Here we go. We're still a chatty bunch. We're going to knock any previous thread count into a cocked hat!

Go, go, go...

Mrs Don't watch the excellent episode of "Waking the Dead" involving 9" nails. 😉🤐 (it's series 4)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2020 21:07

Ha! at the JO lack-of-love .
My DMum doesn't like his stubby little chubby fingers Shock

I'm a fan of Nigel Slater , when I spoon food out I "Nigel" it onto the plates ( ie ease it off the spoon not flick a lump of mash on the plate)

Watch a few Beautiful Baking with Juliet Sear at Dparents . She annoyed me , trying to do a Nigella glabce at the screen but going on about her 'sticky balls' and 'long sausage' , just smutty rather than alluring and Domestic Goddessey .

Mrsmadevans · 02/09/2020 21:16

l know Boot l couldn't leave them there Smile
I agree with you re thelilac bench, someone has done their picnic bench bright pink and it looks brillant!
Crazy can quite believe you have been banned from What Grin

I have to avoid a few of them tbh , l can't watch Peaky Blinders or Hannibal l'm hopeless Hmm
NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2020 22:22

Woolly, did you attach a photo, as I can't see it? Xmas Sad

70, the Nigella smut is hilarious! It's so obviously done. 😂😂

Nigel Slater pisses me off. Him and his 'left over' that's bigger than most people would buy (always in brown paper)! He looks a bit greasy too. I'm sure he's a nice chap, but he annoys me.

I prefer psychological thrillers to gory violence. I'm not a fan really.

Maybe when this is all over you could have a service with more people with singing, a true celebration of her life. Smile Yes Mrs had a lovely hot bath with bubbles, did the trick.

So glad to hear that you had good news from the hospital Firefly Flowers

Love Nigel Slater 70 Smile

Morning!

It's back to school day! Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop!

Oh my god. I cannot say how glad I am that they're going back! DD told me yesterday that they're excited, so that's good. She moves onto packed lunches now we have to pay for school dinners. DS still has a year of dinners to go.

They have staggered start and finish (DS 8.40 / 15.05; DD 8.55 / 15.20), which don't quite work, especially as it means starting at the wrong end of the one way system, but never mind!

We are cleaning carpet today. I'll also do other cleaning as well, and maybe paint the porch (which sounds like a euphemism and isn't!). Xmas Grin

@TheWoollybacksWife

Cross stitching countdowners this popped up on my Etsy recommendations. Isn't it lovely?
That's one for fluffy Xmas Smile It would fit in well with the ones you did last year.

Kids around here went back yesterday - DH was talking to NDN and they were expecting over 1100 people at the school (500 kids) how do you "bubble" that?

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 03/09/2020 07:11

Now I'm back at work I can't keep up with you all :( Will make a concerted effort to do so this evening but I might have to become a weekend poster :(

pussycatinboots · 03/09/2020 07:39

most sorry Xmas Blush we do seem to get carried away talking utter bollocks sometimes Xmas Grin

Off shopping in a bit - DH was going to walk home, but it's damp so he'll push the trolley instead which means he'll see what goes in it bummer!

If I start posting on here this evening, will someone kick me up the bum and remind me that cross stitch doesn't sew itself Xmas Blush
Ta Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 03/09/2020 07:50

Can somebody post the cross stitch from Woolly? I can't see it to know what it's like possibly for the best as I don't need encouragement to buy more.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/09/2020 07:51

Boots, school bubbles are meaningless given the number of siblings in other 'bubbles'! So it doesn't really work, no.

OP posts:
CrazyBaubles · 03/09/2020 08:08

woolly that Xstitch is so pretty!

Yay for another JO fan Firefly! He's the reason DH knows how to cook (and I refuse to clean up any massive kitchen disasters).

MrsMad I used to watch truly gruesome things as a youngster that I couldn't face now. It's so odd - I would have thought nothing of watching a gory film home alone but no it makes me feel a bit sick.

I've never watched Nigel Slater - maybe I should try 70?

Fluffy DHs class start back today too and he's so excited. Having all this time off has actually caused him to be quite stressed.
They're staggering classes (so only a third of the school are in today) but the layout means all the classes that are in have a door leading directly to the yard so no need for a one way system.

Pic attached is the one woolly posted...

We are definitely going to go ahead with the house so the stress of house hunting starts here!

I have a boring day of work ahead... is it bad that I'm planing to have something easy to watch playing in the background just so the house isn't too quiet?

Countdown to Christmas 2020 (thread 9): Vibrating beds and tiny choppers!
NoWordForFluffy · 03/09/2020 08:11

Ooh, yes, I've seen that one, Woolly. I love it, but didn't get it as I did a tree one the other year, and also have another tree one waiting. The Historical ones are lovely!

Good luck with house hunting, Crazy. Is there anything you have your eye on?

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 03/09/2020 08:15

I'm back to work today 😩 the dc aren't back at school until Monday.

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/09/2020 08:57

Good luck with the house hunting Crazy. Please share Rightmove photos (with the location removed) so we can check you have the essentials - somewhere to put your Christmas tree and a mantelpiece for your garland.

