One of the towns was Bedford Falls (we live in the ordinary Bedford)

Spider web Christmas tree decorations are popular in Poland and in Ukraine. In Poland it's linked to the story of spiders weaving a blanket for the Baby Jesus in the manger, so spiders are a symbol of good luck at Christmastide.
Poland has some lovely Christmas traditions, strands of hay under the tablecloth during Christmas Eve dinner for example.

But I have no idea about the spiders webs. It’s no country I’ve ever been to so I’m going to guess Montenegro.

Ukraine main centre for lucky spiders’ webs, but also Germany and a Poland.

The last time I had a real Christmas tree about a thousand baby spiders emerged from it and bungeed up and down from the ceiling for bloody hours.

I swept them all up very gently but they did have to go outside into the garden.
