Thanks @Anydreamwilldo12 for thread title

please read the thread is moving so fast atm and it’s pretty hard to keep up! I was just wondering on people’s thoughts on this so did a super quick questionnaire here . I’m not sure we’ll find a perfect answer to suit everyone but would love your feedback on if it’s an issue or not.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

@TheGirlWhoLived

To add my ten pence worth, for me this thread is as much about bargains as it is about:

Ideas for presents for people

Which IRL shops have good stock

Happy feels - which is a big change from other MN boards

A sense of camaraderie, which I think is missing from the world at the moment

Knowing which bits you had completely forgotten about (teacher presents I’m looking at you)

Laughing until my tummy hurts at some typos, or the highland hamper situation, or poor ihopeyousteponalegopiece ‘s DH throwing all her Xmas presents out, or sideorderofchips having her gorgeous thread baby eons ago, or everyone ending up with Robert in various guises.

And so on and so forth. I’ve been around since day dot, and I don’t think things have changed for the worse, yes more chat goes on but only because the volume of people using the thread has increased massively.

Merry Christmas Bargainers

I totally agree with all the above, even tho i’m fairly new, i love all the chatter that cones with the bargains. So thank you everyone.

@TheGirlWhoLived I had forgotten all about @ihopeyousteponalegopiece ‘s presents going out in the rubbish

Glad the 6TN tshirt deal is useful!

I've been stalking this Melissa & Doug Suspend game for about 6 months and price has just dropped to £9.44 - lowest price in over 2 years according to CCC

Grin wasn’t even a DH. Was my own stupidity! It still annoys me several years later!
Glad I’m remembered for something! Grin

Reastie as always, you’re brilliant for doing these threads!
They absolutely wouldn’t be the same without a bit of chat and ideas throughout, they’re lovely to be a part of!
I’m moving to Denmark next week so won’t be taking part as much (delivery costs to DK would be as much as the savings!) but I’m enjoying reading them!

DumplingsAndStew · 30/09/2020 11:10

Just been to sainsburys and picked up a peppa pig magic crayola set for £1.80. They're £6.99 at smyths so a good deal for a stocking filler?

Dovesandkisses · 30/09/2020 11:20

@allhallowseve do you have the link please? I did try and search via safari but no luck. Thanks

mumontherun14 · 30/09/2020 11:21

Picked up these in Home Bargains today.A mix of hot chocolate flavours thought it would be good for DDs Xmas eve box. £3.99 they were. They had loads of nice bits & pieces for stocking fillers . I’m going back for the Xmas latte mugs xxx

I have only been around for the last few years, but this is exactly how I feel.

It's a such a feel-good thread with barely any disagreements (let's forget about the referral code discussion last year!) and everyone is friendly and helpful.

Long may it continue!

I've just bought OK Play from Big Potato on Amazon and got the £10 Prime Day credit immediately. I also picked up the newer style Boggle that is more travel-friendly for just under £9. It's been that price for a while, but I've had my eye on it for a bit, so just bought it and that's another present ticked off!

I adore this thread and have been here for a long time, under different names and mostly as a lurker. The camaraderie is lovely and the suggestions are great.

I do find the place marking frustrating. Particularly when people don't seem to recognise that 'thanks for the new thread', 'oooh new thread and 'checking in' are still place marking and just mean the thread gets used up more quickly and reastie just has to do more work setting up yet another one.

One other thing, while I'm on my soap box is I sometimes wonder whether we encourage each other into buying useless stuff just because it's a bargain. I guess maybe with all that's happened in the world this year I'm more conscious than ever of the future and wonder whether our children in particular would really appreciate x off amazon or ebay just because it's only a quid. It's their future which will have to deal with the excess of today. I'm so sorry if that sounds bah humbug and I am guilty of it myself plus I love a happy, lavish christmas personally but might focus my spending on consumables, things I know the recipient actually wants and spending at local/independent stores even if it costs a little more. I know as a receiver I don't want quantity (unless it's chocolate), I'm happy with carefully chosen things and tend to be aware when those things cost a little more so wouldn't be expecting anything else, if that makes sense.

After all that waffle I have no actual bargains but my local eco/refill store has scrunchies made out of vintage fabric which would be great stocking fillers, so just offering that up as the type of place we all might not have thought to look!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 30/09/2020 11:45

Thank you Luxplus Smile, I’ve been to CPH (where I’m moving too) a few times and really like it so I’m excited! whereabouts are you?

thaegumathteth · 30/09/2020 11:47

Sorry if I'm repeating but just had an email to say the Alderney PJs at matalan are available to buy.

Also one pound sweets if anyone is buying Halloween / Christmas sweets code SPOOKY will give you 10% off but google for other codes too at time of ordering as sometimes they have better offers available.

I completely agree with you about buying things for the sake of it - we had to empty our loft during lockdown and the amount of “stuff” we had was just ridiculous. My parents and I have now decided we won’t buy things for the sake of it - everything has to have a purpose and be something that can be used up. So for example my daughter will have things like bubble bath/temporary tattoos/a new toothbrush/a magic flannel in her stocking as they’re all things that can be used up. I’m going to get my husband a gift card for Subway for his stocking so he can have some guilt-free work lunches rather than gimicky stuff just to bulk it out. Ideally I won’t have anything that will need to go into landfill when it’s fulfilled its purpose.

@Luxplus @IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece
I don't suppose either of you knows a good story to explain Nisser to British children do you? I'm a Dane but we moved to the US when I was little. Loved the Nisser visiting us in December (looong before the Elf on the Shelf trend) but I haven't really been able to explain this well to my British DH and DC (4 &7). x
