Afternoon.

Here we go again! It feels slightly bonkers setting off again before today is over, but it's tradition, so who am I to argue?!

I had my 1st bout of tonsillitis at 39, it was bloody horrendous!!

Mrsmadevans · 08/01/2020 22:20

Tonsillitis is horrible. Hope your DD is feeling much better Nero 💐
Crazy you & your DH too m'dear 💐
Wreck hope Ds is more settled now🤗 they are just so tired from going back to school.
Biddy so sorry to hear about your family bereavement my dear 💐
Fluffy a week in the Cairngorms 😄 delightful 👏

FireflyGirl · 08/01/2020 22:26

Hope your DD feels better soon, Neros, tonsillitis is awful. DH had it over the Christmas period. He was trying to trump my abscess, he does it every time! Hmm

On New Year's Eve, we were both on strong antibiotics so no drinking, we went to bed early as we felt so rotten, and his snoring was so bad I exiled him to the spare room! Great start to 2020 Confused

Flowers Biddy

Wreck is anyone around to give you a hand? Wine

Hope you're feeling better Crazy. No point beating yourself up over a gain. It has just been Christmas and you said yourself some of it will come straight back off. I found combining mindfulness (as per Wreck) with calorie counting on MFP really effective to lose weight, it makes you really think about what food you're eating and why you're eating it, in a way that SW doesn't. And that was a big part of why SW wasn't right for me. My 'full' meter doesn't work - because it was 'free' I'd give myself the same size portions as DH, who's nearly a foot taller (including veggies, because I like veggies). When I cut my portion sizes right down by half, I still didn't feel hungry after eating a meal, and I lost weight. On SW I'd eat fruit because it was free, when actually I wasn't hungry, just bored or emotional.

When I had a limit to my daily calories, I'd think 'that apple/chocolate bar/biscuit is the equivalent of rice/Poppadoms to go with my curry at teatime'. Then I'd make a decision whether it was still worth it. If it was, I'd eat it.

Morning!

Mrs, I'm sorry you're still unwell. The cough is the worse thing, isn't it? My throat is still a bit sore, but improving slowly.

I always used to get throat infections, not tonsillitis. Twice a year, every year, for ages. My throat is still my weak point.

I always use MFP, Firefly. I lost over 4 stone after having DS. I've mostly kept it off, other than a stone the other year. I've been better since getting the allotment as I burn so many calories there.

Wreck, DS also hits. I despair sometimes (DD does too!). But it's so difficult and so much of it is them not being able to express themselves with words very well, I think. It's hard. Flowers

WreckTangled · 09/01/2020 07:01

Fluffy do they hit each other too?! Mine have recently started really fighting 🙄

DH put ds to bed last night and I read a book. Ds ended up in our bed again. I don't mind but DH does.

I've got an hour to my visit this morning so need to get cracking.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2020 07:53

A bit, Wreck. DS more than DD really. Not full on fighting, but a single blow.

I really do think that so much of DS' issues are due to emotional (im)maturity though. He doesn't know how to do calm and rational and gets really frustrated. I try to talk to him but even when we're calm he struggles to express the root of his angst. It's hard.

WreckTangled · 09/01/2020 07:57

Yes same here. Ds has finally started saying it can't so it' when he's. We kid about doing something instead of just clinging to us and refusing to go so that's a step forward.

The weather is miserable here. It's dark, wet and windy!

Has anyone seen the new exhibition coming to the national history museum? It's a fantastic beasts one so I'm hoping to take the dc if it's not too expensive.

FireflyGirl · 09/01/2020 07:59

I also used it to get the weight off after DS, Fluffy.

Unfortunately, it went out the window after DUncle died (we were very close, he had learning disabilities and after my Nana died, DMum, DSis and I took over supporting him. DMum mostly. He was able to live independently, but liked the company of tea once a week/shopping trip). Then I started back at work, sedentary office job instead of walking miles a day with the pram, and the snacks started slipping back in.

I'm still good with healthy meals and portion sizes, but I eat way too many snacks Blush And 6 weeks in bed over the summer when all I could eat was basic carbs definitely didn't help... Hey ho, new year, new start.

