff off at work!

I'm sure there is more stuff!

Anyone else feel like they are running out of time?

Absolutely nothing! I just need to cook dinner on the day.

BangingOn · 15/12/2021 07:32

I need to:

  • write the last few cards for neighbours and people we are seeing
  • 90% of the wrapping
  • make and fill crackers
  • write a packing list for everything we need for 5 days away
  • post work Secret Santa

then, next Thursday

  • pack and load the car. This will not be fun.
AuntieMarys · 15/12/2021 07:37

Nothing! And I'm not even cooking on the day.
Facial today.
4/5 meals out, 2 gigs and a lot of drinking before the big day.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 15/12/2021 07:38
  • Post Christmas cards (they are ready to go, just need stamps).
  • last few bits of present shopping, mainly stocking stuff (have today off so will hopefully sort that)
  • make up spare room for aunt
  • food shopping & preparation
  • wrap everything

Not too bad, all things considered. We have a few festive activities planned for DD, I'm working up until Christmas Eve, and need to make sure we have meals planned not just Christmas Day. This has been a very tough year, so I'm trying to make things as simple as possible.

reluctantbrit · 15/12/2021 08:16

Wrap DD's present - gets more difficult as she is staying up later now being a teen
Get DH to give me one or two more ideas for him
Make mince pies and gingerbread house with DD
make yule log
make marzipan
exchange gifts with friends
bring in the tree and decorate it

HunterGatherer · 15/12/2021 08:37

Well ive baked a cake so that's a start......
Eeeek!

HunterGatherer · 15/12/2021 08:38

I keep buying Christmas food but with 3 uni students just back at home it keeps being devoured. Hmm

DollyPartBaked · 15/12/2021 08:45

@AuntieMarys I think you are nailing Christmas!

  1. Buy birthday presents for my sister, BIL and grandad, who have birthdays in the three days after Xmas.
  2. Wrap everything.
  3. Set up my tree, but I’m leaving that to the last minute because between my 23 month old and my cat, it’s going to get knocked down almost immediately.
  4. I’m going back and forth on buying my son a nice outfit to wear Xmas day. He’s going over to his dads for a few hours in the morning and I really want him to look put-together. This is my first Xmas truly on my own (we were split up but still living together last year) and I want them to know I’m doing well on my own.

Unfortunately I’ve had to take some money out of my savings to stretch for Xmas, so it’s causing a bit of stress.

popcorndiva · 15/12/2021 08:54

Finished wrapping yesterday
So now

  1. declutter fridge and clean shelves ready for big shop
  2. 3 year old write his Christmas cards to his nursery friends
  3. finish Christmas delivery food shops
  4. pick up turkey etc on 23rd
  5. pick some Holly for table decor
  6. put together toy easel on Christmas eve night
  7. put out presents
  8. drink a massive cocktail
popcorndiva · 15/12/2021 08:55

Oh yeah forgot make gingerbread house with 3 year old which will go well Confused

Auntieobem · 15/12/2021 09:05

Am feeling v disorganised this year. Debating whether or not to bother with cards, haven't wrapped any 9f the kids presents, still waiting for a few presents to arrive, have bought mincemeat to make pies (but can't be bothered). Dog going in to get spayed tomorrow and have lost all motivation at work. Feeling a bit "meh" about it all to be honest.

Ohfudgeme · 15/12/2021 09:06

1, buy 4 gift certificates
2, make 2 lot's of passionfruit icecream slice.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/12/2021 09:12

Everything.

hivemindneeded · 15/12/2021 09:14

Put up tree
Buy a handful of presents
Wrap all presents
Write a handful of cards.
Buy party food for DC's small gathering (if it's allowed to go ahead.)

Sounds like a lot, but I have deep cleaned, decluttered, redecorated, bought most presents, bought tree, ordered turkey, made cake and puddings etc so I feel on top of it all for now.

blobby10 · 15/12/2021 09:29

Still on my list:

  • Clean house
  • Decorate house (tree was done last night)
  • Write cards
  • Post/deliver cards
  • Start wrapping
  • Buy final gifts from local deli which is open 9-5 Mon-Sat and I work
7- 5.00 and away most of this Saturday
  • Work until about 6pm 22nd to finish everything off
  • Make mince pies and sausage rolls for staff in factory/offices
(tradition) - must collect sausage meat from butcher on Tuesday.
  • Collect order from local Waterstones before it gets sent back
  • Write shopping list
  • Get shopping!
  • Change #2 DS bed as I've been sleeping in it when OH restless
  • tidy DD room so she can actually move in it before she comes back
on 24th
  • Help type out and print Carol Service sheets for Christmas Eve
service for Dad
  • worm cat
  • sort out dining room so we can get in to sit down at the table - glue
dodgy chairs so they don't collapse
  • help OH move his stuff into storage
  • help OH move his stuff out of student room in city an hour away
  • find somewhere in my house to store OH 'stuff' until he decides
where he's going to live in the New Year.

Oh cripes!!!!!!! 😎😎

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 15/12/2021 09:59

Amongst other things, I still have to make mince pies and speculoos!

They are my favourite part of Christmas and I've been looking forward to doing it since September. Where the hell does the time go?!

KateInHappyland · 15/12/2021 10:11
  1. Write and send my cards.
  2. Wrap presents (bought them all, they're just waiting to be wrapped up and given!).

That's all! We're going to stay at my mum's for a few days over Christmas and she's got most of it ready to go!

Peridot1 · 15/12/2021 10:15

A list is a great idea. But scary!

Order last few things DS asked for
Pick up framing - present for DS
Marzipan and ice cake.
Find bottles for marmalade gin
Finish and post cards
Wrap presents
Finalise supermarket deliver coming on 21st
Clean house
Change beds x 3
Get present for dog
Sort out if going up to MIL after NY
Make mince pies
Get some bits for DH

I’m sure there’s more.

Mommabear20 · 15/12/2021 10:18

Have 1 gift left to wrap for DD and then need to get cash out for the Chinese on Christmas Eve, but other than that we're done 😁

Rosebel · 15/12/2021 10:22

I haven't even started wrapping yet. LO is at nursery this morning so I should be doing it now but I can't face it. Tbf I have got tonsillitis so am feeling like crap. Still need to buy BIL his Christmas present and birthday present as his birthday is a few days after Christmas and some drinks for the girls.
I have ordered everything I need to but still waiting for some of it, hopefully will all be here by Saturday.
Luckily we're away for Christmas so no need to do a massive clean this year.
Every year I say I'll be organised but never happens

AuntieMarys · 15/12/2021 11:31

dolly I always do! I wonder what partners are contributing to some of the posters' lists. Or is Xmas just womens work?

fastandthecurious · 15/12/2021 11:35

Only wrapped DS' presents. Still got DH's and rest of family to wrap (normally he would help wrap family but I'm on mat leave this year so I said I would do it all 🙈
Need to get Christmas Eve buffet food
Buy hot choc bombs for Christmas Eve boxes
Do a deep clean of my house (no joke with a toddler and heavily pregnant with crippling PGP)

spagbog5 · 15/12/2021 14:33

Finish Ocado Christmas order tweaking

Wrap last couple of presents

Deliver neighbour's cards

Wrap and deliver friend's card and little gift

Make sure stocking presents are equal as we open one each while the others watch

Make herb butter for under the turkeys breasts

Otherwise I'm scarily organised!

spagbog5 · 15/12/2021 14:34

I forgot- marzipan and ice Christmas cake
