Thank you! ☺️ Here’s some more of today’s hygge...three candles lit for the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Hope you’re all having a lovely day.

I don’t remember if I’ve posted a photo of the tree yet?

It’s our faux one as I got impatient to have a tree at the end of Nov. I’m planning to get a real one for the dining room later on in the month.

That's beautiful, well done.
HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 14/12/2020 13:27

Beautiful! I’ve not yet decided whether I’m going to buy one or do my own...

I’ve got a pinecone wreath on the kitchen door which I still need to add to, but don’t quite know what I want to do yet. Probably will just add some greenery to ponce it up a bit on Christmas Day ahead of guests arriving. I also dried some oranges with cloves the other day which I will either add to the kitchen wreath as well or to the front door wreath.

I had a go at a wreath today. Not as hard as I thought but definitely would have been easier if I'd been able to get some florists wire!

Feeling super poncy today as I got up early and made a ginger cake and some more chilli jam (something happened to the last lot- the perils of poncing in September 😂)

On that note I think I may need to make some more gingerbread gin as well

I'm really liking the wreaths! I wonder if I could jazz up the old one for the door, next year, with new bits and pieces 🤔

Not much going on here this week; Christmas week at school is always a bit of a rush week. I've almost finished the second stocking though, just the cuff to attach and either pompoms or tassles to make.

That was tonight's job but I've just spent the past 2 hours with dd2, watching her mantis moult. Fascinating to watch, but very strange at the same time!

TrickyD · 16/12/2020 11:31

My ‘Harry Potter’ candles have arrived! They are excellent, thanks for mentioning them, Trumpton
We have some plant wires crossing the ceiling in the conservatory and will hang them from those.

FestiveFannyGallops · 16/12/2020 14:40

My narcissi are no where near ready Sad

Poster who did gingerbread decorations for the tree: were they to decorate and then eat or just to decorate? Ds has just asked me but I'm guessing once they are on the tree then they are just for decoration only.

lucysmam · 16/12/2020 14:46

Stockings are finished! I'm really chuffed with them.

I did measure them against their old ones that are currently hanging though & they're quite a bit smaller, so now have everything crossed that their fillers fit!

FestiveFannyGallops, make some for the tree and some for eating! I'm not sure I'd be keen on eating them once they'd hung on the tree a while.

Lucysmam, you have done a brilliant job with the stockings and should be very proud. I like the tassels, definitely more elegant than bobbles would have been.

FestiveFannyGallops and Lucysmam, we are obviously less squeamish and harder stomached than you, as we happily ate last year’s gingerbread decorations after their stint on the tree. Not particularly dusty but perfectly delicious.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 16/12/2020 15:33

Hello! I dipped into the last thread, I see things have moved on to wreaths, which is good because i made ours today...

@FestiveFannyGallops

If you move your narcissi into a warm room they should romp away !
Can you post a photo for me ?

If they don’t make it for Christmas then maybe they will be something to look forward to in the dark New Year days !

FestiveFannyGallops · 16/12/2020 18:13

@Trumpton Sad they've been inside for weeks now

Poncetastic Mark 2
FestiveFannyGallops · 16/12/2020 18:17

I've got some in pots outside in compost too that are similar in how far along they are.

Trumpton · 16/12/2020 18:30

Oh poor little scraps . They do look sad .
@FestiveFannyGallops.
No . I have no bright ideas . Were they Paperwhites ?

OP posts:
Trumpton · 16/12/2020 18:31

What are their roots like ?

OP posts:
FestiveFannyGallops · 16/12/2020 18:34

Regular narcissi. They have fantastic roots! I'm going to see if I can find any in bloom locally.

Trumpton · 17/12/2020 02:54

@FestiveFannyGallops

Ah , middle of the night musings .
Were the Paperwhite narcissi as they are the type that don’t need a pre-chill period. Regular narcissi do.

“ All varieties of ‘Paper White’ daffodils are suitable for forcing and most have a delightfully strong scent, which is fantastic indoors. Look for the ‘Avalanche’ cultivar for a Three Kings golden centre that contrasts with a ring of shepherd’s sheep white petals”

FestiveFannyGallops · 17/12/2020 14:16

I've just bought these in the hopes of at least one flowering by Christmas Day.

Poncetastic Mark 2
Trumpton · 17/12/2020 21:54

Ah they look ready to “Gallop” away !

OP posts:
FestiveFannyGallops · 17/12/2020 22:01

Just one bloom, just one, is all I need for Christmas Day. I've bought a bunch of daffodils too just in case. Covering all my bases. I've not got round to the gingerbread tree decorations yet but definitely this weekend.

FestiveFannyGallops · 18/12/2020 15:05

One is almost out! I've popped them outside so they don't get carried away with themselves.
The gingerbread decorations are cooling ready for decorating. And there's more for eating Grin

Trumpton · 19/12/2020 06:20

I need to make the mini houses to go on the children’s hot chocolate on Christmas morning . I could make the pieces now and assemble them nearer the day . They will need to be quality checked by me of course.
I made whiskey cream like Baileys the other day, my drinks area is looking good with Blackberry Brandy, Raspberry Gin, Marmalade Gin and now the “Baileys”.
Flanked by the M&S Snowglobe Gin we are looking mighty fine !

lucysmam · 19/12/2020 09:46

We're baking, and hopefully building, our gingerbread house today. I'm trying out a recipe that was posted on here, and experimenting with caramel to glue together, so it may all go wrong 🤷‍♀️ we'll see!
