Thread 5 - The Mumsnet bargain thread - spreading the squeaky clean, ethical love!

So it’s not a thread all about ethical stuff (good grief there’s a lot of plastic tat that’s been purchased by me from these threads over the years) but with our current obsession with soap bars and shampoo bars and then I think it was fireflygirl who did the quote and it tickled me.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

As it was at the end of the previous thread, Born Free have a 50% sale for animal lovers.

I went to collect my M&S order today and had a mooch, as you do. They had reductions on boxes of chocolates and I bought two large boxes of a mixed selection for £3 each, February dates, which I’m putting away for DS teachers for Christmas. They also had wrapping paper reduced from £2.50 to £1. I have in for birthdays etc. throughout the year.

I also managed to leave M&S without collecting my order and I’ll have to go back tomorrow 😫

@MrsLem I bought my sisters personalised necklaces last year from eBay. They have very original names and you’d never find them in a shop, this place was cheap - it was silver (I think, may have been plated). They loved them and delivery was quick, they came in a little chiffon, I think, bag with a ribbon. I can’t remember the name of the seller!! Buy have a look and you’ll likely find something.

@SophieTurnersEyebrows have a look at mountain warehouse or matalan for wellies. I got my DS some lovely quality wellies from matalan this week with furry insides for £10.

@MulberryPeony on right hand side mid screen little black tab says rewards join that :)

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 28/09/2019 20:24

Awww it wasn't anything for me in my parcel it was Harry Potter cards from Groupon. One of the boxes is a bit damaged but I am sure DS won't notice or care!

Flash40 gets 40% off everything at yumi yumi

CoffeeChocolateWine · 28/09/2019 20:29

Thanks @PaddingtonBearHardStare...just placed my order!

CatelynStark · 28/09/2019 20:31

@MulberryPeony I find them really useful when packing up little presents, as the bags stand by themselves so I can just label each bag, line them up in front of me and lob the presents in Grin

Then they can stack up in a cupboard so I don’t lose any little bits, only to find them in March

TalkingOrmer · 28/09/2019 20:39

@wibbletooth in Guernsey those towels are called “Guernsey wraps”. If you look for The Craft House on FB she makes lively wraps.

MrsLem · 28/09/2019 20:41

@daphine2004 thanks!

UrbanMage · 28/09/2019 20:57

Buckled and went with the peer pressure but of Dr Botanicals bars. Thought those plus a nice hand cream would make nice gifts for the TAs in Dd's class. And for my sister and her Mrs as they are very ethical and green. and two rose and rhubarb for me as it is the best scent ever

NotPennysBoat · 28/09/2019 21:06

Loving all the love and bargains on these threads!

I've got a couple of quite specific asks...

  • ceramic mugs with initials on them which are microwave and dishwasher safe. Not fussy on design but bargainous if possible! Spotted a few sale ones but only Q's and Z's left!
  • any recommendations for Fitbit imitations? It's for DD7 so don't want to spend too much and the strap needs to be adjustable for little wrists!
  • toddler boy gifts that look worth £20 but cost £10ish (long shot I realise!)
PurpleSock · 28/09/2019 21:15

Thanks Serenity25 just used it!

@NotPennysBoat how about an usborne busy book or wind up book? The rrp is £15-£20 but often on amazon for £10ish or other book sites.

Dd has a cheap £20 Fitbit type thing from amazon and it does the job.

totallyLosingIt · 28/09/2019 21:29

@Whitecandle I would recommend keeping an eye on gumtree and/or facebook marketplace, if you aren't already!

QOD · 28/09/2019 21:34

I’ve had the cashbaxk for the Lego advent 🙋🏻‍♀️

imsorryiasked · 28/09/2019 21:35

@MadameJosephine there is a separate thread for referral links, see first post of this thread for details.

UrbanMage · 28/09/2019 21:38

@NotPennysBoat have you tried Home Bargains. My not-so local one usually has things like that in.

imsorryiasked · 28/09/2019 21:41

@NotPennysBoat How about these or this for the toddler?

MadameJosephine · 28/09/2019 21:41

Oops thanks imsorryiasked I’ll post on there

SayNoToCarrots · 28/09/2019 21:42

B&M has stockings with embroidered initials on them - £2.99.

PhannyMcNee · 28/09/2019 21:42

I tried to do the TCB Lego calendar yesterday but nothing g on my TCB account yet - could that be because the calendar is on back order?
