Evening!

New thread here. Probably not needed until tomorrow, but it's ready and waiting.

Don't forget: Booths' Christmas ordering goes live tomorrow, so food porn will be online to view!

Boots, get your Cumberland PiB ordered!

Thank you for all the love for the gloves Xmas Smile Fingers crossed the recipient will love them (I made iron man ones for my nephew at the same age and he wore them constantly).
Next 2 projects are crochet ice creams for niece who's getting an ice cream parlour for Christmas and something, not sure what, for dsis.

marshmallow will you be able to see family at Christmas if you're shielding?

I desperately want to spend this year having dinner with my mum, dad, sister, nephews and niece. Lockdown has got to me because I usually have a chaotic visit but relish being at home for dinner (DH is a brilliant cook).

I'm 80% done for Christmas. I ordered loads of stuff over the weekend - just need to make a few things and come up with an idea for MIL.
DH only wants a new Apple Watch and I can't afford to buy him one. He has stocking fillers (bottle of whiskey, choc orange, hiking socks & boxers).
I want a new iPad too so we'll prob forgo buying proper presents and just treat ourselves from the joint account in the Boxing Day / new year sales (we share all money).

Have a bit of a week coming up. Dr couldn't be less interested in letting me have bloods etc done so I've given up on that for now. Only issue this weekend was it taking me 3 attempts to take 5 things upstairs because I kept forgetting some 🙄
Have plumber coming this afternoon, flu jab Thursday, dentist Friday to have filling replaced dreading that 😩

WreckTangled · 16/11/2020 12:42

That's annoying crazy I wonder if they'd be less reluctant if there wasn't Covid. Maybe they're trying to reduce people coming in. Sorry you have to go to the dentist Sad

MarshmallowManiac · 16/11/2020 14:18

I really don't know Crazy if the cases went down dramatically maybe, it would only be to see MIL not any others this Christmas just ourselves.

MarshmallowManiac · 16/11/2020 14:19

As she is in our support bubble.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/11/2020 14:56

MM would you be allowed to see your MiL anyway as she is in a support bubble with you already? My MIL is in a support bubble with one of my SILs and will be spending Christmas with her.

My sympathies Crazy. We usually have Christmas at home followed by a chaotic visit to the NW cramming in visits to as many people as possible between Christmas and New Year and a family party. It's the one thing that's going to be hard to miss. We haven't cancelled out Airbnb yet but I can't see mixing of households being allowed. Best of luck at the dentist.

This weekend coming marks a full year since I saw any of my siblings - we had Sunday lunch and visited the cemetery to put flowers on my mum and dad's grave to mark my mum's anniversary. We know how to celebrate 😥

Poor DD1 was so upset at the weekend. She's fine in herself but it seemed like all of her friends who live away chose this weekend to offload about how much they were missing their families and it really got her. I don't think the dark nights and busy days in school are helping her either.

In other news I now have 6 bottles of Bucks Fizz.

MarshmallowManiac · 16/11/2020 15:04

I would hope so Woolly because she is on her own and we would love to see her at Christmas. So sorry that it's been so long since you have seen your siblings, another thing I would love to do is visit my parents graves because it's been absolutely ages. So sorry for your DD1 it is really hard on the kids isn't it. Sad YAYY for fizz Gin

WreckTangled · 16/11/2020 15:05

Oh woolly that's horrible for you and your dd. I was lucky enough to see both my sisters in the summer. No idea what will happen this year.

I only got four bottles of the Buck's Fizz Grin

We've all been pretty snappy and grumpy at the weekends, ds is missing football and there's just nothing to do. Plus dh hasn't worked Saturdays for ages and we're not used to spending all weekend with him with nothing to do and he just gets in the way Grin tempted to take a dive this weekend just to find a Starbucks (15 miles for Starbucks is essential right?) after seeing their new ultimate hot chocolate. Dd hates being outside in the rain/cold so no point taking them for a walk and all the 'fun' places for walks are packed.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/11/2020 15:05

I feel under-stocked, Woolly! I wonder when the reduction ends?! Not that I need anymore alcohol; I have more than enough!

