What time do you finish Xmas eve?

If you work in an office what time will you finish Xmas eve? I seem to have meetings all afternoon so I won't finish until 5 which seems really late . I'm hoping they get cancelled. Are you working normal time Xmas eve?

Meetings on Xmas eve pm, what monster put those in?! I'm technically on leave but will have my work phone on for emergencies, I won't relax until I know the office is officially closed.

Tanfastic · 09/12/2021 21:24

NHS office so 5.pm 😜

pommedeterre · 09/12/2021 21:24

Try to finish around lunch, some years you can, some years you can’t. Some industries can’t be predicted!

BarryTheKestrel · 09/12/2021 21:30

I've taken annual leave but the expectation is 3pm for our team. We are a 24/7/365 organisation but our team is a Monday-Friday 9-5, no bank Holidays team. Christmas eve will be a day of tying up loose ends for the long weekend.

gogohm · 09/12/2021 21:32

Been given the day off (and 23rd)

SingleHandSue · 09/12/2021 21:35

We have to stay until 4pm (instead of the usual 5pm) but we’ll be very quiet so will be eating party food and having a laugh.

addictedtotheflats · 09/12/2021 21:37

Never, I work in A&E

stayathomer · 09/12/2021 21:37

Work in a shop and we finish at 6 /whenever we get everyone out!

lockdownalli · 09/12/2021 22:04

Close at midday Xmas Eve and don't reopen until Jan 4 Xmas Grin

Umbongoumbongo999 · 09/12/2021 22:08

I'm not working christmas eve this year, but usually the chief exec phones all the office departments and tells the teams to go home at 3ish.

Ohmych · 09/12/2021 22:10

I'm working until 6 this year.

Iamanicepersonreally · 09/12/2021 22:16

I'm working until 5pm on Christmas Eve

Taswama · 09/12/2021 22:17

We've been given the day off but I haven't worked Christmas Eve in 20 years.
From colleagues at my current company, people are told they can go home sometime between 2 and 4.

SallyOMalley · 09/12/2021 22:21

We've been given 2 extra days off this year, so we're closed on 23/24. We close during Xmas break anyway, and are being encouraged to take 20 - 22 Dec off. Two weeks hol here I come! And thank goodness - I so need a break.

Timeisavirtue · 09/12/2021 22:36

As my mum is my babysitter, and her days this year mean she works on a Friday afternoon which means I can’t work past 12, they don’t usually have a shift for 8-12 except delivery which thankfully we don’t have this year, which means I might actually have Christmas Eve off for the first time in 9 years. I’ll know on Tuesday 😊

Retail 6pm

Agadorsparticus · 09/12/2021 22:41

At my old job, retail head office we worked through Xmas but could go 1ish on Xmas Eve and NYE. Once all work was finished.

Constance1 · 09/12/2021 22:43

I'm very lucky as my work closes on the 22nd and we are not back until the 4th. We get this time on top of annual leave. It's not a greatly paid job but perks like that make it worthwhile :)

itsutterlyshit · 09/12/2021 22:47

When I worked office hours it was decided in the daY. We all started winding down around mid day in the hope the stand down was really early. The email usually came out about 1 confirming we could leave anytime after 2.
It was the same every year so I'm not sure why staff expected an earlier finish TBH

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 09/12/2021 23:19

I'm still on mat leave so not relevant to me this year, but I remember getting really pissed off one year when we were told we'd be finishing early on Christmas Eve and that there would be pub drinks in the afternoon for anyone who wanted to join, and they'd let us know exact arrangements on the day. The bosses didn't give an exact time in the morning, then fucked off for a long boozey lunch without saying anything, turned up 30 mins before the office would usually close and said "oh yeah, you lot can head off early tonight if you like, merry Christmas!".

I'm so glad I don't work there anymore. Really left a sour taste in everyone's mouth before the holidays.

Nat6999 · 09/12/2021 23:34

The office was open until 4.00pm but we used to spend the day with party food & drink just answering the phones but not much else.

Runnerduck34 · 09/12/2021 23:40

I always take it off as annual leave but colleagues who work Xmas eve usually leave about 2pm ,senior managers generally tell everyone to go home around that time.
Meetings up to 5pm are outrageous imo! Although I realise many work throughout Xmas period I think in offices things usually wind down.

BiddyPop · 09/12/2021 23:41

In the normal course of events, the building is locked up at 12:30 and staff generally leave by 12 ( or take a full days leave), having spent the morning doing social calls around the building. We effectively finish work at the end of the workday on 23rd.

I can't remember what we did last year as we WFH, I think effectively finished on 23rd but didn't need to login on 24th. I suspect it will be the same thing this year, even if only an unofficial local management arrangement.

HunterGatherer · 09/12/2021 23:47
