Standing in for @Reastie as thread 10 was filling up quickly...

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link or the last word next to the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

Some top tips from thelegohooverer:

My tips are:
check out companies on trustpilot before ordering
be wary of companies that only have email/contact firms for customer services and no phone numbers or addresses (unless of course you enjoy meaningless replies from bots)
keep a list of what you’ve ordered so you can follow up if something doesn’t arrive. Sometimes it’s a numbers game where they’re betting on people not following up on missing orders.
check where things are shipped from, particularly if you need them quickly. I’ve got caught out waiting for the slow boat from China when I thought I was ordering locally.
I’ve started using Revolut to avoid putting in my main bank details (and it helps me budget)

Aliexpress have lots of stuff very cheap, order early as it’s all delivered from Chinahere. Be aware some items are a bit knock off in quality and safety, check reviews and be aware. Clothes can come up v small and take the photos with a pinch of salt as a guide for what you will receive.

I've been buying bits for my girls from jurrasic Jim and I'm wanting to buy them wooden treasure boxes to keep everything in

I'm not sure how big they'll need to be as I'll need to wait on the delivery to remind me what I've ordered (🤦🏻‍♀️) but has anyone bought anything similar in the past and can recommend a seller?

Thank you so much for this, I'd been waiting for it to drop after I missed the bargain £5 one!

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/10/2021 16:07

The Nails Inc website has quite a lot of gift sets and other bits in their sale. I’ve ordered things for teenage dn in the past and they’ve always gone down well.

Adult cracker fillings could be truffles, smellies or alcohol miniatures?

VeruccaSalty · 12/10/2021 16:20

I do homemade crackers and always bought Green & Blacks mini chocolate bars and booze miniatures. Last year I also got multi-tool keyrings that were ended up being too big to go inside and so I did a lucky dip as well where some of the crackers had numbers inside which matched presents in a box, which was great except the people who didnt get a number were disappointed. So this year it's all lucky dip. I got lots of good stuff on the Rex London sale, so thanks to whoever posted that!

Continuing the Primark Oodies quest - really struggled to find them in Nottingham. Only found Minnie Mouse and the pink one.
Then I went in Next and they had the camo one of theirs.
I'm giving up on Primark as I can't keep nipping in and ordering the Next ones, delivery says 2-3 weeks but that's fine.

Dolphintrainer · 12/10/2021 16:28

@GirlWithTheYellowHat How about getting mdf ones from Hobbycraft/eBay along with acrylic pens or paint for them to decorate their own treasure boxes? Could be another Christmas present to keep them occupied too!

VeruccaSalty · 12/10/2021 16:29

Other things I have put in crackers include: mini torches, nail clippers, tweezers, lego minifigures, coffee gift card, snap bracelets.

VeruccaSalty · 12/10/2021 16:31

Also rubbers and mini highlights and other stationary. Rex London have a mini sewing kit for 19p.

sewing kit

I just try to avoid buying anything I think will end up in the bin.

I've never done stockings for me DH or the kids. Maybe because my parents didn't?

What do you put in them?

Puffalicious · 12/10/2021 16:46

DH and I do each other's stockings- whatever gifts can fit in, really e.g perfume/ skin care (he loves a bit of grooming!)/ chocs/ gift card for fave shop/ card game/ keyring/ a tshirt rolled up/ undies/ new phone cover/ socks/ car freshener/ funky face mask/ hand cream/ mini candle/ room spray he knows I like/ bamboo toothbrush/ lip balm...

Puffalicious · 12/10/2021 16:48

Oh, and always a 50p and a satsuma at the bottom!

Plus maybe another couple of things I know they will like.

doctorboo · 12/10/2021 17:12

Thank you so so much for the Fiorelli link and 20% off code (EXTRA) - what a find!!
I now have my birthday present ordered and ‘only’ spent £32 instead of £41 for a bag and new purse.

Currently waiting for DH to get home so we can discuss the Luigi Lego set as it’s on all three of my boys Christmas lists…which until 10 mins ago were all sorted/finished/wrapped but I know they’d be overjoyed.

Has anyone seen the peppa pig wooden doll house for cheaper than £80 anywhere?

EvilHerbivore · 12/10/2021 17:22

Is there any pre-teen boy toiletries kits that anyone knows of that aren't the dreaded Lynx? Or do I just have to accept my house will smell of sweat and Lynx Africa for the next decade?!

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 12/10/2021 17:34

For the fill your own crackers or stockings ....I noticed that the Sainsburys I popped into earlier had quite a range of alcohol miniatures , some of which were reduced, including quite a few fancy and flavoured gins.

They only caught my eye because 2 years ago I desperately wanted a miniature flavoured gin to go with a present and couldn't find one anywhere.

Boots have Superdry and Jack Wills sets in the 3 for 2, might those work??
Minionbums · 12/10/2021 17:49

@RevolvingPivot generally it’s little things you wouldn’t wrap - a pencil from Smiggle, a bath bomb, a nail varnish - plus chocolate coins. Traditional to put a real coin and a satsuma in, or some nuts! My DH will get a bottle of cider, some nice chocolate, that sort of thing. I’m doing one for my dad this year with his favourite chocolates and some scratch cards. It’s just little treats, and it’s not of my favourite traditions.
