Greetings folks, it’s that time again!

Starting a fresh for 2021, so if anyone has any specific links they’d like or think would be handy to add to the list for the next thread please do let me know.

Hope you’ve all had a better year so far than last year and here’s hoping things will be at a point for a more celebratory Christmas with friends and family (and lots of bargains) this year.

@doublemix - the Playmobil space rocket is back down to £25 on Amazon. Delivery between 1st and 14th Sept

LionMummyRoar · 13/08/2021 18:36

Thank you for the link @MrsCrimbo74.
Loved the Christmas dec's, and the shop had some lovely dinosaur wall decorations that I am seriously considering for DS. Just wondering where, on an already dinosaur filled wall, I could fit them! Grin

Maskedrevenger · 13/08/2021 18:49

Thank you @MrsCrimbo74 just ordered some of the decs and considering ordering some other pieces.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/08/2021 19:01

@Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting

What kind of advent calendars do 10 year olds+ like? DD says she's outgrown lego ones.
The Harry Potter funko pop one went down well last year.

This year I am trying this rock and fossil advent calendar.

I’ve ordered a few bits from

www.jasellhomeandgifts.co.uk/

There’s some really lovely gifts for adults on there, my favourites are the Wrendale Designs. I’ve bought all my clients the magnetic shopping lists. Arrived within 3 days and look lovely. Use code WELCOME10 for 10% off first order.

UrbanMage · 13/08/2021 19:29

Quick question about the ticket to ride games (sorry, I know some PPs have probably already posted) but Dd is 6. Would you get the 'first journey' junior version or just the ticket to Europe one?

DH and I are a fan of Risk and the like and want to try these ones with DD to help get her into strategy games, as she's always nosying at what we do.

Dolphintrainer · 13/08/2021 19:51

@UrbanMage I’d say at age 6 the First Journey version would be best. Wouldn’t totally rule out the full version if they’re particularly good at games, but I’d recommend the first journey for age 6. We still occasionally choose to play that version instead of the full version, even though our DD is 11 now.

yoshiblue · 13/08/2021 19:58

Have just ordered two of these Nerf Guns for my 8 year old (and his Dad!)

Having checked Camel Camel £10.49 is the lowest price and I've seen them in a couple of other places for £15 each including B&M.

Sleepdeprivedzombie · 13/08/2021 20:00

Thanks @Stompythedinosaur that advent is perfect

Thanks for the advice. I'd thought as much but thought I'd check before I begin scouting games shops.

yoshiblue · 13/08/2021 20:16

@UrbanMage apologies for more ideas but we've been getting into board games with our 7 year old.

I'd look at Forbidden Island, as it's a coop game where you play together against the game.

Zombie Kids is another quick/fun strategy game and it's a legacy game where you earn rewards and the game changes over time which is fun!

We have bought Ticket to Ride first joinery when he was 6, but I would say he's ready to move onto the main version at age nearly 8.

Definitely double check prices on Camel Camel, Zatu Games is also a fantastic independent site to buy games....can often be cheaper than Amazon too.

Oh, Quacks of Quedlinberg too - sorry I'll stop but all these are fab for 6-7 year olds

Smileatthesmallthings · 13/08/2021 20:21

Great to be back on this thread again, though it's making me realise how quickly the year is going! Wondering if anyone has recommendations for chapter books for a 4.5 year old. We've read all of the Faraway Tree books 4 times now, and just started the Wishing Chair, but I'd like to get him a little selection of new ones for Christmas. Thanks :)

I will definitely check those out. She would probably be better with a co-op as she can be a little cheat!

yoshiblue · 13/08/2021 20:27

@UrbanMage 🤣 It will give you a break from tears if she loses as you'll all lose!

That's definitely in the running for Christmas then!

No idea where she gets it from I have never thrown a chess board out of the window when DH thrashed me at it when we started dating...

Smileatthesmallthings · 13/08/2021 20:43

@yoshiblue I jumped on the board game recommendations and just bought Forbidden Island from Zatu games. They had a few orchard games in the sale section, and some Rory's story cube expansion packs that I got for stocking fillers so thank you!

Puffalicious · 13/08/2021 20:44

Smileatthesmallthings

The Snowman by Michael Morpugo is a must for Christmas.

His Pinnichio is also great.

frumpety · 13/08/2021 21:09

Does anyone have any experience with Brandalley ?

MerylSqueak · 13/08/2021 21:10

If anyone remembers my daughter who lost her charm bracelet on the last thread, she's about to be thrilled at the very exciting arrival of the replacement from @tellmedinosaurfacts. What a lovely thing to do Flowers

LionMummyRoar · 13/08/2021 21:27

@Smileatthesmallthings, I know there has some backlash re Roald Dahl, but my 4.5 year old (who also loves the faraway tree) loves Fantastic Mr Fox.

Namechangesagain · 13/08/2021 21:34

@frumpety its been around for years so is a legitimate website but postage can be expensive

toolazytothinkofausername · 13/08/2021 21:41

H&M has released lots of Harry Potter themed clothing. Free delivery if a member (free membership).

One example: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0978764001.html

pinknail · 13/08/2021 21:58

@MrsCrimbo74 thank you I've also ordered some little named stags!

11 for less than £10 inc postage Smile

ScarlettDarling · 13/08/2021 22:50

Saw these ‘Beauty and the Beast enchanted rose jewellery boxes’ in home bargains today. My dd would have loved this when she was little! Reduced to £5.99 from £19.99.
