Lidl have stollen and lebkuchen in if want to get into the festive spirit right now. No mince pies yet though

@StopGoQuitStart @PinkDaydreams @Rockhopper81

Thank you thank you thank you for your Lego wisdom. I am really excited and so hope that DS takes to it! I'll get some base boards and keep an eye out for Lego city bargains.

@sorryiasked that made me properly chuckle GrinGrin

torthecatlady · 15/09/2021 12:44

@SpamIAm Thanks for the Rosa Parks book!

Riverhouse · 15/09/2021 12:58

@sittingonacornflake mine are older and don't play so much with lego now but I wish I'd got the toy Storage play mats when they were younger. They lie out flat to play on and then convert in to a bag when finished. That or teach them to play on a sheet. Mine were forever losing lego pieces. The bags are around £10 on amazon

Riverhouse · 15/09/2021 13:00

toy mat

5Minions2CallMyOwn · 15/09/2021 13:06

@Riverhouse Oh wow, game changer!!! Will be ordering, am forever stepping on it all over the house! Thank you!!!

Peabody25 · 15/09/2021 13:07

@sittingonacornflake it can be good to get some general bricks like these www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/lego-and-bricks/lego-classic/lego-10698-classic-large-creative-brick-box-set/p/141295 which also includes two vase plates. Your DS might be different but with mine when we got proper sets he'd build the set up then it'd just stay displayed and played with but not taken apart, and not played with for that long.

With the general bricks he tended to build and rebuild so much better value for money in the long run.

Buns are back at £3.08 on Amazon but won't be delivered until around 28th September

MarshmallowsOnToast · 15/09/2021 13:22

@Notlongnow1

Just been to m&s to buy biscuit tins. Love the musical gingerbread too. But my absolute favourite is the Halloween haunted house one 😍
I never knew the haunted house biscuit tins existed until your post. Popped to M&S at lunch and the shelves are empty 😭 boohooo 👻

Will keep trying!

Petal7 · 15/09/2021 13:24

Just back from the shops - happily found the Colin stirrers at M&S and the light up tea and biscuits tins. They also had bags of red and white Striped candy cane Colins!! So cute! They had gingerbread star biscuits with holes so you can hang them on your tree with icing to decorate them. Think they were £2. They also had lots of fun Halloween treats and crisps.

Then at B&M, I got the brownie skillet. They also had a birthday cake one. (Both £4) I got mini gingerbread houses (£1) and Christmas cones full of hot chocolate powder and marshmallows (£1.29) which I thought would all be perfect for the Christmas Eve box.

For those looking to bulk out pre teen/teen present piles, I got a big Jammie Dodger tin for my JD fiend (£4), a Slush Puppie freeze pop and blue raspberry syrup set (basically a lolly mould and syrup) for £2.99. They also had bigger SP sets. Also, I got a massive 250g tub of popcorn, which will look great wrapped. It was £1.79 and my DD will be delighted! It wasn't with the Christmas stuff.

And my fave find were Harry Potter Pez dispensers for £1! They had Harry, Hermione and Ron. So good for HP fans! They also had emoji ones and Minion ones.

Other big items were Pringles crackers and a massive long box of Oreos. All in B&M.

Finally I went to Hobbycraft and they had a cool looking colour in igloo for £12 (though aren't they white?!). They had a fab selection of Halloween stuff, but I got little papier mache Christmas tree boxes to decorate (£1 each) and a pack of 3 ceramic baubles to decorate for £3 and a cute hanging twig tree (£3 or £4).

Pure genius. Thank you.

@SpamIAm Thank you very much for the link to the Rosa Parks little people book.

Petal7 · 15/09/2021 13:32

B and M also had giant gummy frogs, snakes and spiders, which were perfect for Halloween, but other shapes too for stocking for £1 each.

That's good to know thank you! I did wonder whether the little sets would get broken down and played with again or if once they were built that was sort of it.

mumofpickles · 15/09/2021 13:36

I also use a baking tin or shallow box to empty the bags into, keeps all the bits in one place and they can easily look and find the bit they need, then the instructions and part built model can all go in the tin ready for the next time. Lego mad pair here!

SpamIAm · 15/09/2021 13:44

Thanks for the TU heads up! (Sorry can't remember who posted). Allllll the Disney fancy dress ordered for DD - if anyone is after any fancy dress, I would really recommend Sainsbury's, lovely quality even on the non-premium stuff.

Not the worlds greatest bargain (and I haven't done a price check) but this Playmobil astronaut and robot figure set is £4.99 I've bought it to go with the previous rocket and rover bargains.

M&S in Manchester City centre had loads of Colin stirrers on Monday, no light up tins though which is what I was after

Lolly12 · 15/09/2021 14:18

Quite a few on here with Lego presents. A suggestion for anyone who might want a project (!) and are likely to be buying lots of Lego over the years would be to consider making a Lego table. We did this a few years ago and it was a total godsend for keeping all the pieces tidy-ish. We used an Ikea Trofast which can sometimes be picked up on fb marketplace if lucky.

Stick some base plates on the top and then use the storage drawers for any selection of pieces.

CheshireChat · 15/09/2021 14:57

B&M also have Revolution makeup bundles which can be quite good.

Ihopeyoudance · 15/09/2021 15:12

@IggyAce I've got a few of the Jasmine Silk pillowcases from Amazon. Variety of colours but cotton (white) underside to stop it slipping off the bed. I like them and they are only about £13.99 each. I stick them in a normal wash and they seem to survive!
