Had quite a tough shift tonight. I heard one of the worst life stories ever. Just wanted to give him a huge hug and if there had been no virus I would have.

WreckTangled · 15/05/2020 06:59

Haha no mrs the crisps craving stopped but the thirst continued!

Day off today. Need to do some of my online course and get the dc to do some work. Hopefully I can get theirs out of the way this morning so I can do stuff later. Also bonus is my work laptop has 4G so I can sit in the garden and do it.

WreckTangled · 15/05/2020 06:59

Why I'm sorry you had a tough shift Sad it's hard not to let these things weigh on your mind Thanks

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 07:17

Sorry to hear that why Sad

We went to Blue Diamond in St Mellons Mrs which is our regular one :)

I can see on the BBC that the First Minister is due to give a roadmap for Wales later today so very interested to see what it says.

Morning! I'm tired as I couldn't sleep last night. I need to get up!

Half day today...I've got loads to put in the ground. My leeks are almost big enough now too, but not quite yet, thankfully. Hopefully my top soil / compost mix will come today. I ordered a bulk bag to be delivered straight to my plot. It's for the kids' raised beds. Only one is built so far, but the other will be today.

Sorry work was rough, Why. MH services have been underfunded for so long that it's no surprise people are suffering.

Cucumber is not looking good :( DS is really upset.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/05/2020 08:02

Do you have any cucumber seeds, Most? They grow really quickly.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 15/05/2020 08:05

Put the poorly cucumber in the mini greenhouse today. See if it gets happier. Unless it's properly dead!

Give it a feed (tomato feed is fine). Then cross fingers. Plants can come back from almost-dead.

Morning Xmas Grin

I am rubbish with plants . I tried to grow pumpkins one year ( my NDN had feral pumpkins in their front garden after the seeds spilled from their Hallowe'en pumpkins) mine got to the size of a tennis ball, shrivelled up and fell off Xmas Sad )

Fig tree was really mean with fruit and the whole tree finally died . Actually the only fruit was in the first year which you cannot eat , the birds had them.

On a plus note , DH and I are off to Costco , it'll be an experience so say the least .
And I found last years W&H Christmas magazine under the mattress , so that must've been kept for a reason Xmas Wink

whydoes just you listening and being there would've helped that person immensely . Don't underestimate how patients find that unburdaning to someone independant can help . Often they feel they cannot burden their family , or worry that their friends will back away . Sometimes being a good pair of ears is worth rubies .

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 08:23

Thanks for the advice fluffy, will give it a go and also try to order some cucumber seeds as a back up

CrazyBaubles · 15/05/2020 08:23

Thanks why - agree with 70, you will have helped more than you know.

I have my fingers crossed for your plant most

I've been awake since 6:30. I got up and showered but I was then freezing so jumped back into bed. DH has only just got up so even though I was awake early I'm still being lazy 🙄

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 08:26

Just ordered cucumber seeds from Premier Seeds for under £2 including postage! Will stick them in the ground as soon as they arrive :)

NoWordForFluffy · 15/05/2020 08:40

Don't put them in the ground, Most. Start them in pots in your mini greenhouse. Mine came up in days!

I ❤️❤️ Premier Seeds. They have really good quality seeds.

Enjoy Costco, 70!

Fab thanks Fluffy :) Thought it might be too late for pots but will trust your more extensive experience!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 15/05/2020 09:07

Thanks for your positive thoughts everyone. Took me a while to get it out of my mind but alright now.

I can't do gardening to save my life. I am seriously uninterested plus I only have to touch a plant and it dies. So I am the opposite of green fingers 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 15/05/2020 09:15

Cucumbers are fussy buggers and the soil will be too cold yet! Your DS will have a plant more quickly if you do pots. ☺️

Black fingers, Why?! 😂

WreckTangled · 15/05/2020 09:17

I'm the same why. Plus I hate dirt and worms. I like to look at flowers though Grin

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 09:18

Great thanks fluffy :)

CrazyBaubles · 15/05/2020 09:21

I'm not a gardener either, with the added bonus of not really liking flowers 😂

My dream garden is part grass, part patio with pots of herbs dotted around and maybe a lavender plant and a trough with wildflowers (purely planted for the benefits of bees and butterflies).

Fluffy have you always been a keen gardener or has your interest come about due to the allotment?

NoWordForFluffy · 15/05/2020 09:30

I've got over my mud hatred! And I'm a bit better with spiders these days too as I'm often in close quarters with them. 😂 😱

I just love eating food I've grown from a teeny seed.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 09:36

Hmm nursery have clearly been given the heads up about today's announcement by Mark Drakeford as they have just asked us to let them know ASAP if we want our children to attend when they reopen 'sometime in June'.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 09:37

There is something so magical about seeing massive plants laden down with fruits that you remember starting off as a seed so small you could barely see it isn't there fluffy!

I hated gardening until about 2 years ago.

NerosFiddle · 15/05/2020 10:21

I'm in the camp of non gardeners. I got a grow your own kit for children last year and it still didn't work out.

Our garden centres can open on Monday so I'm sure there will be a lot of people out trying to be green fingered.

Most we've been given a preliminary date of 1st June. I won't be sending them back at that stage though.

Is there anything that you would add to my menu? Dh has said more desserts and more picky things.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/05/2020 10:26

We know it won't be 1st June here in Wales but perhaps it will be a week or two later. I am not sure what to do to be honest. As DS is an only child I am worried about his socialisation but he doesn't want to go back. I would prefer it to be honest if playdates were allowed as then he could have socialisation but just with a couple of children, not a nursery full.
