Thread 5 - The Mumsnet bargain thread - spreading the squeaky clean, ethical love!

So it’s not a thread all about ethical stuff (good grief there’s a lot of plastic tat that’s been purchased by me from these threads over the years) but with our current obsession with soap bars and shampoo bars and then I think it was fireflygirl who did the quote and it tickled me.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Referral link here . Use this to post any links where you can refer a mner and you or both of you get an incentive. For ease and fairness please don’t post these on the main thread.

Thank you Itwaseverthus for the Olay/Superdrug tip. I also found the 3p shower moisturiser, but it wouldn't let me order it online. But, popped into the nearest store (10 miles away Blush) and got the day cream, night cream and radiance cream for £2 each + the free gift. Will make a lovely skin care hamper.
Also got the Diamonds perfume someone else noticed.
And!!! The Simple skin care is BOGOF, but counts for 2 of the 3 items for the free gift! DSis only uses Simple, so I picked up a couple of moisturisers for her + some shave balm for DH, and I'll have the free gift. Something for everyone Smile.

On a serious note, I then had to come home a different way, got to DD's nursery to see them all surprised I'd made it. There had been a serious accident on the road I usually take, and the road had been closed.

If I'd not gone to get Christmas bargains, I'd have had several hours delay. Sure there is a moral there...
(Although I am sorry for the people involved).

Thank you for the point out and discount code for the Vera Wang. I’ve stocked up on a few bottles to dish out.

Crackery · 03/10/2019 07:06

NoWordForFluffy · 03/10/2019 07:08

Free car cleaning kit with selected Shark vaccum cleaners & bundles at AO

Not sure how they compare price wise, but worth looking if you need a vaccum. Doesn't mention a code

I have a couple of days off from this thread (waiting to be paid so avoiding temptation) and I miss nearly the entire thread!

Not particularly bargainous, but a suggestion for hard-to-buy-for people is an unicycle. Just bought my kid one for his birthday.! unicycle.co.uk have them from age 3 up, with a measuring guide so you know what size to get. And I bought his from amazon, so not hard to get of.

LazyDaisey · 03/10/2019 07:38

@NoWordForFluffy I’ve been on these threads under various ages for years and I hate the referral posts - enough of us moaned about it so that there’s a dedicated thread to them. But someone always tries to post here to “stand out” Hmm

NoWordForFluffy · 03/10/2019 07:41

It's not the referral ones she's talking about. It's the affiliate links that generate 2p or whatever to someone when clicked on.

It was the blatant lie 'it's mentioned on all threads and is an issue' which got me as much as the nannying tone of the post, treating us like kids. I don't like liars. Especially when they're lying to prove an erroneous point!

NoWordForFluffy · 03/10/2019 07:48

And yeah, it's trivial, I know. Xmas Blush But why come on a nice thread to make an issue out of a non-issue and then bloody lie to support your - erroneous - stance (which was proven erroneous in the first thread when it was raised by somebody coming onto the thread especially to raise it, like last night) when everyone said they didn't have a shit (the first thread can still be read to show I'm not lying!).

Anyway, that's all I'm going to say on the matter now, as it's been derailed enough. Sorry!

imsorryiasked · 03/10/2019 07:56

Can't remember who was after sparkle Doc Martens but I think they've stopped doing the junior sizes. However Tower London have the hot pink patent ones for £40 if that helps? Usually a10% student code floating about too.

Whitecandle · 03/10/2019 07:57

Wow just caught up on all this referral/affiliate link crap.

I get that if everyone posted all their referral links on here it would clog the feed up and we'd have to have a new one more often.
Also get that we've been told that we aren't to post affiliate links not that I know how anyway

But really, I don't mind if someone earned money from my purchase, as long as I don't get charged more. What's the problem?!

Just let people be, no one needs to police the thread. We aren't children who need supervising. It's just a forum - we don't even know each other in real life.

Literally bigger world problems.

🎄🎅🏻

Mrsmadevans · 03/10/2019 07:59

Well said White 👏

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 03/10/2019 08:00

@Creambeforejam I wonder why Dr Botanicals emailed me (twice!) with that code if it's only valid in America?! Sorry anyone who tried it!!

