Greetings folks, it’s that time again!

Starting a fresh for 2021, so if anyone has any specific links they’d like or think would be handy to add to the list for the next thread please do let me know.

Hope you’ve all had a better year so far than last year and here’s hoping things will be at a point for a more celebratory Christmas with friends and family (and lots of bargains) this year.

I'm after a nice chess set for a 7 year old if anyone spots one. Thank you.

Luxplus · 06/08/2021 18:58

@fantastaballs

I didn't even notice that my name was on there so thank you for reporting!

I've been following the prequel thread and have amassed a huge stash of presents this year. Very few of them are staying with me though as my sister and I make up hampers and donate them to local charity/schools. Give some to charities to take off etc We live in a very very poor area, with very high rates of unemployment. I spend £10-15 a week on bargains all year round and I love doing it.

What a lovely thing to do. The girls also choose toy gifts each year to donate and we make a parcel to a women refugee centre.
Scout2016 · 06/08/2021 19:06

@Methenyouplus4 earlier Jaques of London was recommended, they look to have some nice sets.

PinkDaydreams · 06/08/2021 19:08

@mogtheexcellent

For the toy doctors set if for your own kids i would buy the one with the most bits in. Then you can have a nice rest while being 'treated'. Dd was 6 before she realised doctors don't give foot massages Blush
Love this!!!

Have never paid attention before to discussion about them but might need a Lego advent calendar this year. Can anyone tell me roughly what price would be considered good or are they different prices from year to year? Is it just the one (looks like star wars this year) or is there a sort of feature one and others?

beccarooney · 06/08/2021 19:20

Lovely - thanks for the thread and all the recommendations. Will try to keep up this year :) tonight have bought resuable silicon cotton buds for dd (for makeup); cinnamon bun kits (of course!) and a hot choc maker. Looking please for any (non edible) recommendations for gifts for DS 18 years - anything that's a bit different. Also would like to make my own crackers this year - has anyone seen any nice kits around yet please? Might have gone into The Works today to buy blank cards for Christmas card making (£3 for 30 6x4 white cards) and come away with this bargainous mini Christmas Tree sewing kit for £1

@PinkDaydreams

Has anyone got any recommendations for a play doctor's set please? Not necessarily the cheapest but I want a good quality one for a nearly 4 year old please.
There's a Melissa and Doug Drs Kit in the Argos clearance sale. It's £19.50 but looks really nice. Has 25 pieces.
MrsPerfect12 · 06/08/2021 19:26

I've bought the cinnamon bun. Hoping for some different ideas and bargains.

MerylSqueak · 06/08/2021 19:36

Can anyone recommend a starter gel nails kit, please? I've got DD a lamp to do hers at home but have absolutely no idea what she needs to use it with. Blush

In last few years they have had: Lego city, Lego friends, Lego star wars and Lego Harry Potter. The non branded ones (city and lego friends) are usually around £20, and the branded ones (star wars and HP) are usually £25. There is a new Avengers one this year, which looks pretty cool, I guess it will be around £25.

I don't recall them that often being on special offer, but I think they have been in Argos 3 for 2 previously and IWOOT website has had deals on them before. Older ones can sometimes be found on Ebay for less as well.

furstivetreats · 06/08/2021 19:55

Thank you @ILoveGroot, that's really helpful.

torthecatlady · 06/08/2021 20:02

Hi all! Smile I can't believe it's this time already!

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 06/08/2021 20:02

@IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconuts

Hamley's has some Super Mario Lego sets 20% off, and it seems to stack with code CART10 to get an extra 10% off. Also works with their BOGOF section.
I was just about to post about this. When I went on the website, it looked like it was 20% off lots of other Lego stuff too.
PaddingtonPaddington · 06/08/2021 20:09

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

Morning all, just bought DS the scoobydoo playmobil mystery machine on Amazon for £35 down from £50. I also got a Super Mario Uno for £5.50 for his stocking
Thanks just got Harry Potter Uno for £5.90 for DD stocking
ILoveGroot · 06/08/2021 20:11

Joules have some christmas jumpers, family pyjamas and socks in their sale, a fair few sizes left.

torthecatlady · 06/08/2021 20:36

@ItsAllBlahBlahBlah Thanks for the Lego digger! Great little extra for my twin nephews birthday coming up Smile

Gazelda · 06/08/2021 20:42

@ILoveGroot my DH would die for an Avengers advent calendar! I got him a very disappointing Sherlock Holmes quiz one last year.

I've just looked, and they're being released on 1 sept. I suspect they'll go quickly and possibly won't be reduced at any point.

Thisisbatshit · 06/08/2021 21:05

@pinkdaydreams we got DD1 a "real" doctors kit. Ordered from ebay a real stethoscope, kidney tray, ear looker inner thingy (there is a proper word for this!), jars, bandages and things and a lovely time t keep them in with e medical logo on it. Dd2 was so jealous she asked for the same and we got her similar with a pulse ox monitor, miniature pet cones (for her teddies after surgery) those little pen lights. All pretty reasonably priced and they enjoy them. We took out any parts we thought they could do damage with. Also real bandages.

Nousernameforme · 06/08/2021 21:06

I havent rtft so sorry if it's a double but john lewis has loads of card/pocket type games and puzzles reduced to clear.

Raindancer411 · 06/08/2021 21:19

I am still waiting for my build a bear order to arrive...

Really struggling for ideas for my 9 year old for Xmas.

Methenyouplus4 · 06/08/2021 21:22

Thank you for chess suggestions, will check them both out.

MrsRhysand · 06/08/2021 21:30

@Doghairismyglitter I'll definitely keep an eye out for you for smart TV's - black friday had some really good TV savings last year so might be worth holding off a little while Smile

MrsRhysand · 06/08/2021 21:39

Skinnydip have so many pretty phone cases in their sale, along with airpod cases, makeup bags and other stocking filler items.

@Gazelda They look amazing, I've set a reminder on my calendar to try and get one Grin. I imagine people will be snapping them up to sell on Ebay!
