Shit baubles

Every year when the DC were little we would choose a few new baubles/tree decorations for our trees. It was a little tradition we had and there always seem such a wide selection to choose from.

Trying to find nice baubles now seems to be an impossible task, I don't want badly glued glittery rubbish and I certainly don't want baubles in the shape of sushi, balloon animals or bloody tacos that seem to be so popular in John Lewis currently.

Anyone got any recommendations for lovely baubles, we have a traditional green tree with red, green and white decorations a green tree with blue, silver and white decorations.

Have tried just about everywhere I can think of online and the high street.

Our local garden centre has the best (vast) selection of baubles I have seen anywhere. All in themed areas.

Scarby9 · 19/11/2021 01:03

Or, as others have said, German glass.

I’m with you OP. See exhibit A, nothing screams Christmas more than a glittery green snail 🙄

I have bought some lovely baubles from the Gisela Graham range before, definitely worth a look.

Here - bit expensive but I believe money goes to the Chelsea pensioners - I do realise it is expensive of r baubles shop.chelsea-pensioners.co.uk/products/nativity-set-tree-decoration?variant=30194301508

NotMyCat · 19/11/2021 04:18

Ooh some of these are lovely and not expensive! Scandi style

Definitely try Garden Centres, some of them have fabulous Christmas displays.

I have given the DC their own miniature tree each and each year they choose a new decoration to go on it, so they can fill their own trees with glittery doughnuts and sloths and mine is left alone!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 19/11/2021 05:40

Are you free next weekend for Ideal Home Christmas? You will find loads there.

If you are South London a drive down the A3 to Keydell Nurseries, Horndean might be required?

These are totally impractical 'day out' solutions...sorry!

Hairwizard · 19/11/2021 08:24

Another vote for garden centres. Our local one has some gorgeous christmas decs. Ive deliberately stayed away as id spend a fkn fortune in there lol.

Marmite27 · 19/11/2021 08:28

All ours are from Newbridge Silverware.

They’re beautiful, they’re not cheap though! But there are some that are at the cheaper end of the spectrum (but don’t ‘look’ cheap).

They ship to the UK.

CSJobseeker · 19/11/2021 08:29

Do you live near Tebay? They have some nice ones.

CSJobseeker · 19/11/2021 08:32

Ah, just saw you're in London. Tebay won't work!

gerispringer · 19/11/2021 08:33

I bought some nice ones from Ikea a few years ago.
RHS shop has some amazing ones not sure if they are online.

Pbbananabagel · 19/11/2021 08:36

OP I’m so with you, what I hate even more is when friends/family decide to give tree decorations as presents…. No thank you I don’t want a Christmas llama on my tree OR a personalised ornament not of my choosing for every damn family milestone…

AutumnAlmanack · 19/11/2021 08:40

Some ideas:-

Balsam Hill (but v expensive)
Sarah Raven
RHS Christmas shop
Next

and yes to Garden Centres!

thisplaceisweird · 19/11/2021 08:44

In previous years I've got lovely ones from Maisons du monde and Zara home

JohnStonesMissus · 19/11/2021 09:22

I've seen some hideous baubles, one was in the shape of a willy and the other one in the shape of breasts, I'm not particularly religious but they have no place at Christmas, they were really really tacky, why would you want a man's dick hanging off your Christmas tree? Yuck..

LanaDelBoy · 19/11/2021 09:28

Totally agree OP, i could've written your OP! I have some beautiful ones with leaves all over etc from years and years ago. The fancy shops all have the wacky novelty shapes - it's hard to find beautiful ones in real shops (bit nervous of ordering something so fragile online plus going to the shop to buy it is part of the tradition).

Garden centres have been best imo.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 19/11/2021 09:55

Right DH is taking me to a garden center next week. I have just booked tickets for the Ideal Home Christmas Show - didn't even know that was a thing.

My work currently has a tech incident meaning I can't work so am going to look at all the other places mentioned this morning!

And dick decs...just no!

JohnStonesMissus · 19/11/2021 09:59

Actually there was a post about about dick and nipple decorations on here the other day, pics were posted too, I like a laugh but I hate vulgarity especially at Christmas...

linerforlife · 19/11/2021 10:01

I have just bought some beautiful baubles from Harrods, blue with hand painted birds on - they're gorgeous

shouldistop · 19/11/2021 10:02

Have you tried a garden centre like dobbies?

Rememberallball · 19/11/2021 10:10

We’ve had some lovely decorations/baubles from Squires Garden Centres about 3 years ago; depending on where in London you are there may be some near you.

We’ve also bought lovely glass baubles from this company - but only in their shores in Bruges; they may deliver to the U.K. but I’m not sure.

Lastly, there is a christmas shop at Hays Galleria

PooWillyNameChange · 19/11/2021 10:17

Our favourite ones have always been from German/polish Christmas markets ...traditionally painted. And I have a lovely one from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Might be worth a look in some of the museum gift shops!;

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 19/11/2021 10:28

Garden centres, national trust shops or craft fairs. My favourite Christmas decorations are handmade ones from art and craft markets plus you are supporting small businesses.
