Here we go. We're still a chatty bunch. We're going to knock any previous thread count into a cocked hat!

Go, go, go...

I bought a box of Cinnamon Roll mixes from Costco , dutifully mixed , proved , rolled out , added the cinnamoney filling ( used soya milk and soya marg) , rolled up, cut up, proved again.......baked half / froze half to bake later .

They were "ok" and were fine after freezing but would be improved with some pecan nuts Xmas Grin but I'm not sure they were worth the effort TBH.

I used to make buns with banana chips and walnuts which were lovely .
I've got the stand mixer to do the work for me , I might just do some from scratch

NoWordForFluffy · 31/08/2020 21:38

I've got the dried fruit stocks coming on Weds (I bought cranberries a couple of months ago). I think I'm doing OK, actually! But I like to be prepared!

Sounds lovely 70. I made cinnamon roll dough in the bread maker. The DDs loved them but I found them a bit doughy. I think I expected the crisp flaky ones like you get at the supermarket.

BiddyPop · 31/08/2020 22:46

70s I did that one year too and thought "meh". But I forgot a final jar, which rested at the back of a cupboard for about 3 years. Oooh la la!!! There was the difference!! But it does require patience to let it sit and steep a long while. (I made a batch in autumn 2019, didn't really go baking, so I have recently bottled it from large kilner where it initially soaked to smaller jars (to use and to give as presents), I am hoping that this will add a joyful note to Christmas 2020 and make me forget other things - it was a rather boozy batch!! Blush).

Actually, I need to stock up on dried fruit too - I WILL make a Christmas Cake this year.

I had a horrid shift at work and you lot talking about grated fairies did make me smile. Fluffy excellent next thread title.

Morning!

It's another sunny day and we're off out for a walk. We've decided it's not right to take the kids up Snowdon as it's forecast to be freezing at the top (and they're out of walking practice presently!) so we're walking a disused railway line instead. I think we'll get further that way!

I forgot to buy sweets bribes in Morrison's, so hopefully there'll be a overpriced shop en route.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2020 07:35

Sorry you had a horrid shift, Why. You don't often have a good one do you? Sad

Morning.
Nice day for a walk. We're going into town and DH is walking back, so I get the easy job of unloading the boot of sacks of cat litter Hmm
fluffy I can't believe you forgot the sweets. 🤦‍♀️
Why I'm glad the grated fairies made you smile Grin keep a look out in coming weeks for other festive items being attacked by kitchen implements Wink

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/09/2020 08:10

Sounds rough why Thanks

DD1 physically back in work today for the first time in nearly 6 months. It's a couple of training days and then back to teaching on Thursday. She's a bit apprehensive but will hopefully get some more information today.

Chilly out this morning at 7 degrees. I got up for a couple of hours overnight and came back to bed to find DH wrapped up in the duvet like a fajita 😂 I think it might be time to take the throw out of the wardrobe and add it to the duvet. It's the summer weight duvet and I want to hold off putting the winter one on until the weather gets properly cold. We try to hold off putting the heating on until at least October and it's never on overnight but everything seems warmer once it's on, so having the winter duvet on and the heating on is the nuclear option.

Enjoy your walk Fluffy

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2020 08:29

Woolly, I like to wait until October for heating too, if possible. I have to keep banging on at DH to close the bloody windows by mid-afternoon so it doesn't get too cold inside!

Good luck to your DD1. Is DD2 still training?

Small children have melted my brain, Boots...I find it impossible to remember stuff these days. Possibly a combination of small kids AND peri, but DH is also forgetful, so the kids are at least part of it! 😂😂

Morning everyone 😀
Drama at MumBobs as always yesterday so didn't post here. Did read though and saw your posts 😁
Have a lovely dayFluffy it's gorgeous there. l have never been but l am going to go in the future 😁
🤗 Why sorry about your shifts lovely , it's tough isn't it 💐.
Boot well done on the cat litter heaving 👏😽😁💐
Biddy l want to make a cake too but l think l am not motivated enough because of the half price offers from Waitrose and Marks . Tbf they are delicious cakes too 😁🤤 what a dilemma 🙄😱
Woolly you're getting on with your prep well done ! 💐
Have had a good moan about my siblings on the frugal thread so you have escaped it you lucky gels you 🙄😱😂
Off to MumBobs in a bit DD 2 doing them tomorrow so l am looking forward to a break . Mum's Ndn son is going up with her tomorrow morning he's a lovely kid , very fond of Mum bless him. We thought it would be safe now that you can have 4 homes in your bubble. We are not counted because we are classed as her carers ,so she has Bob's DD , my sister and the Ndn son and Bob's Ndn so it should be fine 😁
They have antibacterial gel and masks and gloves and they know they have to adhere to it .
Right l better shift have a lovely day everyone 😀

