Greetings folks, it’s that time again!

Starting a fresh for 2021, so if anyone has any specific links they’d like or think would be handy to add to the list for the next thread please do let me know.

Hope you’ve all had a better year so far than last year and here’s hoping things will be at a point for a more celebratory Christmas with friends and family (and lots of bargains) this year.

Thanks @sideorderofchips for the prequels and @Reastie for the first thread.

No bargains to add as yet but after some advice please!
How do you manage when one child has a pile of massive boxes and the elder ones doesn’t look as impressive?!
Dd1 is 8 and not really into toys any more but her sister is 4 and everything looks like a big present in massive packaging and I’m struggling how to manage dd1’s expectations when she sees her sisters bigger pile even though we’re spending roughly the same. I’ve started planting the seed already that her sisters presents come in big boxes and hers might be smaller but more expensive but don’t know if that’s enough.

noodledoodler · 04/08/2021 18:21

@TheGriffle I use big cardboard boxes, cover them in Christmas and cello wrap-bulk them out with smaller inner boxes to raise up the contents and make massive hampers out of small gifts, looks a lot better beside the big pile of younger DS gifts.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 04/08/2021 18:24

Whoop! Thanks for the thread!

I've bought my dad theatre tickets. Need an experience type gift for my mum for about £50. Any good deals around? She loves pottery and baking.

PatchworkElmer · 04/08/2021 18:29

Yay! Thanks Reastie!

I’ve risked the Lego Sports Car. Thank you @Shufflebumnessie. Hopefully the box will be in decent condition!

Christmas21 · 04/08/2021 18:46

The Joules outlet on ebay has some Christmas tops and PJs. I've got some for DD but can't decide if I should get myself matching ones....

FionnulaTheCooler · 04/08/2021 18:48

There's a few reduced bits in Aldi summer sale online, including a few Harry Potter bits and I'm sure I saw some Fortnite figures on there when I was browsing.

Sideorderofchips · 04/08/2021 18:51

salutes to Reastie and potters off to sleep

friskybivalves · 04/08/2021 18:55

Yayyyyy. I'm freezing cold and wearing last year's Oody from the Xmas threads. Hope to have something decent to contribute soon enough.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 04/08/2021 19:07

Meant to say, good deals in the tu sainsburys sale. I got 3 t shirts for £1.25 each for DS

stealthninjamum · 04/08/2021 19:32

Yay, it feels like the start of the Christmas season when reastie does the first thread! I’m sure I was on the first year’s under a different name.

I have just bought dd1 a minecraft t shirt from Marks £9.75 reduced from £14. It’s for boys but suitable for girls.

I also spotted cheap Harry Potter t shirts for £5 in store so probably online.

Reastie · 04/08/2021 19:33

@TheGriffle we had similar last year. We told dd (the older one) that as she got older presents seemed to look smaller in size but they were just as exciting inside and size wasn’t important. She actually was really mature about it. I did whale a few things in boxes to make them bigger and my tip is I bought a random cheap inflatable toy related to something she likes which looked huge and filled up a lot of space but was full of air and could be taken down for space later. It looked amazing wrapped up though!

Yay! Thanks @Reastie. I have started but defo behind this year so need to step up my game! Feeling all Christmassy today as my 4 year old asked for the Disney Christmas cd on the way home from nursery, so proud!

My contribution is reduced kids Harry Potter K Swiss trainers in Sports Direct. Only £22 if you want Slytherin!

MorbidMuch · 04/08/2021 19:34

@RainbowZebraWarrior

Checking in, as your thread must have sent a subconscious klaxon to my brain. I just picked my phone up and said to myself 'I wonder if Reastie has started the Christmas Bargain threads yet'

Nothing to add at the moment, but I'm starting my hunt as of now.

Snap! The thought popped into my head that it must be nearly time for Christmas bargains and here is the thread! Grin

You can get 15% off Christmas cards at the RSPB until early Sept from now. shopping.rspb.org.uk

Thanks @Reastie.

For all those wanting a fake OOdie for their kids, Amazon (I know I know…) had these on special buy earlier. I picked one up for my dino loving DD and as she is 6 and a wrecking machine I didn’t want to pay ££ for one. Not sure if all sold out as i bought one when insomnia hit at 3am.

fake oodie

Down from £45 to £20

But very very few left anywhere.

TwinsandTrifle · 04/08/2021 20:04

@TheGriffle we had this with DS. He got a phone and Disney tickets. So the phone went in a box, then wrapped, then a bigger box, then wrapped, etc until about 8 boxes in size so box by then was huge. He loved it, like a silly pass the parcel unwrapping. The tickets were in a massive box with Mickey helium balloons so when he opened, the balloons floated out and the tickets were in the bottom.

Could you do anything like this?

Gazelda · 04/08/2021 20:05

Perfect timing! I've just been pinged, so stuck at home for the next 10 days. I could get all of my online shopping done and dusted.

I haven't a clue what to get DD this year, she's 13 and a bit picky. I got a few L'Occitane sets in the sale for nieces. And some turtle dove cashmere gloves in their sale for mum and mum-in-law.

InDreamland · 04/08/2021 20:08

🎄🎅🎄
Looking forward to Xmas and reading this thread!

ByThePool2021 · 04/08/2021 20:13

Checking in for the Christmas bargains! It’s the thread that keeps me on mumsnet.
Last Christmas was the absolute worst as we were seriously ill with covid so at least anything is going to be an improvement. Trying to follow the 7 gift rule this year (want, need, wear, read, make, play and eat) so need to make a list soon of potential items. Also have 3 dc birthdays within 3 weeks of Christmas, then with stockings, advent and Christmas Eve boxes …. Lots to buy! Bring it on!!

polkadotpjs · 04/08/2021 20:23

How very exciting! I've seen lots of quirky stuff in the Rex sale which is nice

Doghairismyglitter · 04/08/2021 20:33

Checking in for the new thread! Was going to mention as PP did, Poundtoy if you use BOGOF code, half your basket becomes free, they’re great for stockings and have good deals on bigger stuff sometimes too.

woodwaj · 04/08/2021 20:56

Hi all. My Christmas shopping is well under way! Currently have a mario obsessed boy so keeping an eye out for bargains!

TheGriffle · 04/08/2021 21:02

Thanks for the ideas! She might be getting an Xbox so maybe disguising it in a huge box is the way to go along with a couple of other large but cheap things and keep talking to her about size and price of gifts. She’s quite sensitive so I don’t want her to feel disappointed on Christmas morning.
