Here we go. We're still a chatty bunch. We're going to knock any previous thread count into a cocked hat!

Go, go, go...

Sticky Vicky has retired and her daughter has taken over the "family business"

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2020 21:50

I'd be mortified if a) my mum did this and b) if my mum then taught me it. What a fun family activity!

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/09/2020 21:52

My mum taught me to knit. I have led a very sheltered life.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2020 21:58

Gardening here. Very sedate!

I'm not sure not being Sticky Vicky is sedate. Her and her daughter are unusual to say the least! (I hope, anyway!) 😱😱😱

why I know sickness rates have increased massively and majority of reasons are MH & lockdown related. It's such a hard time.

When are you heading back Fluffy?
I've never watched / read anything Nigella based. Not sure why apart from the fact I don't do any Christmas cooking. I always enjoy a Jamie Oliver Christmas special though.

😂😂 at your poem puss

Firefly dsis was told her DS2 was going to be big (he was born v v early so was naturally tiny - 3lbs) and dd was going to be small - she was 9lbs!!

I haven't seen the list woolly so I'll go and have a nose. I always liked Caroline Quentin though...

Trying to think of skills passed to me by my mum.... Sewing, cooking a roast and how to show how little patience you have without going all out nuclear 😂 Far more useful than Sticky Vicky skills!

I'm just falling into bed. Slept awful last night and have had a pounding head all day 🤕

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/09/2020 22:45

I was told my oldest would be 11lb plus and he was 9.14.6 (Being exact there 🤣) My youngest I did not have a prediction for but she was 8.14 three weeks early.

Morning! I'm too hot and have been awake ages. Ho hum.

We go home today. Hurrah. 😂 I like a trip away, but I also like home!

I think the weather is set to turn later, so it's no bad thing that we're leaving.

Why, we do build our babies big (you were enormous with DS too...Dottie P experience!).

Good morning!! Just checking in before work.
Good news about nigella - I love Christmas cookery shows.
Have a good day everyone

pussycatinboots · 02/09/2020 06:44

@TheWoollybacksWife

I googled sticky vicky. OH MY GOD, MY EYES! I cannot unsee that. It would seem my life was equally as sheltered as yours, Woolly. BlushGrin although it was my Nan who taught me to knit

Enjoy your trip home, fluffy. You've a nice day for it (so far).

Crazy, thank you...it's always been an aspiration to get something published, do you think I should persevere?

pussycatinboots · 02/09/2020 06:47

Constantly, I think it's the fairy lights and atmosphere with the Nigella ones...they always make you feel festive. 🎄

NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2020 06:58

Bloody hell, Boots, didn't my warning to NOT Google mean anything?! 😱😂

I love Nigella too. I'd think it's quite easy to film with SD measures in place. It'll be nice to have some normality!

FireflyGirl · 02/09/2020 07:27

We went to Benidorm when I was about 16. I remember seeing the advertisements for Sticky Vicky, and DDad bustling us past Grin He's a bit of a prude. DM explained...

Bless you, boots. Let's hope no-one needs to check your browser history for any reason Wink

I enjoy watching Nigella's shows - the twinkly lights make me feel festive. They're a bit aspirational - my house will never be that tidy, my food will never be that posh, and even if I wore makeup I'd never look as well put together 🤣 I do like her Christmas baking recipes, though!

Similar with Kristie's crafting shows - I'd never make half of the tat gifts on there, but I love to watch them.

I kept getting bad cramps at the bottom of my bump all last night, so I called the hospital and the midwife has booked me into the antenatal day unit first thing this morning. Pretty certain they're going to tell me they're Braxton Hicks or constipation Blush

NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2020 07:51

Good luck at the hospital, Firefly. Better to get checked than not.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 02/09/2020 07:53

Best to get checked fire could be a UTI? Hopefully nothing.

It's sunny here which is good as I've got loads of washing and dh is going to finish the painting. I need to pop to Tesco to get enough for today and tomorrow and I'll do a big shop Friday. I need fuel too which is annoying as they're all expensive round here.

TheWoollybacksWife · 02/09/2020 09:03

I CANNOT EMPHASISE THIS ENOUGH 😂😂

Also @Mrsmadevans don't worry about Googling stuff to catch up with the thread. Many apologies that my pelvic floor has led us astray.

I also love Nigella's Christmas shows. It's definitely the twinkly lights/music/guests for me. In reality there's only ever the 5 of us here but I can dream of a houseful of people sipping cocktails and being amazed at my delicious canapés. I can do fairy lights and music like her though.

Good news that you are getting checked out Firefly. Keep us posted.

