Shit baubles

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 18/11/2021 19:09

Every year when the DC were little we would choose a few new baubles/tree decorations for our trees. It was a little tradition we had and there always seem such a wide selection to choose from.

Trying to find nice baubles now seems to be an impossible task, I don't want badly glued glittery rubbish and I certainly don't want baubles in the shape of sushi, balloon animals or bloody tacos that seem to be so popular in John Lewis currently.

Anyone got any recommendations for lovely baubles, we have a traditional green tree with red, green and white decorations a green tree with blue, silver and white decorations.

Have tried just about everywhere I can think of online and the high street.

You'll have to let us know how you get on! 😉

I got some lovely decorations from made51 which are made by refugees:

I limit myself to one new bauble a year. This year and last year I indulged a bit and got these:

They are really special!

I love looking in charity shops this time of year to pick up pre loved vintage decorations. I purchased the most beautiful frosted silver glass bells today to go on my tree.

Glad it's not just me, as much as I love some of the decorations I don't want an under the sea themed Christmas tree thanks John Lewis Hmm
I'm very much with you there! I cant imagine why anyone would. Very, very odd if you ask me!
mogschristmascalamity · 19/11/2021 22:55

I agree. Apart from dinosaurs. Every tree needs a dinosaur.

ConsuelaHammock · 19/11/2021 23:05

I buy my children a new decoration from Newbridge silverware every year for their stockings.

midlifecrash · 19/11/2021 23:36

I like the ethical superstore ones, pricey though

Excited101 · 19/11/2021 23:47

John Lewis have loads that aren’t novelty! Some really beautiful ones. Liberty usually do too but I haven’t been there this year yet.

Imaginarium?

The truck is buying them one or two at a time and building up a collection of individual ones. I also buy the kids one each every year for their stocking so they’ve have a little starter collection by the time they leave home.
Ebay for vintage glass decorations.

I was going to say just this when I'd read through!

I have loads from JL as well as Gisela Graham and non-branded multi packs.

@JesusIsAnyNameFree, we solved your potential tree dilemma with two trees. Mine is a lovely, Scandi-theme (in the main) tree. The kids' is the 'Christmas vomited' over it tree! They love the bonkers JL ones as well!

Myfanwyprice · 20/11/2021 08:41

I’ve got some lovely ones from Sass & Belle online before, I’ve just had a look and oh my word, every weird thing you can imagine - dinosaur wrapped in tinsel, asparagus! But if you can bear to look past the ridiculous, there are still some really lovely decorations!

Bloody hell, you are a genius! I shall be doing this if DS has any ideas this year Grin

@JesusIsAnyNameFree

We do this too. The DC's have their own tree, aka the 'sweetie tree' - because this is where their chocolate baubles, collection of baubles and all of the decorations made over the years go. It also means I can add multi coloured fairy lights rather than my rather tasteful white!

DC's are 24 and 26 now, but the sweetie tree still goes up. 😂

BumBurnerBum · 20/11/2021 17:14

Yes garden centres are great. Also, the Museum Selection website has some lovely things.

ConsuelaHammock · 20/11/2021 17:41

These are my favourite. I tend to avoid the overly decorated ones though.

Belleek pottery also have some beautiful hanging decorations .

Couchbettato · 20/11/2021 18:26

My Christmas present to my nan was a new tree this year and whole new decs because the last ones seem a bit dated and a bit shabby.

But I've not been able to find any less shabby looking baubles either, even though I'd be willing to pay good money for my nan. The tree brings her so much happiness.

Haha, that's quite sweet. Do they still decorate it themselves?

TheChild · 20/11/2021 19:59

There must be a name for people who have addictions to buying Christmas baubles and decorations, it's my favourite thing to do in the lead up to Christmas! I'm afraid our tree is a mix of the cheap B&M baubles we got the first year we moved in, and a collection of baubles of every style over the past 8 years. (Disclaimer, no scrotums, willies or breasts form part of the tree) My favourite is a soft ballerina doll bauble from TKMaxx, I went today to see if I could get something similar but they didn't have any.

John Lewis didn't seem to have as many of the quirky baubles this year (no colourful doughnuts or ice creams) but they had some beautiful glass baubles. This thread has inspired me to go on a garden centre mission to find more beautiful decorations (DH will not be amused!)

daisyjgrey · 20/11/2021 20:05

I buy one of Faye's every year.
