I put mine up on Monday. Nothing to look forward to this year so why the hell not Confused mother thinks I've gone mad because im usually the grinch who puts the tree up 12 days before the big day.

It's made me happy this week with its twinkle and sparkles Smile

Good for you @timothytoeseatenbyaghoul - if it makes you smile then I’m all for it!

Mine is going up on the 16th Nov and I can’t wait. Traditionally my mum and I go around our fabulous local garden centre and buy a few new bits then put our trees up. This year she’ll come to me (she’s widowed and in our support bubble) and we’ll spend the day unpacking my decs, listening to Michael Buble, drinking tea and eating mince pies. Different but still magical 😊

waltzingparrot · 05/11/2020 09:29

I've moved my orange tree 'up' off the floor for winter. To be honest I might just wrap some fairy light round this and shove a fairy on a stick in the pot.

Oops, pic didn't attach.

Haven't taken the Halloween decorations down yet. Far too early to think about Christmas ones

JustSaying101 · 05/11/2020 09:49

Too early for me to put the Christmas up personally. I usually plump for the first weekend of December. But, if it makes you happy having it up a bit earlier, why not!

CloudyVanilla · 05/11/2020 10:06

I saw my first Christmas tree of the year on 28th October! That's the earliest I've ever seen one Grin

I love Christmas at the best of times but this year I've absolutely loved planning it early and buying all new decorations for a new theme Halo

I do think I will be waiting but I don't wait long, we put them up in very early December and this year I'm determined to get everything up on 1st December along with the advent calendars :)

cushioncovers · 05/11/2020 10:07

Nope.

InDreamland · 05/11/2020 10:35

Good on you for doing something positive to lift the mood in this crazy year OP!

I love Christmas and always put the tree and decs up first weekend of December. I'll be sticking to my usual tradition as it gives me something to look forward to plus with an 8 month old who is very mobile and pulling herself up on everything I don't want to extend the time I'm going to need to be constantly watching her or guarding the tree to stop her trying to pull it down or pull off the decs.

Yesterday I popped into a card shop to buy Christmas cards just in case lockdown is extended to Christmas and they were playing Christmas songs in the shop. It was way too much for me hearing Christmas music in November and also felt really weird buying Christmas cards so early as normally I get them Mid-december.

Noitjustwontdo · 05/11/2020 11:19

No way. I get a real tree so it can’t go up till early December.

Snipples · 05/11/2020 11:36

Ours will be up for 1 December (we have a real one ordered and they're not due in from Canada until the end of November).

Do what makes you happy but it's a bit early for me.

Mytinyman · 05/11/2020 11:39

I picked up my decorations from my parents yesterday and now i have to convince my DP to put them up, im hoping for this weekend, id have done it in August if he let me Grin

Aebj · 05/11/2020 11:41

Both my boys are November babies. We celebrate their birthdays then on 1st December we put the tree up

LabradorGalore · 05/11/2020 11:45

I'm usually the person that scoffs at people who put their tree up early and I never put mine up before December starts.

But with lockdown and all the misery of this year I'm tempted to do it soon just to add some festivities and joy into the rest of the year/during lockdown.

I think I'll gauge how the kids feel about it and then put it up in a week or two. My mum will think I've taken leave of my sense when I tell her, but this has been the year for oddity so whats a bit more before its over.

timothytoeseatenbyaghoul · 05/11/2020 15:25

Aebj- I have two nov babies too. I'd never dream of putting it up before dec normally but never mind it's up, it looks smashing and I'm happy 😃

Good for you OP anything that brings joy at the moment is a good thing, we are usually 1 Dec, but maybe earlier this year.

CoolShoeshine · 06/11/2020 22:26

First Friday evening in December until just after New Year is our tradition. It seems like they are up for ages which makes the effort worthwhile but not too long that they become boring.

EloiseTheFirst · 06/11/2020 22:31

We normally do it 1st Dec but this year I've treated myself to a new Balsam Hill tree. I think I'm going to put it up as soon as it arrives 😊🎄

MeringueCloud · 06/11/2020 22:33

Anyone bought a cream egg yet?

TheFlis12345 · 06/11/2020 22:36

I am always very staunchly ‘nothing before December’, it’s bad luck. Even if we get our tree late November I won’t decorate until December 1st.

This year, all bets are off, I need some joy in this lockdown. Will probably go all out mid-Nov as we have a real tree and think any earlier would be pushing it to last through to the 12th night.

WanderlustWitch · 06/11/2020 22:49

We put ours up tonight. It looks ace Smile

Whoopsmahoot · 06/11/2020 22:51

Good god no. 🙄

justasking111 · 06/11/2020 22:52

We have permanent lights on our front gables. Our neighbour enjoys them, she asked OH if they could be switched on at night to cheer us all up. So we have.

Neighbours xmas tree is up but she is due to have a baby over xmas so probably a good idea to do it now just in case.

LadyofMisrule · 06/11/2020 23:16

still up from last year...

Vebrithien · 07/11/2020 05:16

Not yet. But soon Grin

2019 was spectacularly shit for us personally, and DH, who is normally a bit of a Grinch, let me put up decorations from mid-November, with the tree on the last weekend of November.

This year, we had the 'discussion' in October, and have decided that Christmas things should wait until after the 11th of November (or Remembrance Sunday, in years later than the 11th).

Am off on maternity this year, so I'm planning a Winter Clean, and then I'll get cracking. DD4 is super excited, and baby DS LOVES sparkly lights. They make me happy, and DH gets the benefit!
