Just that really. She is a brilliant, no brands, no needy child. Never given a list ever. Never asks for anything. She has a phone, Chromebook, everything she needs for dance hobby, diffuser, beautiful bedroom. Her birthday was a few weeks ago and totally clueless I ended up taking her away in a hotel for a spa. She loved it but I feel another experience is missing the mark a bit. Much younger brother so tree will be piled up for him. Oh and she has an Oodie (last year's thread save!). Any inspiration out there?

Does she like to read? Would a kindle work?

Opal8 · 17/11/2021 08:01

Art supplies?
Amazon echo?
Books?
Personalised bracelet? (Etsy)
New trendy school bag?
Food treat hamper?

Personally I love experiences over things

Maybe a book a long weekend away next spring/summer and give her a voucher to "redeem" it?

ghislaine · 17/11/2021 08:04

Book subscription from Hatchards
Magazine subscription
Tickets to show featuring her dance genre (I know you said no more experiences but…)

AirPods
Converse
Shein voucher
Salt lamp
Phone power bank

I know she’s not into brands- but a nice leather handbag would be a good gift? Kate Spade have some nice crossbody bags that would be good for that age. If she’s 16 I’ll imagine she’ll start going out with friends more soon- so it would be nice to have a bag to keep phone, keys, etc.

This is in the sale- I like the print. Keeps it quite young?

I think you must be rich, that seems like such a lot. I couldn't afford to buy a third of that.
These threads make me feel rubbish, I must say.

@StillIncredulous no reason to feel bad everyone's situation is different. I'm sure your dd will love the gifts you get her.

StillIncredulous · 17/11/2021 08:50

I have to work really hard on remembering that I believe and wish to bring my children up similarly, that the acquisition of "things" is not an aim, they can all be stripped away in an instant.
But I understand why parents feel under pressure to provide them, and children feel entitled to receive.
I wish society measured success more obviously in the internal things like contentment rather than external trainers & electricals.
Whilst I don't wish to be either parent in 'About A Boy' it's difficult to hold the line in the middle, isn't it?
Also, it's interesting watching so many parents treat their daughters especially as mini adults with the type of gifts they give.

19lottie82 · 17/11/2021 08:55

Have you asked her?

I’ve got 2 teen DSDs and would never buy them anything of value without being sure that they’d like it.

Femwitch · 17/11/2021 09:04

Bamboo bed sheets? They are gorgeous and soft.
Beanbag (old school!)
Alexa or similar
Bubble tea making kit
Subscription box for essential oil blends
Mason Pearson hairbrush?

alrightfella · 17/11/2021 09:05

@StillIncredulous I like experiences and memories far more than actual stuff.

I often tend to buy my childrens presents along these lines too. Theatre or cinema tickets, high ropes courses, exhibitions, go karting sessions, escape rooms etc.

alrightfella · 17/11/2021 09:06

@user1466167893 AirPods? My dc live in them

Why? As much as it might feel like it when you read all this nonsense, it's not about giving 'things'. If your daughter is loved she will grow up happier than if she just had lots of things.
