Here ye, here ye!

Day one of my Christmas Quiz Smile

All welcome, sadly no prizes - except a smug smile and a pat on your own back Grin

I'll post one question per day until Christmas Eve.

So, grab yourself a festive drink and snack of your choice and keep away from Google!

Bets of luck Xmas Smile

18b tamagochi maybe? I was in 6th form and was too old for that but had a Rubik's cube before that.

AdaColeman · 18/12/2020 13:07

I don't know the song, but was the toy a Transformer?

elQuintoConyo · 18/12/2020 21:40

InTheCludgie is right, Cabbage Patch doll Xmas Envy I wasn't a fan!

And TrickyD yes with Janice and Jen. I love that song. It's the first I put on when it's officially Christmas.

I've been wrapping today, feeling very excited!

A friends mum loves Cabbage Patch dolls, when her DD moved out she used her old room to display the collection. There were dozens of the things, including a tiny baby one which sat in its own car seat and which I found highly amusing

ScrambledSmegs · 19/12/2020 11:49

I would have been 8 during the Cabbage Patch doll mania. I don't know whether it was my perception, but it seemed to be mostly adults going nuts for it and no child I knew wanted one. Our main reaction to them was WTF Xmas Confused

Now, Garbage Pail Kids stickers were much more our thing!

elQuintoConyo · 19/12/2020 19:04

Yes, I was 9yo, I don't remember anyone having one.

Question 19:
The surname Chandler derives from the making of selling of what?

And as a bonus for my tardiness (this is becoming a habit!), a bonus question:

How did Good King Wenceslas like his pizzas? Xmas Wink

¡Buenos dias Christmas amigos!

A doozy of a question today Xmas Grin

Question *20:

What modern tradition was accidentally started by an advertisement for Sears department store in Colorado in 1955?

*How the frack did it get to be 20th? Xmas Shock

I send Spanish solidarity hugs to those in the UK, having Christmas family festivities cancelled

LunaNorth · 20/12/2020 09:53

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?

elQuintoConyo · 20/12/2020 10:00

Hi LunaNirth nearly, but not quite.

Robert L May write the story for Rudolph in 1939 for a department store called Montgomery Ward.

NORAD’s Santa Tracker?

Feliz Navidad, Quinto.

InTheCludgie · 20/12/2020 10:03

Don't have a clue but am looking forward to hearing the answer, sounds interesting Xmas Smile

ScrambledSmegs · 20/12/2020 10:05

NORAD! Googled that a few years ago when I was following the sleigh on my old desktop.

ScrambledSmegs · 20/12/2020 10:06

My goodness, TrickyD is quick! Think you should rename yourself MrChristmas!

elQuintoConyo · 20/12/2020 21:21

Yes, NORAD!

We were watching the 1983 classic War Games with Mathew Broderick yesterday, set in Cheyenne Mountain Colorado, and at NORAD, so I idly googled... And lo, there came question 20 Xmas Grin

As an aside, for any doubters of whether Die Hard is a Christmas film....

according to the director it is

Shoot the glass!

OP posts:
InTheCludgie · 20/12/2020 21:50

Thanks for that link elQuintoCoyote - a recent thread was quoting Bruce Willis as saying Die Hard isn't a Christmas film but I'd think the Director has the final say on that one!

elQuintoConyo · 20/12/2020 22:18

My other favourite non-Christmas Christmas film is Trading Places! Dan Akroyd dresses as FC for an office party and tries to eat a whole salmon through his beard Xmas Grin

OP posts:
elQuintoConyo · 21/12/2020 08:08

It's the final countdown! Just five questions left!

Question 22:

In the children's Christmas favourite Jingle Bells, who is "seated at my side"?

For an extra elf point:
"Nadolig Llawen" means Merry Christmas in which Western European language? Xmas Wink

OP posts:
TrickyD · 21/12/2020 08:17