On the subject of Christmas lights I'm still looking for bargain LED candles. My Google search history is blameless compared to Boots. Hopefully places like B&M and The Range will have some in once their Christmas stock is out in full force.

pussycatinboots · 02/09/2020 09:05

Fire good luck at the Hosp. I love that your DDad is a prude 😮

fluffy the one sure-fire way to get me to do something is tell me not to 🤦‍♀️

B&Q don't have the shed paint we need. There's literally gallons of every other shade, but no Autumn Gold. I suspect they've stopped making that colour it is a bit air-hostess orange tbh I've tried Screwfix, Wickes and Wilko and they've none...anywhere remotely local.🤷🏻‍♀️

Mrsmadevans · 02/09/2020 09:18

Blinking heck l am lost here , l posted yesterday and today on several threads and they have gone!!! 😂😂😂
Never mind start again 🙄
Fire love & best wishes are winging their way to you 🤗💐
Can't stop it's my Mother's friends funeral a d guess who has to go on their day off to represent her 🙄 yes that's right Muggins !
Hope everyone is ok will spk ltr 🤗

TheWoollybacksWife · 02/09/2020 09:22

Boots do you have a Range nearby? Their garden and diy departments are pretty good. Otherwise can you arrange a click and collect at B&Q or Wickes and see if they can get some in from a central warehouse. It looks like it's still manufactured so somewhere must sell it.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2020 09:29

Boots, we have loads of that colour, I think!

I Google everything I shouldn't especially things I find on the do not Google threads here. I have learnt things I really did not mean to.

Hope bump check goes well firefly.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 02/09/2020 09:35

Fluffy the DottyP experience was utterly hilarious. Expectations so high, the reality not so high 🤣

NerosFiddle · 02/09/2020 09:38

The was a thread a while ago about things not to google. Of course you then have to google it.

I love watching Nigella. The full Christmas episodes used to be on YouTube but they took it down. You can wacky fanny craddock on iPlayer though. And more boring but all of Jamie Oliver's Christmas specials are on 4OD.

NerosFiddle · 02/09/2020 09:38

Fire hope everything goes well.

BiddyPop · 02/09/2020 10:18

Good luck Firefly, hope all is well at the check.

MrsMad, it drives you mad, doesn't it, when you KNOW you've posted and they don't appear....I hope all goes ok at the funeral and that you get some relaxation time later.

It's a thoroughly miserable morning here - the back garden is flooded again and I need the lights on. DD was somewhat ratty going to school, she was wearing the formal uniform today as no PE/sports, but after tomorrow, she thinks she won't need it again until the day they get Christmas holidays (they are to wear sports uniform any day they have sports/PE, and she will have something every single day from next Monday...).

Yesterday, as I was waiting for my boss to tell me how he wants to do a big job (I need him to tell me because he has said he wants it done a certain way - just not HOW, and I'm only waiting 10 days - I have TRIED to get in touch on it!), I had nothing else urgent to do so when my new storage cannisters arrived (ordered online), I reorganised my ingredients/baking cupboard. (In between keeping an eye on emails). And I spent last night doing mending (various buttons needed to be sewn back on, a couple of small rips etc) and cast off the current scarf (I want to add a fringe to each end).

This morning, having sent boss another message, I am checking in here Grin before reading a long report that will be useful when I move jobs internally in 10 days, and I will ring boss straight after lunch to chase him if I don't hear from him. He is used to a very different pace from his previous role (linked but outside our Department) so it is somewhat frustrating.

Yeah, I think DH has definitely got a need for some cheerfulness, so we are likely to be putting up more lights than usual and a lot earlier, and probably the tree might go up earlier too (so it will be the fake this year). But I was listening to the My Merry Christmas podcast last night (the history of Jingle Bells, on the current series on the Victorian Christmas, to be precise!) and he growled and made me turn on something else!! So still a mixture of Elf and Grinch Xmas Grin !!

I'd better get out this report and start reading, to do something productive. Oh, it's stopped raining in the past couple of minutes and skies lightened a bit - I can turn off the lights!! Have a good day all

CrazyBaubles · 02/09/2020 10:18

Hope everything is ok today Firefly

I'm giving a Nigella Christmas special a go. Have to say, I'm only 4 minutes in and I'm not impressed. In the one I'm watching she's apparently done a journey to some country house and all we've had is her make a martini, shake it like she's lost control of her arms, plinky plonky non-Christmas music and the start of some baking.

I'm looking at LED candles this year too woolly. My friend had them last year and they were lovely.

Not a fan of JO Neros? I must admit I have a soft spot for his shows. I think it's because he does straight forward food that even I can follow Xmas Smile

We had good and bad news yesterday re mortgage. We can get one with a 15% deposit (which we can just about stretch to) but interest rates are higher than the previous mortgage offer so monthly payments will be approx £150 more each month.
I was too irritated yesterday to be able to post.
Can anyone offer any advice? Part of me wants to stop renting and paying someone else's mortgage and part of me thinks surely the government will step in and do something to help the housing market soon and I'll be kicking myself if we agree to this high rate then it lowers dramatically just after we've bought a house 😫🤯
