I'm doing ours on 1st December as, even though it is a Wednesday, I randomly have a day off!

What about you?

As late as possible which will probably be between the 1st and 7th of Dec. Lol. I tend to take them down on the 2nd Jan.

If the dc were not fussed I would put them up about the 14th.

VestaTilley · 22/09/2021 22:13

About 18th Dec and not before. They stay up until Twelfth Night.

People who decorate in November need to have a word with themselves.

HereticFanjo · 22/09/2021 22:15

Sat 4th Dec! 🥳🥳🥳

Marmelace · 22/09/2021 22:15

@OwlInATowl

My youngest's birthday is the 4th December so we always do it on the 5th, after that. The 1st feels a little early to me for some reason
My eldest is the 3rd and we don't put anything for Christmas up till a few days after.
Stompythedinosaur · 22/09/2021 23:54

Early December here. I might get a few bits out of the loft on the 1st, but we'll do the tree the first December weekend.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/09/2021 04:16

Not before mid December. Real tree though, and it won’t come down until 6th Jan.
I put a small real tree outside the front door on the 1st Dec, though, and any cards arriving will be Blu-tacked to a painted surface.

lannistunut · 23/09/2021 04:19

We start decorating gradually from start of advent, but the 'tree' (it is not a regular tree) will be about a week before Christmas.

echt · 23/09/2021 04:21

Up on 24th December.

Taken down on 6th January 2022.

I'm old-school, me. At least regarding dates.

Idyllic · 23/09/2021 06:35

I'd put it up now but forcing myself to wait til early November. Can't wait!!

Squirrelblanket · 23/09/2021 07:02

We put ours up on Thanksgiving weekend. We're not American but love any excuse for a food-related celebration. Grin

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 23/09/2021 07:09

I'm another one like echt. Decorations up on the 24th December. We bring the tree inside in the morning, and we decorate it, and the house, in the evening. Take it down on the 6th Jan.

Piccalino3 · 23/09/2021 07:16

I've scheduled in a weekend for decorating on the 4th and 5th Dec. Always do it the first weekend in December as we have a real tree. It always takes longer than I anticipate but last year I learnt that we can go to the garden centre in the week and pick the tree so they can have it delivered before the weekend and it can do it's day rehydration outside before just bringing it in on Saturday morning. What a revelation and why didn't I think of that before?! We used to go and pick it on the Sat morning, then trips to being the kids back and then back to to get the tree etc which wasted most of Saturday. I also have learnt that I like to decorate most of the tree when the kids are in bed, my ornaments are safe and the kids wake up to a surprise the next morning. There's certainly enough excitement and things for them to decorate in the day.

DrunkenKoala · 23/09/2021 09:46

We decorate the living room the first weekend in Dec, we have a real tree. When the DC break up we’ll decorate the dining room. Everything comes down on either New Years Day or following day.

Evening of 20th December after my little boys birthday celebrations on the 20th x

Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 23/09/2021 13:36

11th or 12th December

CoralBells · 23/09/2021 14:15

1st weekend of December

RosesAndHellebores · 23/09/2021 14:20

18th December and just one tree this year as we are away 21-28th.

AndThenInTheEnd · 23/09/2021 14:23

Buy it on the 4th, soak overnight and up on the 5th!! Love that smell.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 23/09/2021 14:29

My youngest DS has his birthday mid November so will go up the week after. It’s been quite a good marker for me as I was getting earlier and earlier. Halloween was the earliest one year! Quite like having them up mid-late November. Especially as it takes a good week to get everything out and sorted

thelegohooverer · 23/09/2021 15:43

After Hallowe’en our house gets successively more cosy and wintry with fur throws, chunky wool blankets, candles, curtains drawn in the evenings and the lamps go on, we eat more stews and crumbles, etc.

Christmas decorations don’t make an appearance until December. The tree, advent calendars and Christmas jumpers come out first. Other decorations go up over the next few weeks and the house gets greener and greener.

We have a slow retreat afterwards. Ds has autism and doesn’t handle sudden changes well.

Because I’m a sahm, I’ll be taking advantage of the dc being at school and dh being at work to get the tree and lights up without drama on the 1st and then the dc can decorate it.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 23/09/2021 15:54

Mines done gradually. The decs come out as we pack away Halloween, after a few days acclimatising to the house (they are stored outside) I go through them and usually have the house done by the end of November. I’m looking at doing things slightly different this year by letting my DCs get more involved, I’m usually very controlling but have decided to let them do things more their way this year.

CraftyGin · 23/09/2021 15:58

After 20th December

samecrapdifferentname · 23/09/2021 15:59

Christmas Eve. Down 6th January.

mamatoTails · 23/09/2021 16:57

I've been thinking but not decided. Usually it's always the 1st or the closest weekend. But this year the 1st is a Wednesday and I'm away on the 2nd to Sunday 5th and not back until evening time so don't think we'd have anytime!
Considering the Sunday before for the inside Decorations and Tree, and maybe do the external lights one evening after I'm back.

Mumoblue · 23/09/2021 17:00

Probably on the 20th. Maybe after. My son will be almost 2 by then and I don’t fancy wrestling him away from the tree every five minutes- not to mention the cat launches herself at it every year.
