Shit baubles

Every year when the DC were little we would choose a few new baubles/tree decorations for our trees. It was a little tradition we had and there always seem such a wide selection to choose from.

Trying to find nice baubles now seems to be an impossible task, I don't want badly glued glittery rubbish and I certainly don't want baubles in the shape of sushi, balloon animals or bloody tacos that seem to be so popular in John Lewis currently.

Anyone got any recommendations for lovely baubles, we have a traditional green tree with red, green and white decorations a green tree with blue, silver and white decorations.

Have tried just about everywhere I can think of online and the high street.

So far out of any budget I might have that there is absolutely no way I could buy them! 😱😂😂

There's loads of traditional vintage decorations on ebay. I'm planning on raiding my Mum's collection of old baubles she doesn't use any more to get some genuine vintage baubles. Although looking on ebay some of my old baubles from the 90s are probably considered vintage these days!

Why is a shiny red ball with a gold pattern any more Christmassy or classy than a shiny sushi/sea creature/ dinosaur. They're all a bizarre* way of decorating a dead or artificial tree in the corner of the lounge in the end!
*For clarity I LOVE said bizarre decorating. This isn't a sniffy post about Christmas decs, just that I find it odd that some decorations are considered classier than others. For further clarify I'm not saying the penis decs are classy!

I do a vomit tree, but it has to be a little bit Christmas like. This was last year's addition.

We have some of MIL's now, she passed away in March and we found them when clearing the house.

Thank you for this tip 🥰 I've been looking everywhere for some very specific vintage baubles like my grandmother used to put on her bannisters (in a very specific pattern that HAD to be adhered to if you wanted to help with the decorating). Never occurred to me to look on eBay! I'm missing her terribly at the moment and I've managed to find ones almost identical to hers which has cheered me right up!

Shreddednips glad to be of service, I love the idea of all these old baubles being loved again in a new home.

@JesusIsAnyNameFree

Haha, that's quite sweet. Do they still decorate it themselves?

Aah, now that depends, on when they arrive home, how many friends they plan to see and how hungover they are!😉

They're grim, totally revolting, who in their right mind would buy that? I think it has to be the worst I've seen yet..

@TheYearOfSmallThings

Liberty has a nice selection if you're in London.
Or online I think?
ScandiNoir · 21/11/2021 23:45

I found some lovely ones on Etsy, there are a lot of talented people on there and I like to give my money to smaller enterprises where possible instead of John Lewis or similar. I've seen macrame baubles, decorated wood slices, all sorts. I've bought from 2 on there, a lady who makes baubles out of oyster shells, they are beautiful and another lady making stained glass baubles, really nice quality, both these have loads of good reviews and it's nice to have something a bit different.

Well thank you to all those who told me about Garden Centers!

DH and I took a drive to one this lunch time. It would have never occurred to look in a garden center and there were loads of baubles and not a shit bauble in sight!

I did pick up a few and am hoping to get a few more at the Christmas Show on Friday.

Sorry if it’s been mentioned but Accessorize do some lovely traditional tree decorations.

Suggestions2021 · 22/11/2021 20:24

Nkuku are fab.

BashfulClam · 23/11/2021 18:55

Garden centres are so festive at Christmas…we go every year just to look at the Christmas displays (I usually spend for a fortune).

Lovemusic33 · 23/11/2021 19:09

I found a few in TK Max, they have packs of 4/6 and individual decorations, also got a nice snow globe.

RoseMartha · 23/11/2021 20:11

There are some decent ones in garden centres but they are quite pricy

Arsewangry · 24/11/2021 09:10

I don't know if you are able to promote yourself on here so apologies if this isn't allowed but I crochet traditional Christmas decs like these.
