People shouting 'it's November!' just look like twats.

I don't have a tree up yet, or outdoor lights, but probably will put them up next weekend.

People getting cross with others for doing the above or buying stuff for Christmas or making plans by stating the month we're currently in, though... I'm sure we are aware of the date. Just let them crack on.

OP posts:

People can do what they like. But there is no need to call people abusive names if they aren't decking the halls with boughs of holly by mid-November. What happened to 'goodwill towards all men'?

The OP did not call people who don't put up decorations in November twats. She called the people who criticise others for doing so twats. Big difference.

I always respond with 'exactly , only x amount of weeks to go' 😊🎅

tootiredtospeak · 21/11/2021 09:10

I love Xmas and love to get ready for decorations I do think early November is a bit much but only because of the fact people want to then remove it all boxing day. I saw so many SM posts around this last year which I thought was a bit sad. But hey ho people make every other decision about what they do in their own homes without consulting the masses and this shouldn't be any different.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/11/2021 09:12

I love christmas and love seeing peoples lights and decs up and think its entirely up to them when they put them up. We put ours up on the first sunday of Dec its our tradition, DP and DS do the outside and me and DD'S do the inside then we watch a christmas film and have a takeaway.

Im one of the smug ive finished all my christmas shopping already people because i start buying in september, I cant afford to do it all in one go and also i hate the worry that i wont be able to get something of i leave it till Dec then what is a fun exciting month is turned into a stress filled month. Presents are done by the 1st Dec so Dec itself is about family christmas traditions

Popcornriver · 21/11/2021 09:13

Agree with the poster who said the people who put them up so early and then get fed up of them are the worst. I know a couple of people like this irl, Christmas is over for them before boxing day.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/11/2021 09:14

i hate the christmas music in the shops
it fills me with anxiety

Sprostongreen21 · 21/11/2021 09:17

That’s me though I’m not a twat. It’s lighthearted. I love Christmas but I don’t like it being dragged out for weeks in end. December for me!

Do find those that start decorating in November, then they get sick of Christmas much earlier and complain about it all. Then they take everything down on Boxing Day declaring it over! Still got up to new year to celebrate!

Mumoblue · 21/11/2021 09:20

I don’t like Christmas much. I hate Christmas music in November, so I guess I’m a “it’s November” person. I don’t give a single fuck when you put your tree or decorations up.
I do have a relative who is so into Christmas that they seem over invested into when I’m going to put MY tree and decorations up (December 24th wasn’t the answer they wanted).
I don’t particularly think I’m a twat. I just don’t like Christmas all that much, and don’t want it shoved down my throat.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 21/11/2021 09:20

My friend was criticised for putting her tree up in October one year - her dh had a brain tumour and was unlikely to last until Christmas. I never minded people putting decorations up but that did make me think, you have no idea people’s reasoning. We’re putting ours up 27 November as we’re away for the last 2 weeks of December.

tigger1001 · 21/11/2021 09:20

November is far to early for me. Couldn't care less about others.

I love Christmas and my Christmas tree but often I'm fed up of it by Christmas and desperate for it come down, and that's only after a few weeks. My tree doesn't usually last until new year

lescompagnonsdeloue · 21/11/2021 09:22

Literally shouting? Has this happened to you? People are literally going into shops and shouting "it's November", or going past a few lights and shouting "it's November"?

Newdad19 · 21/11/2021 09:22

But why do you have to comment? Why can't you just do what you want to do and let anyone else do what makes them happy without giving your opinion?
NewlySingle2021 · 21/11/2021 09:23

My mum and exH are these 'it's November!!' people. My mum actually rang me up last week to complain about seeing someone's Christmas lights on her drive home and I flatly repeated 'I like it, it cheers up the dark nights' over and over til she stopped ranting. My H was all 'what's the fuss, it's just one day' every year was moan moan, and for years I've felt like I couldn't enjoy my Christmas the way I wanted to because of their negativity. I can embrace it now! Now that the H is off the scene this year, it's going to be exactly what I want and no downplaying it for his joyless arse. So yesterday I put a few lights up. I felt so gloomy and down this past week. The evenings are so dark here before 4pm and setting up just a few fairy lights in my kitchen on a timer have really lifted my mood. I'll do the rest of the house and the outside gradually and when I feel like it. If it offends anyone they don't have to look!

MajorCarolDanvers · 21/11/2021 09:23

Probably the same people who got upset about Bonfire Night and Halloween.

RhubarbFairy · 21/11/2021 09:23

I'm one of the 'it's November' people.

What you do in your own home is of no consequence to me. What annoys me is that shops go into Christmas mode in October with aisles full of stuff. Some even play Christmas music, which means that by mid-December, I'm ready to destroy the speakers as it's so repetitive.

I get that people need time to prep but to have the build up for one day for a quarter of the year is nuts to me.

toomuchlaundry · 21/11/2021 09:24

I do find it odd that some people put their decorations up really early because they love Christmas and it makes them happy, and then rip them down on Boxing Day as Christmas is over!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/11/2021 09:24

It's the ones who do an "Urgent Please Help" on Chat/AIBU

I neeeeeeed a PS3 copy of SuperMario/Pokemon Crossover in New York 7 or my DS9 will be heart broken

On the 23rd Dec

Or I neeeed a turkey for 8 but I didn't order one -I've only managed to get a 3lb one people rally on with Oh lots of pigs-in-blankets to fill the gaps and tonnes of roasties or Can you get a turkey roll and slice it. Lidl have them

Christmas is the same day every year . It doesn't jump out and surprise you Xmas Hmm

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 21/11/2021 09:28

I kind of want to put mine up.

I bought new decorations this year after years of having a real mush-mash of oddities.

And I have all of the presents wrapped ready to go under it.

I’m actually buzzing to put it up.

HesperusWreck · 21/11/2021 09:29

We are having nothing Christmas related through the school this year.
So I am tempted to get decorating ti give us a sense of an actual advent!

HesperusWreck · 21/11/2021 09:30

I'll wait til December 1st because of fuddy duddy tendencies. However I'm totally behind other people's early decoration now. I used to be all for Christmas Eve decorating.😂

Hetyanni · 21/11/2021 09:35

Thank you!! Competitive cynicism is annoying all year round.

I'm not even a November twat- I'm a September twat 🤣

Tiredoftiers · 21/11/2021 09:35

I’m a bit Hmm at the folk who put their tree up just now and then have it down on Boxing Day. I love Christmas, I start my shopping in October however I do think we need to live for the moment not the one that’s still to come. It feels like the build up is more important than the day itself. Christmas for me runs through the holidays and only stops when the kids go back to school.

TopTabby · 21/11/2021 09:36

When my dds were little I started Christmas shopping in May. Like a pp says, it was too expensive to do everything in Dec.
Also, shopping early meant I could relax & enjoy the build up to Christmas more as it's so lovely with little ones.
I've been happy to see a few Christmas lights going up around here over the last few weeks as they brighten up the dark evenings. I'm putting mine up next weekend & looking forward to it.
The only thing I try to keep until December is Christmas songs, otherwise I'm utterly sick of them by Christmas!

Misspacorabanne · 21/11/2021 09:36

It's all about the build up for me, think we'll do ours next Sunday, but I always enjoy the build up the most, so I do like my tree up fairly early! I keep it up after boxing day, but like it down before new years day! I think I like to go into the new year knowing I haven't got to put away all the tree decs! New year new start and all that! Grin I'm isolating right now and I'm having to really stop myself from putting it up!! Grin
