Groclock DS2 simply followed the cord and unplugged it when he decided it was getting up time (he was 3). DS1 it was a success for about three months. It’s gathering dust somewhere now...another thing for their new cousin (in the fullness of time!).

@FilthyforFirth I buy a candle and posh vodka for the one I don’t like (same every year, as I don’t spend time thinking about it 😆) and lovely perfume, posh hand cream, magazine subscription and delicious chocolates for the one I do like.

For lovely gardening things, check out the RHS website and also National Trust sell some lovely garden bits (I bought nice MIL some metal frames for her climbing roses and a bird box previously).

Avoiding thinking about all the crap going on so turning my thoughts to making my house into a spectacular Christmas wonderland. Does anyone have any recommendations for garlands? I'm going to need about 9m for where I'm thinking and while I don't want it to cost the earth, I also don't want it to look too cheap. Am looking to just get the greenery and me and my hot glue gun will get to work prettifying it.

@Smileatthesmallthings werchristmas are particularly bargainous for all things Christmas, and they have some lovely garlands in varying lengths. Can be found on amazon, or on their own website. We have garlands and a huge Xmas tree from there that outright beats our balsam hill one. There are usually discount codes available for the website, or boxes to tick on amazon, and they go on lightning deals quite a lot.