Hope you at least got a decent night's sleep, Wreck. I'm guessing football tomorrow is looking very iffy.

WreckTangled · 09/01/2020 08:01

Well he's actually been going to bed nicely and he did give me this....

On your marks, get set, go...it's the countdown to Christmas 2020. Thread 1!
FireflyGirl · 09/01/2020 08:01

Ooh, that sounds exciting, Wreck. DS is more into space ships than anything like that, but I could still drag DH along! Grin

Mrsmadevans · 09/01/2020 08:10

Morning everyone 😀
Fluffy well done on the4 stone loss that is determination 👏👍💐. Cough is hanging in there 🤧😷 , am fed up with it tbh l wish it would bgr off.
Looks awful out , windy and rainy , up to Mum's in a bit.
Wreck you are starting early this morning m'dear , last day in work for you this week isn't it . Try and chill a little if you can, life is so difficult these days with everything going on and having to juggle everyone at the same time 💐
Exhibition sounds fantastic 🤗 my Dd1 would love it!
Right better shift off to Mum's have a great day everyone 😀

Mrsmadevans · 09/01/2020 08:18

Cross posted , Firefly girl, l find the responsibility of looking after Mum leaves me needing a quick fix for my streß levels and l use food for that , so l get you looking after your Unc isn't easy as much as we love them we have to look after ourselves too 💐
Wreck that little note 😭 ♥️🤗 what a little darling he is.
I know he did wrong but that is heart on his sleeve bless him.
Must shift 🤗

PJMasksGhekko · 09/01/2020 10:20

Morning everyone.

DD2 slipped in the mud this morning, while waiting to go into school, so a mad dash home to get her school fleece and clean trousers, no sympathy from me though as it's obvious how mucky the grass is, I can be harsh sometime Grin

I'm fine with my eating during the day, it's the evenings.

PJMasksGhekko · 09/01/2020 10:21

Ah bless him wreck, did he get prompted to do it, or he decided to do it himself?

BiddyPop · 09/01/2020 12:05

Morning all Flowers to those in need of hugs and support, and well wishes for those who are ill or caring for others who are ill. The morning drizzle (after heavy rain overnight) has given way to sunshine here, but a busy day at my desk and with other paperwork at home tonight. At least I managed to make my salad for today and tomorrow's lunches last night so the new year intention of working off the extra (2) stone is started (I started the year on exactly the same weight as last year, but at least it was 5 lbs lighter than mid-December...despite not really watching things too much over the break)...Chat later

WreckTangled · 09/01/2020 12:43

PJ DH told him he had to say sorry. He gets too nervous to say it so likes to write these things down.

He actually has football training tonight and tomorrow. He's definitely going to tonight's because we pay for it Grin hopefully he will go to bed nicely tonight or he won't be doing the free one tomorrow.

So glad it's Thursday.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2020 13:09

Your DS really is like mine, Wreck. He can't say sorry. He has to write it it spell it out. Funny that they're so similar.

We've booked our Santa train tickets today for 20 December! One thing ticked off the list!

Evenings are hard, I think. We've stopped having as much dinner so we have calorie leeway!

PJMasksGhekko · 09/01/2020 13:42

Aww well writing it down obviously works for them, it's hard isn't it.

PJMasksGhekko · 09/01/2020 14:15

Just walked the bonkers dog, and dd2s coat is in the tumble dryer, hopefully it will be ready for the school run.

Not the same Fluffy but I've booked Christmas day off work this year as it falls on my Friday to work boooo

EmrysAtticus · 09/01/2020 15:18

Sorry to have been AWOL but the allotment is ours!

FireflyGirl · 09/01/2020 15:27

Congratulations, Emrys. Can't wait to see more pictures! And lucky you that someone has helped you make a start!

I worked from home today, as we had the boiler man come, so for my 'lunch' I've been sorting the greenhouse at home. Still need to wash all the pots, but I've turned over the bed (which used to be the lawn), thrown some compost on, and put in slug traps. I'm going to start some lettuce off in the house and see if we can get home grown lettuce in a couple of months. I had some lettuce plants that have overwintered in the greenhouse and they haven't grown much but haven't died, which makes me hopeful!