I was saying that to someone at work the other day; lockdown wasn't as hard (or didn't feel it) last time as it was nice weather. The dark, wet and cold does make it harder.

We've managed 3 trip to my parents this year, which is really about right to be honest. I've booked another fit Why's birthday, but I'm not sure it can happen. Why is in possession of her present and card though, thankfully.

Would be lovely if it did happen Fluffy. I kind of feel things will open up for a while just to give the economy a boost. Our illustrious leader was most disgruntled people started Christmas shopping the two days before lockdown when he wants them to shop in December.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/11/2020 15:32

We weren't exactly short of booze to start with 😂

FireflyGirl · 16/11/2020 15:35

Flowers Crazy, MM and everyone missing their family.

DH doesn't want us seeing DMIL in case DS catches coronavirus from school and passes it to her. I am seriously considering taking him out of school a week early, so we can quarantine for 2 weeks and he can spend Christmas with one of his grandparents at least.

DParents are in a bubble with DSis as they help with DN, and she (and DN and DBIL) will be moving in with them a couple of days before Christmas so she doesn't need to spend the Christmas/New Year season in hospital (pregnancy related, can't remember if I've bored you all with that story already). So, anyway, we won't be able to spend Christmas with my family other than possibly a brief, outside and socially distanced visit Sad

This will be the first year I haven't spent at least part of Christmas Day with them, ever, and DParents are missing their granddaughter's first Christmas Sad

DH is getting a travel mug with inbuilt coffee press (which I've already given him, to bolster him through the sleepless nights), the coffees off the bargain thread, and yard of Oreos, and then a stocking full of sweets, because all he wants is a new graphics card and it isn't available yet. Usually he buys anything he needs, so I don't stress about getting him presents, but I want DS & DD to get him something.

MarshmallowManiac · 16/11/2020 15:55

Thanks Firefly, hope you and your DS will get a chance to spend it with your DMIL at least, and maybe an outside, socially distanced meeting with your parents. Sending hugs. Smile

I've just received an M&S gift card and DD2 wants to spend it on more Bucks Fizz 😂

Pressed post too soon

There's a house round the corner with their Christmas lights up. DD2 spotted them while she was in my room helping me photograph my wrapping paper selection.

Countdown to Christmas 2020 (Thread 12): the one where all of the GHs have finally arrived!
NoWordForFluffy · 16/11/2020 18:52

Is that from John Lewis? We have some like that (might be M&S?).

There's a house on our road with lights up too!

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/11/2020 18:57

The plain red is JL

The beige/red berries is Dunelm

The white holly leaves is Asda from 2 years ago (bulk bought after Christmas 2018) Aldi are doing something similar this year so I may stock up again if I can hold out until it's reduced.

The red and white guitars was from eBay.

I have some other half rolls of stuff too but the ones in the photo are for the DC.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/11/2020 19:00

Oh, forgot to tell you all about my BONKERS dream last night!

I was in hospital as I was booked for an ELCS. Also in there having ELCSs were a few people I've known over the years from various jobs / locations.

A couple of midwives came to see me and told me I was next. They then disappeared and then I was just left there for hours on end, no ELCS, no contact, nothing.

It got to 4.30pm and I'd been nil by mouth since before midnight and hadn't had surgery or been put on a drip to keep hydrated. So I kept trying to call people without success to see what was happening.

I then went roaming round the hospital and found a woman from PALS who weirdly knew who I was, even though we'd never met. She told me that I needed to pay a top-up of £99.99 before I could have the ELCS. She claimed they'd been trying to ring me to take payment. Which they hadn't!

Also, DH and I hadn't even got any names considered for the baby either.

I woke up before I had the baby / got it resolved! 😂