They've emailed me with an offer to try another product but I am trying to resist but it is still in my inbox

Creambeforejam · 03/10/2019 08:16

That is quite alright. Thank you for sharing though. X

HelloSweetlings · 03/10/2019 08:23

This is getting a bit much now Fluffy I don't want to derail but I have a right to defend myself. Read my previous posts, you're getting the wrong end of the stick, I thought it was pretty clear I was talking about referrals not affiliate / tracked links.

All I said was please remember there's a referral thread for those types of posts - for cox & co, Gousto, Freddie's flowers etc etc and asked for them not to be posted here. Nothing to do with affiliate links. I've since been accused of "bitch plopping" not being part of the gang and blatant lying. It's fucking school ground bullying mentality and there's no need for it here 🎄

Whitecandle · 03/10/2019 08:28

@HelloSweetlings I'm not having a go - somewhat because I don't care about that's on here and what's not but what's getting Fluffys back up is the fact you've come on to tell us not to do something, I think.

What difference does it make to you? We don't need someone telling us not to do something. If it was Mumsnet saying it's now allowed etc fine, as that's what they're there for, but not a fellow Mumsnetter who's actually on here just for some bargains, like the rest of us. Seems higher hierarchical and I think that's what people don't like.

As I said above, not having a go, because I really don't care, but just giving my point trying to defuse.

Let's all just leave it otherwise it's going to cause a huge atmosphere and no one will want to post on here x

Courtney555 · 03/10/2019 08:50

Haven't been on MN for years, used the first bargainous threads way back when, and returned this year for this one... I need to know about the cookie jar fight Grin

Also, did anyone order the "Dobby is free" socks from this year (first/second thread) and actually received them? Mine have been "delayed" and not looking like they're coming...

Duckyneedsaclean · 03/10/2019 08:51

Yes Bebe have the new Lanka Kade Christmas figures in stock, I've got some for stocking fillers/advent calendars. There's 10% off with code FAM10 too!

Duckyneedsaclean · 03/10/2019 08:52

Though you have to spend £25 for free delivery.. Which I managed quite easily 😬😳

MrsLem · 03/10/2019 08:58

@Duckyneedsaclean the Christmas ones are out of stock! You must have got the last ones Wink

Shakespearesglobe · 03/10/2019 09:00

Does anyone by any chance have a discount code for the Cotswold company? One posted earlier in the thread no longer works. Gutted that I delayed ordering by a day or so! Thanks in advance! X

Nike have 40% off and a further 20% off with OCT20

I just got some good items for my teenages

ScarlettDarling · 03/10/2019 09:02

@HelloSweetlings it was clear imo that you were talking about referrals and just reminding people that there's a referrals thread. I didn't feel like you were being thread police! Don't know why anyone is jumping on you for this, it's a total overreaction.

Anyway, I got really excited when Superdrug allowed me to put 3 of the 3p moisturisers in mtpy basket as well as the £2 Olay ...got all the way to delivery before they announced they were out of stock. Grrr! Angry

CamdenTownie · 03/10/2019 09:04

Anyone seen a reasonably priced nativity set - I'm looking for some we can keep and use every year.

Jammiebammie · 03/10/2019 09:05

@wornoutboots thanks for the unicycle suggestion, I’m thinking of getting one for my wee dad - trying to work out if it would be the best idea ever.. or the worst (he’s late 70s) Grin

@ScarlettDarling it’s definitely the green box 14+ scrawl that we have too, hope you have fun playing it!

I’m getting increasingly annoyed at Asos and my stolen advent calendar, I sent them photos a week ago and they still haven’t done anything. I emailed to see what was happening and was just told that they are investigating, an update would have been nice. It’s putting me off ordering the other things I have in my basket.

Dd2 asked for a Balenciaga hoody... looked at the prices and they are £675 😱 she’s not even 13 yet!!!!! She said her friend has one but looking at the photos it’s a fake one.. dd can jog on! Tbf when I told her the price she was shocked too lol.