Boots I've got no idea how it's going to work. DS goes back on Monday and will be in a year group bubble of about 100. But he can also get the train to school and will be mixing with other year groups on the train and in the shuttle service from the train to school, plus all the commuters on the train. He'd prefer me to drive him door to door though entitled

DD1 went back to teaching today. Her school has over 1500 pupils and over the course of a day she can teach up to 150 pupils plus look after her form of 30. Lunch will be eaten with her colleagues in a socially distanced canteen and she has duty once a week where she will be mixing with an entire large year group 🤷🏻‍♀️

DD2 has worked in a supermarket throughout the spring and summer. Screens etc took quite a while to install. She goes back to uni at the end of this month. Lectures are online and they have been split into bubbles of about a dozen for seminars which will take place at uni. At least a third of her bubble have been ignoring social distancing recommendations anyway and DD2 is getting a bit anxious about meeting up with them.

Add all three of those together and we may as well be back to pre lockdown socialising. We're not going to - but it bamboozles me how were expected to do that but can't hug MIL when we visit. The Venn diagram of interaction would be very interesting to chart (I'm a maths nerd)

pussycatinboots · 03/09/2020 09:21

Woolly I see what you mean. That's a lot. I suspect your DS will have more points of contact then either DD due to his train journey. He's tried and failed to book "WoollyCabs" then?😉😁

Crazy I love a bit of Rightmove, and Woolly is right - you need to work out where to put the tree as No 1 priority!! Good Luck.🎄🏡

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/09/2020 09:30

I'm howling at "WoollyCabs" Boots. Like "BabsCabs" with extra knitting 😂

I think we will take him by car - at least for the first week or so. Hopefully he'll soon feel more relaxed about the journey and will want to get back to the train. The other thing to consider is that we usually buy him a season ticket. If things go tits up and we lockdown again there will be the palaver of reclaiming the costs or writing them off depending on how long there is left on the ticket.

CrazyBaubles · 03/09/2020 09:42

Fluffy there are a few houses we like the look of so am trying to arrange viewings. It's going to be a struggle to get what we want for what we can afford but we're ok with compromises if it means we end up with a house!

woolly I will def add some pics for you to review!
I'm glad DH works in a primary school. They're essentially doing 'class bubbles' so they go to break at the same time as 1 or 2 other classes but use separate areas and they're eating lunches in the classroom (DH has to eat in there too).
Today he's working with his class, coming home and having the staff meeting via Teams - but he told me some of the staff who are friends outside of work have been meeting up etc so surely it's only a matter of time before numbers go up and we end up back in lockdown?

I'm a bit stressed now. I've been working while wearing my pjs today because I feel so tired and rubbish. Thought it would be fine as no meetings etc - and ones just come through for 12:30 so now I have to go and shower / make myself look presentable and I can't be arsed 😫

BiddyPop · 03/09/2020 10:17

I'm having a growly morning - DD was in good form (unlike yesterday) and I had a good start, then I logged into work and got frustrated (again!!) at all the things my current boss has not done, that I can't then progress other things. Including my performance management that I had submitted in March and thought was signed off then - we have to do our interim reviews and I can't get into mine. As well as being made to feel like I am inconveniencing him asking to talk about the survey we need to circulate but he won't let me just circulate, he has a plan (that I've been hearing about for 2 months, just not actually told me it yet....) - we had been due to have a specific phonecall on that every day for the past 10 days, and today I have another meeting scheduled for afternoon but guess what - it clashes with when he had planned to talk to me!!! [GRR] I call bullxxxx….

Sorry, growl over, might actually go get coffee and drink it outdoors as there is a strange yellow ball in the sky just now....in between all the normal fluffy things

NerosFiddle · 03/09/2020 11:06

Biddy I saw on another thread that you brine your turkey. Is it a dry brine or a wet brine a la Nigella?

BiddyPop · 03/09/2020 11:27

Neros well, last year (the 1 year I actually managed to do it, I planned it many years!!), I used DD's large garden trug that is only ever used for bringing wet sailing gear home in the car (after a good wash - but it was nicely salty!! Grin) for a wet brine almost exactly to Nigella's recipe.

I didn't used as much salt, and feel like I had too much water to other ingredients proportionately so didn't get much extra flavour. But I thought it helped keep it moist. DH was antsy about it though, as I kept it in the downstairs shower (a cold room and we have another upstairs) overnight - so I need to see if I will get away with it again or not.

NerosFiddle · 03/09/2020 11:39

Biddy I've mentioned that I keep threatening to do it, but never actually. Have you ever seen gavin and Stacey where they try and do it? They get themselves in a tizz about when to put it into the water/ how many peppercorn you put in it.

pussycatinboots · 03/09/2020 11:54

Neros & Biddy It sounds far more palatable than the one from The Royle Family where Dave takes a bubble bath with the turkey to defrost it 🤣🤣🦃

BiddyPop · 03/09/2020 12:18

🤣🤣🤣 boots I’m really glad I never had to eat THAT kind of turkey!! 🤮

I decided to use the sunshine to pull moss off the roof by DD’s veluxes, as there was some water got in during the very heavy rain yesterday. About a half a bucket pulled off, I’ll tackle it again once what’s left has dried to get the further down clumps (I sent a few big jugs of water down to move the loose bits to the gutter as it’s easier to empty that from a ladder than fall out the window taking it from above).

So I’m now enjoying my coffee in the garden.

I will do proper work again shortly, I promise 😇
