Shit baubles

Every year when the DC were little we would choose a few new baubles/tree decorations for our trees. It was a little tradition we had and there always seem such a wide selection to choose from.

Trying to find nice baubles now seems to be an impossible task, I don't want badly glued glittery rubbish and I certainly don't want baubles in the shape of sushi, balloon animals or bloody tacos that seem to be so popular in John Lewis currently.

Anyone got any recommendations for lovely baubles, we have a traditional green tree with red, green and white decorations a green tree with blue, silver and white decorations.

Have tried just about everywhere I can think of online and the high street.

Try UK Christmas world, but skip the avocados etc.
My best buys are at the garden centres that go all out for Xmas. Lots of choice there.

I actually love the weird ones, not the willies and boobs but the random food and sea creatures etc. They're colourful and some of them are very beautifully made. I don't actually have any on my tree though and haven't bought any, so maybe I'm just happy admiring them from a distance.

Garden centres are definitely the way to go. I do really like all the Gisela Graham ones. We sometimes go to Burford Garden Centre which is really gorgeous around Christmas and has lots of lovely traditional baubles.

Sarah Raven used to have beautiful glass baubles but they seem to have gone a bit more kitschy this year and I can't see them on the website.

Always loads of beautiful vintage decorations in charity shops

Whatwillbewilbe · 19/11/2021 11:17

I too have lots of beautiful traditional baubles from garden centres, you will find some sell online too. Here's a link to one that looks to have some some very nice baubles:

Loads on eBay,.I found some lovely Victorian style ones and the 12 days of Christmas song decorated baubles to

JunoMcDuff · 19/11/2021 12:28

Homesense have some lovely ones, but like TK Maxx it can be hit and miss depending on the store.

maofteens · 19/11/2021 12:35

Ha I'm an everything but the kitchen sink person - I even have a mini deck chair bought about 20 years ago! I don't theme it - the deck chair sits happily next to Peruvian yarn dolls and Victorian glass baubles, and yes the inevitable sushi!

Spiceup · 19/11/2021 12:36

I've bought some Royal Worcester ones as gifts this year.

goose1964 · 19/11/2021 12:45

House of Fraser has some classics www.houseoffraser.co.uk/christmas/trees-and-decorations/baubles

DialSquare · 19/11/2021 13:18

Fortnum and Mason had some lovely ones
when I was in there last week.

Spudlet · 19/11/2021 13:27

I don’t think I’ve ever bought a bauble from anywhere that wasn’t a garden centre tbh Grin A big one should have plenty to choose from! Hopefully something other than sushi-shaped ones, wtf is that all about Confused

AperolWhore · 19/11/2021 13:35

Have you tried Liberties of London? They have a brilliant range and we get a few decorations each year like you x

MainRd · 19/11/2021 13:44

These 'The Snowman' ones are hand painted ( even a video showing the technique). Look gorgeous. ( the others ...10 Downing Street ...??? Not so much) tommartinlondon.com/all-baubles/thesnowman

I was drawn in by the title and thought it was a splendid new idea for keeping costs down at Christmas... ah well!

I spotted a promising looking website on Facebook a month ago - clicked through and found that, aside from a few nice things, the baubles and decorations are nightmarish horror, at a vast price! Freaky pouting pig fish decorations, anyone?

Awful aren't they? The one I saw was a dick with bollocks. Head over to Buckingham Palace shop they have some very nice ones, expensive, but very tasteful and not a bollock in sight..
Belle82 · 19/11/2021 14:04

Definitely agree with garden centres. I could spend hours in one around Christmas. Not expensive like John Lewis either, most of our decorations are from garden centres. Beautiful traditional ones Flowers

Guineaguinea · 19/11/2021 14:22

The red Cross have some lovely ones available online

I thought it was about those poo baubles people leave hanging from trees and railings after they have scooped their dogs poos up.

Sd352 · 19/11/2021 15:54

Liberty has some beautiful ones among the kitsch (personally love a bit of kitsch though).

Wedgwood are stunning but £££££

Allsorts1 · 19/11/2021 15:56

Definitely have a look on Etsy - that’s my new fav place for anything! These aren’t individual ones but lovely proper glass sets www.nkuku.com/collections/baubles

Sd352 · 19/11/2021 16:02

Also Etsy is always a pretty source if you have something particular in mind. I am rather partial to hand painted papier mache baubles from India.

I also just tried searching traditional glass Christmas baubles and thee seem to be lots of beautiful options.

Sorry @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles that wasn't where I was going with this thread, that being said I could save myself some cash and fashion some baubles from DDogs poo bags...would still look better than festive bollocks!

@Talipesmum why is the fish's head in a gingerbread house?! Like that makes it festive and less bizarre!

I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of finding wonderful things at the garden center, it better live up to expectations!
