Yes indeed. In fact, this dreadful oven broke down on Christmas Day itself about 5 years ago, but luckily when almost everything was done. The roast potatoes took ages to finish cooking in the residual heat and weren’t quite as crispy as I’d have liked but we got very a little merry while we waited and nobody really cared!

Timing is everything.... Smile

I've received my fab new tablecloth/runner and napkins for Christmas Day dinner! So I started playing around with some ideas for the table settings....I think I'm going to do these little Christmas trees with the napkins! So easy to do as well - my daughter (5 today!) has learnt how to do them too!

Thank you all.💐

It was completely out of the blue in that he’s never had any issues before, up until about a month ago when we were walking up a very big hill and he’d had some pain and breathlessness then too, but we just thought maybe he’d got a bit out of shape with lockdown...then over the past several weeks he had a few instances of feeling like his chest was a bit heavy but we thought maybe he had contracted Covid, not likely tbh, or another flu/cold.

So when we went out for a very gentle walk on Sunday evening and he had the most horrendous pain before we’d even reached the end of our street, I knew something was wrong.

I’m sorry I’m terrible with names and always forget by the time I’m halfway through a comment, but that fabric calendar is just beautiful! And the ponced up present is perfectly divine!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 01/12/2020 13:00

Oh and the runner/napkins are very nice!

This year I’m using paper napkins and doing them the way my grandmother used to do it (it was my job to do the napkins when we visited for Christmas dinner). I’m obviously even more sentimental about Christmases past this year than I usually am...not surprising really!

I've spent the better part of the afternoon watching Elf with dd2 & slowly putting this together for her class TA. Just hope she gets to give it to her!

I love your crochet items! So lovely.
lucysmam · 01/12/2020 15:27

@niki26 any chance of a "how to" for the napkins? I discovered some throw away ones in one of many stash boxes so we'll use those this year I think.

lucysmam · 01/12/2020 15:52

I can't decide if this looks daft; dd2 has gone up to talk at to dd1, so I've had half an hour's peace. It did come with ribbon but I couldn't be bothered to tie it all together Blush

Holly, here are the lights wound into the swag. The ones in the middle need adjusting as they don’t show up. I think we also need to organise the trailing wires or set to with a crochet hook.
Lucysmam, great crochet activity from you, Really clever. What are you going to do with the numbers and sleigh? Are they for Christmas bunting?

They're an advent calendar (they're all open to hold something). I sort of ran out of steam after I'd got it all out so it's just sat there atm.

Sorry to hear about your dh @HollyandIvyandallthingsYule It’s a huge fear of mine that dh would be too stubborn to call an ambulance and I wouldn’t realise it was serious enough to over rule him. Well done you! Scary that he’s so young.

Tree went up this evening. I used to pad out our special decorations with generic ones but I realised that we have enough special ones to cover the tree and it’s much nicer.

I picked up a gorgeous duvet set in the BF sales and I’m going to make a tablecloth and contrasting napkins/runner/placemats (haven’t decided yet) just for ordinary December days. I also got a fabric delivery to make a runner for our North Pole breakfast table. The fabrics aren’t quite as good a match as I thought when I was squinting at the screen so rather than sewing it I might just cut it with the pinking scissors for this year and hold out for a better match next year.

Here's my IKEA £19 'old fashioned' Christmas tree! And 2 vintage baubles from my mum's 1930s childhood. Really pleased with the whole look.

Boholady your tree looks lovely 🎄

I've definitely given up on my papercut cards idea; far too fiddly & my hands aren't steady enough.

I think we'll put some star lights in the window today, and the wreath on the door. Then the decoration boxes can go away for the moment. I might message my friend & ask if she'll pick me up some star/snowflake window clings from work & pop them through the letterbox, to go on the window too.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 02/12/2020 23:49

What a lovely tree, boho! I love it.

lego it’s been a scary few days Sad thankfully it looks like he’s going to be okay. He’s had a complex procedure on his heart this morning, and is still in hospital. He’s absolutely exhausted, as expected.

Tricky I love that.

I’ve not done anything at all today, except a little bit of tidying up/cleaning. Tomorrow I’m going to put up the outdoor lights.

Canklesforankles · 03/12/2020 08:05

Holly that’s good news. Hope he’s home soon.

lucysmam · 03/12/2020 08:44

Wishing your dh a speedy recovery HollyandIvy. Hopefully he will be home soon.

Made a batch of hot chocolate bombs yesterday, unfortunately they went straight into the DC before I could get a photo. I'm thinking of making some more as gifts, but I'm wondering how to package them. Ideally I'd like something eco friendly...

Canklesforankles · 03/12/2020 10:20

What size are they rugs? Would an egg box work?

RugsEverywhere · 03/12/2020 13:02

Too big for an egg box- I used a Lakeland teacake mould, probably about 3 inches across

MissEWeatherwax · 03/12/2020 14:00

Were they difficult to make? I need some Christmas spirit feeling very flat.
Watched some YouTuber making them, looked easy. But I think might be harder than it looks.
Could you wrap in cellophane and pack with loads of shredded paper and use smallest box have.

RugsEverywhere · 03/12/2020 17:57

They were OK to make. They needed a light touch removing from the mould. I think it helped I made them quite thick, about 40g choc per bomb

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 03/12/2020 20:00

He’s home.😊😊And all will be well, fingers crossed.

Canklesforankles · 03/12/2020 20:46

That’s great Holly. Enjoy some quiet pottering together (and poncing)

goose1964 · 03/12/2020 22:06

Holly, something similar happened to DH, they found he had a congenital heart abnormality , he's on meds and fine.
In other news,I made bagel chips as DH had bought me enough bagels to keep me too Christmas. Mine were ready cut but if they weren't start by cutting in half, brush with olive oil and cut each half into 8 then sprinkle with flavourings, I used Italian herbs and ras al hanout. They need more favouring than you'd think. cook at about 120°C for half an hour.

TrickyD · 04/12/2020 00:01

Wonderful news Holly. Time for lots of gentle therapeutic poncing.