Mrsmadevans · 01/09/2020 08:42

I am another advocate for heating off till October too 😁

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/09/2020 09:15

Fluffy my shifts are getting worse and worse. Not sure how much longer I can tolerate this job. It is too much. Boots if you could arrange some Elf on the Shelf 'incidents' that would be great I am very glad that was not big when my kids were small. Mrs sounds like your mum is being a tad difficult.

pussycatinboots · 01/09/2020 09:55

fluffy yeah, he can't use peri as the excuse Grin DH goes around closing windows as soon as I've opened them.
woolly DH has a 13.5tog on at the mo Shock I'm still in and out of a 4.5tog. Our heating is on 24hrs when it's cold enough - it makes me feel quite 🤢 but he can't get warm even with multiple layers and duvets.
Why You need to start looking for something else today. If you promise to look, I'll work out what to do with an elf and a garlic press Wink

CrazyBaubles · 01/09/2020 10:38

why sorry your shift was horrible. Are you looking at other job options?

Similar story here for DH woolly. First day back today but no dc until Thursday.

I wish I liked mince pies and mulled wine / cider but I really can't get into them. Makes me feel like a defective Christmas lover!

It's quite chilly here but heating won't be coming on for a good while yet unless DH sneaks it on. I have got a jumper on over my dress and thick Christmas socks on though!
I may steal the idea of adding a throw onto the bed though. Not sure why I haven't thought of it before - we have a 4.5tog duvet and I have an old fashioned eiderdown stashed away which I think I'll throw on later.

NerosFiddle · 01/09/2020 10:47

Morning.

I've been looking at Christmas duvets. This is the ones I like from Matalan.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/09/2020 10:52

Crazy and Boots I have been looking for other jobs for a while so Boots do your worst with elves and a garlic press 🤣

CrazyBaubles · 01/09/2020 11:23

What work is it that you do why? Is there any chance of things improving?

Neros the tartan and scandi ones are my favourites.
If / when we buy a house I intend to buy brushed cotton tartan Christmas bedding for the spare room Xmas Smile

I am procrastinating terribly. I'm working on my first big project / doc for the new job and my brain is refusing to play ball 🙄

mosscarpet · 01/09/2020 11:25

@FireflyGirl

Grin

Thanks Fluffy, that would have been perfect, but it's not open on Fridays!!

Options seem to be Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Clifton Park in Rotherham, or else we rethink the entire plan and go to Eureka.

Clifton Park is nice, has a good playground and a small museum bit. Alternatively Weston Park Museum is also quite good (and free!) www.museums-sheffield.org.uk/museums/weston-park/home not on the same level as Magna, but nice if you haven't been before, also nice park/grounds to explore/picnic in etc... Yorkshire Wildlife park is definitely good for a day out too. Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a nice outdoors/picnic spot and is free as well.
mosscarpet · 01/09/2020 11:26

right, I have decided I'm going to start wrapping next week when dc are back at school and I've got 4 days off work. Still got lots to buy, but will at least start wrapping what I've got. Grin

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/09/2020 11:27

Crazy I work for the NHS in the Crisis Pathway, mostly on a mental health phone line and things are getting worse and worse to be honest. I am considering going back to the wards even though it will be a drop in pay. Not ideal but I don't want to crash myself.

mosscarpet · 01/09/2020 11:30

why I sympathise. I work in a CMHT and is absolutely bloody awful at the moment. It is so, so stressful. Lots of our team are off sick currently due to the stress.Sad

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/09/2020 11:37

why that's such a great thing that you do. Is it getting harder with lockdown?

moss you are brave! I'd be scared of losing track of what I'd bought if I wrap too early plus I'd be worried about tearing the paper while they were in storage.

CrazyBaubles · 01/09/2020 11:48

I like to wrap when the decs are up - I have a traditional wrapping evening (me on sofa, DH our for the evening, ironing board as a desk, fairy lights on, rum & Coke, choc orange if poss, Christmas films - must include Muppets Christmas Carol) and everything gets wrapped.
No dc here so we don't have loads to wrap but I love my little tradition. I also love wrapping though, I usually end up doing some for my mum and some for my sister too.

why Is that a line people can call if they need MH help?
A long time ago, when I was too young and inexperienced for the job, I was a support worker. I was meant to support people with MH issues to live as independently as possible. It was so so hard, especially if any of them needed anything extra as services are hard to arrange. I have an immense respect for anyone who works in that sector.

If you go back to the wards would it be a MH one? Money isn't the most important thing - if you could survive on the pay drop but you'd be happier / work would be more manageable for you, I'd move 💐

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/09/2020 12:02

Moss it is a nightmare isn't it.
