Thread 5 - The Mumsnet bargain thread - spreading the squeaky clean, ethical love!

Reastie · 28/09/2019 08:29

So it’s not a thread all about ethical stuff (good grief there’s a lot of plastic tat that’s been purchased by me from these threads over the years) but with our current obsession with soap bars and shampoo bars and then I think it was fireflygirl who did the quote and it tickled me.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Referral link here . Use this to post any links where you can refer a mner and you or both of you get an incentive. For ease and fairness please don’t post these on the main thread.

@recklessgran I agree with other posters about the ikea train tracks, cheap and simple so you can buy plenty of it, tough too, my boys gave it some heavy use and it stood up well. Its compatible with brio and I would have bought specialised brio pieces individually off e bay to extend and upgrade the basic ikea track.

CupCupGoose · 02/10/2019 21:01

Oh I hate being charged for click and collect too! Sports direct charge 4.99, what a rip off!

HelloSweetlings · 02/10/2019 21:04

Wow Fluffy, did you mean to be so rude? Ever heard of a namechange?

It's discussed on every thread, usually In reference to tracked links (which Mumsnet add in many cases) nothing to do with referrals which has a separate thread to stop this getting spammed with referrals... imagine if everyone posted referrals here too, it's hard enough to keep up with as it stands

LikeSilver · 02/10/2019 21:05

For those after Doc Martens, I can offer a unidays code for Office or Schuh if that’s any use? I think it’s 20% for both at the moment.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 21:05

Pink, is there a Paperchase in the city centre? I'm trying to think if I've seen it or not (I rarely go somewhere new though...Home Bargains, Wilko, Marks, Superdrug, Tesco and John Lewis are on my circuit at lunch!).

SquintEastwood · 02/10/2019 21:07

Lego Annual 2020 - £1.99 at the entertainer on C&C.

Armani Diamonds 100ml EDP - £35 at Superdrug.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 21:07

No it's bloody not, HelloSweetlings. It really isn't. Somebody (possibly you) raised it on an early thread and nobody has moaned since.

And yes, I did mean to be so rude, as you're creating an issue where there really isn't one. We all said we didn't care the last time it was raised.

Please drop it.

SandraOhshair · 02/10/2019 21:09

@CoffeeAndEnnui thanks for the lego. Looks fab and a great price.

PinkDaydreams · 02/10/2019 21:11

@NoWordForFluffy it’s in Liverpool One, ground floor, near to Monsoon and Card Factory. To be honest I forgot it was there till I walked past it the other week. It seem to look a little hidden between the other shops!

daphine2004 · 02/10/2019 21:15

@SaveMeFromMrTumblebwevw just bought a refurbished one from music magpie in pristine condition for £184 including delivery. Just frees up some cash for games and a headset.

My iPhone SE broke and you can’t get them anymore so bought one of those in August, which is how I come to notice the games consoles.

fluffy I'm not quite sure why you're targeting so much vitriol at me. I was trying to help keep the thread to what it's intended for, as in the opening post. The irony of calling me out for policing posts seems to be lost considering you feel you're speaking for the whole 'group'

As for not being involved, for the record I've been on these Xmas posts for years I even made the thread title during one memorable year *wipes eyes with nostalgia

SleeptightDaisy · 02/10/2019 21:26

The paperchase code worked on my basket but I only ordered from the sale. Knocked 50% off the total

Bryna · 02/10/2019 21:31

@recklessgran It may be worth waiting for Lidl to bring out their wooden train sets, closer to Christmas, they do some fab sets. I got my DS a set one year around the world with an Eskimo, and igloo, an Aztec mountain and an Inca and a Japanese style garden, (all simply done)

GorkyMcPorky · 02/10/2019 21:32

Wow @NoWordForFluffy you're way out of order (but as a non-regular I'm probably not supposed to point this out).

Bryna · 02/10/2019 21:33

I found a photo!

Thread 5 - The Mumsnet bargain thread - spreading the squeaky clean, ethical love!
NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 21:33

It's not vitriol, I'm stating a fact that other than on the first or second thread it hasn't been raised as an issue and everyone bar the person who raised it said they didn't care. I'm stating a fact. If you'd read every thread this year you'd know it's a fact.

I'm annoyed at you raising a non-issue as an issue on a thread quite happily cantering along and claiming it's an issue on every thread. Which is a blatant lie.

Anyway, I'm done now. You've made your point.

wibbletooth · 02/10/2019 21:36

@recklessgran as others have said if you buy decent brio compatible stuff (Ikea, mothercare, Sainsbury’s etc) then they work well together.

However keep an eye on tk maxx as they have some fab bargains on Brio - interesting trains, great stations, funky junctions etc

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 21:38

Amazon and eBay often reduce BigJigs' stuff to a decent price. And, actually, BigJigs' own website has some cracking sales. I've had some really good accessories for our (breeding, I swear!) wooden track.

John Lewis has some lovely, well-priced, stuff too.
