Thank you @nickdrakeslovechild for thread title.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

nightowl would it be worth looking for a second hand kindle? I got one for £10 off schpock for my daughter. You can sign up to a monthly thing to borrow books. I remember Harry potter being on there but unsure of others for kids. There's often daily deals so books for 99p etc.

Memo7 · 02/09/2020 09:07

@Sunshineskies
I had an email when I woke up this morning saying my google home mini was ready to claim. Hopefully you have one too 😊 google store was really slow and glitchy though so may take a couple of attempts to place the order.
I was thinking of going premium anyway so I’m pleased. Makes up for me missing the John Lewis codes and the look fantastic boxes 😬

minsmum · 02/09/2020 09:10

My look fantastic boxes arrived, all exactly the same

They all have access to screens that we could put the kindle app on but over lockdown with notices drastic changes in their behaviours with screen time so they've been banned Monday to Friday and screen time has to be earned for the weekend so want to try and get some actual books that will be better for them then the ones we have.

I know this probably makes me sound like a super strict parent but we realised how much we slowly allowed more and more and then when my youngest DSS through his iPad at a his DS because she said his character on a game was rubbish and annoying videos were all they could talk about it got to the enough is enough point

BooSurprise · 02/09/2020 09:23

Just joined so might have already been posted, but Argos have some Lego Dots in their 2 for £15, they are up to £13 each, so I thought that was a good deal.

Feelingpoorlysick · 02/09/2020 09:38

For anyone buying for a paw patrol fan, amazon currently have some of the mighty vehicle sets half price www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07P6WL4F7/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Mamagotskills · 02/09/2020 09:44

Thank you! Paw patrol purchased

margaritasbythesea · 02/09/2020 09:44

NightOwl - my reluctant reader got going on Cressida Cowell's The Wizard of Once books. The How to train you Dragon ones are funny and might suit both 9 and 7. I got the whole 12 for £35 on the Scholastic website last year.

I also find World of Books and Hive good.

sorryiasked · 02/09/2020 09:49

@NightOwl19 I can recommend lowplex for books similar to the book people.
Also check Facebook for a children's book club, I only found or recently that we have a local one that runs on a weekend morning each half term. You take books to swap and can take the same number.

Christmascaker · 02/09/2020 09:55

@IggyAce thanks for the coat tip off, I’ve ordered two! Grin

Onlyahalfbottle · 02/09/2020 09:57

Thanks @Feelingpoorlysick DS will be over the moon with those, just waiting for a good deal on the lookout tower now!

nillygin · 02/09/2020 10:09

@NightOwl19 I don’t know your budget and might not work with multiple children, but I found ReadingChest a saviour during lockdown. It’s basically a reading scheme subscription rental by post. For £15 a month I had appropriate level school reading books all through lockdown for my youngest. It’s definitely more appropriate for kids who can’t read chapter books yet though.

Buying mass bundles on Facebook marketplace has got me through for my eldest - got 71 books for £10 at one point Grin

stressbucket1 · 02/09/2020 10:14

@NightOwl19 world of books is a great website for second hand books and free UK delivery too. We have had loads of books from there always great condition.

buckeejit · 02/09/2020 10:25

@BooSurprise thanks for that - just ordered 2 of the dot jewellry things. May keep one for dd & a great present for the 'present box' in case of
Party invites

UselessInDisguise · 02/09/2020 10:29

Thanks for the paw patrol tip, I've ordered two for DS Paw patrol 3rd birthday in October. Not sure if they will get here in time but fingers crossed!

MooseyMoo · 02/09/2020 10:39

@NightOwl19 For your 7 yr old: The Boy Who Grew Dragons Series, Varjak Paw, Max and the Millions

A couple of my DD favourite authors are
Abi Elphinstone: Rumblestar, Sky Song.
Katherine Rundell: Rooftoppers and The Explorers.
Amy Wilson: Snow Globe snd A Girl called Owl.

I’ve read some of these and they are beautifully written.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/09/2020 11:04

Lego dots animal picture holder and jewellery stands are down to 9.99 on Amazon. Only a few pounds off, but the best price I've seen,

UselessInDisguise · 02/09/2020 11:04

Has anyone any suggestions where I can get a cheap baby maraca?

Mamagotskills · 02/09/2020 11:09

Stompy they are in 2 for £15 at Argos too

@UselessInDisguise I ready that as baby mascara and was about to call SS

WineandDine · 02/09/2020 11:24

Thanks for the Le Crusset link!

Argos have Star Wars Lego ‘Duel on Starkiller’ set for £8.99 if anyone can find a store with stock. None available near me sadly but it’s a great bargain as Amazon is £25ish (sorry am rubbish at links)

UselessInDisguise · 02/09/2020 11:25

😂

Stompythedinosaur · 02/09/2020 11:41

Stompy they are in 2 for £15 at Argos too I looked but they weren't in stock anywhere near me - none of the decent Argos offers were. I have to take what I can get!

Mamagotskills · 02/09/2020 11:45

I always find that with Argos, it’s a real pain

TakeMeToYourLiar · 02/09/2020 11:53

@IggyAce

More a purchase for yourself, Asda have reduced the long line formal coat to £18.
