If you work in an office what time will you finish Xmas eve? I seem to have meetings all afternoon so I won't finish until 5 which seems really late . I'm hoping they get cancelled. Are you working normal time Xmas eve?

But I very much doubt they are thrown 'free' days on top of their annual leave allowance. It just doesn't work that way

Actually that is how it works at most universities. It's considered one of the few ( only) perks of working at a university

I finish at 12 Xmas eve, the office reopens 4th. Doesn't come out of my statutory holiday, we get it as extra. Was definitely a perk when applying for the job

What I meant is that it's part of the leave policy and is a formal arrangement - we're not just tossed a week's holiday as a random gift just because management felt like it.

We get a leave allowance of 38 days' leave which includes the week at Xmas (which must be taken then) and the public holidays.

Of course, other universities may not factor into the leave allowance like we do.

At 12pm hopefully. Back 4th January but have to use holiday for the three days in between Christmas and NY.

Is it my poor memory that in the " old days" in various jobs I'm sure we didn't have to take holiday. The company just closed and we were all off for the Christmas period.

And extra days BH next year!

We get the afternoon off so 12. Could any of the meetings be rescheduled for earlier in the week or after Christmas. Surely everyone in the meetings will want to finish early?

Yeah it's done differently at my uni. We get Christmas off in addition to our annual leave. Officially we close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and reopen the first working day back in the new year. However, the last couple of years the VC has given us extra days as a thank you. We close on 22nd this year.

I had noticed a few uni staff comment on this thread and I was waiting for someone to bring up tuition fees! It always happens!!

Where I work is definitely three free days in addition to our contractual annual leave allowance. I have 35 days annual leave and then in my first year, a colleague mentioned that we closed between Christmas and New Year and we got those days off "for free."

God, Imagine being the twat who books a meeting late in the afternoon on Christmas Eve.

I've never worked past 3pm on Christmas eve as far as I can remember

I've booked the day off but if I hadn't then 6.45! Administrator role in healthcare.
