What’s everyone getting for their teenage boys? I won’t put an age on it as I need any and all ideas! Anyone have any ideas that aren’t clothes/trainers?

@Saladovercrispsanyday that should have read kudd.ly it autocorrected!

Frankley · 23/09/2021 10:46

I gave my grandson a Young Driver experience last Christmas. Fortunately l had only given him a handwritten note promising it to him. He was not able to book it until September and then it was cancelled. Perhaps it depends on where you live? I am very disappointed as l hoped to do the same this year but it was a waste of time

MoMuntervary · 23/09/2021 11:54

Thanks @SolitaryTree. It is an expensive hobby. We've got nothing at the moment so need at least some stuff second hand to make it affordable. Local electronics shop is a good shout and sounds more reliable than e-bay!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 23/09/2021 12:41

@Saladovercrispsanyday, I’m quite tempted by the Dunelm ones. They’re cheap but great reviews. The reviews say they are not as thick as some of expensive ones but I don’t think he’d mind that tbh. I’m going to get one for my two girls too and put in the Xmas Eve box instead of the usual pjs! Yes, DS is probably too old for a Xmas Eve box but his sisters are younger (youngest is 3) and he would hate to miss out!!

For those with gaming teens, Ikea have a new range of gaming products. Doesn't consist of a huge amount, but they have CPU castors, chair, peg board with accessories for holding keyboards etc on.

Genius! My nearly 14 year old loves a meal deal above all else Grin

Luckily he's sporty and seems to get into a different new sport each year so there's always something to buy. This year it's NFL so a jersey will probably be his main present.

I'll also get one of those massive water bottles (1.5 or 2l) for training and he keeps nicking my foam roller so possibly one of those, or some massage balls. I'm thinking of one of these Discovery Boxes from the Perfume Society too, either to break up and use in a homemade advent calendar or just as a gift.

ear buds
portable charger
mini stainless steel cafetiere (good for frothing milk if they prefer hot choc)
good quality shower gel (Molton Brown or L'Occitane)
credit-card shaped multi tool
if they are at uni and cook, then some interesting spice mixes
if they are over 18, a rare whisky or gin miniature
Lamy pen
hand weights or resistance band
a few 'self care' things like interdental brushes, Berocca fizzy tablets, Vit D spray, First Defence etc that they are unlikely to buy themselves
some pick and mix Lindor truffles
good qualtiy fresh coffee, tea or herbal tea
new water bottle
new thermos mug
spork (spoon/knife/fork in one implement, in a case. Good if they like camping)
touch screen gloves
nicer-then-Lynx body spray (eg Socal by Hollister)
drumsticks, guitar picks, piano music notebooks
a book
silly stuff like false moustaches or finger disco lights or sparklers if they are old enough to appreciate it's not babyish just fun
hair styling wax/clay/gel

This thread has been great. For anyone who has picked up on a PP suggestion of a popcorn maker, I've just bought the joe & seph popcorn maker along with popcorn kernels, caramel sauce etc. directly from their website with the code getpoppin10 for 10% off.

@BonnesVacances would love to see a link for the weekend bags...

Crackery · 23/09/2021 23:15

@EvilPea could you share links of terrarium kit you recommend...

Billandben444 · 24/09/2021 06:31

Love all the above except socks - and novelty socks right at the bottom! Something an elderly aunt would buy a teen.

Got one for mine I recommend going properly high end. I got one of the school standard ones and it’s absolutely brilliant and will last for years

A tower fan, best present ever apparently.

alrightfella · 24/09/2021 08:23

@Saladovercrispsanyday can you post a link? Would rather get a freestanding one with adjustable height if possible.

alrightfella · 24/09/2021 08:26

@BonnesVacances that is a lovely bag but I must be honest I think my ds14 would be very disappointed with that as a present. Maybe he would need to be older.

Yes. I said upthread that it's a present I give to 17 year olds, as preparation for uni, trips away with mates etc.

@MoMuntervary DS has just ploughed all his savings into new parts for a gaming pc. It's a lot of money. He has largely bought from big suppliers (BOX, scan, amazon etc) as he wanted the warranties and guarantee they are genuine parts.
He did buy one thing (power supply I think) off Ebay, but it appears to be genuine. He is going to sell his previous PC when he's finished.
There must be lots of good value second hand parts available from people like him who are upgrading.
