Happy Rudolph Day

Huh, I misremembered, that thread is about stocking fillers, not things for Advent calendars. The compartments in the ones I did for DGCs last year are tiny. Difficult, apart from chocolate!

buckeejit · 11/10/2019 12:55

@Bloodybridget - our advent for dc tends to have little jobs or written activities that we'll do & they love it. Takes quite a bit of organising what days we can do something fun & what days we're reduced to a Christmas colouring in or a chocolate!

Bloodybridget · 11/10/2019 13:28

Thanks buckeejit, that's a lovely idea, but we don't live with DGCs, or anywhere near two of them - I could do "vouchers" for something to do next time they stay with us though, that would be good!

I’ve made a start on my knitted Christmas wreath. Very excited but it will probably take me a very long time!

Princess i made quilted wreaths two years ago but this year I am going to experiment with using kids tights to get a knitted one!

princessbear80 · 11/10/2019 17:44

Wow thenewaverage that one looks great.

Trumpton · 14/10/2019 08:16

Ordered Paperwhite narcissi to grown on pebbles in hurricane lamps .
Last years didn’t work very well for the first time ever and I was very sad .
I generally start them going on November 5th and they bloom over Christmas .
Changing the water for 1 to7 ratio gin or vodka to water helps stunt the greenery so they don’t flop whilst still not affecting the flowers .
( Cornell university did the initial research) .

livingthegoodlife · 14/10/2019 08:58

@Trumpton they look amazing. I'd love to give these a go. Please could you explain a bit more about what to do / direct me to a web page. They'd make lovely presents.

Trumpton · 14/10/2019 11:30

That’s a good article to start from . The alcohol related article is HERE .
It’s a hard bloody life when your plant bulbs get more gin than you do !
I am having a dry time before an operation . Sad

livingthegoodlife · 14/10/2019 12:07

Brilliant, thank you. I'll give these a go I think I never know what to get MIL so these should be perfect!

likeridingabike · 14/10/2019 13:37

I'm off work today so I've got a big pan of Apple Cider Chutney on the stove to kick off festive preparations. We're having Christmas Day at home for the first time ever (long story) and I'm very excited.

Slaymill · 14/10/2019 18:17

Hi all I need your collective help. I'm looking for some poncetastic christmas cards for the local hob knobs. I thinking of trimming the cards with twine and a festive sprig. Hopefully this is not too outing but, our village delivers cards by a horse realone and elves kidsdressedup

Your Apple Chutney sounds delicious @likeridingabike.

lettersbyowl · 14/10/2019 19:26

Ohhh can I join please?? I've made marmalade, red onion and sloe gin chutney, rosehip syrup, and hedgerow gin already for my hampers! And started cross stitching some sweet cards... which I may never finish Grin cannot wait to make my cake and start filling the freezer with loveliness, and obsessively searching for PERFECT pine cones to spray gold for my table settings!!!

Slaymill · 16/10/2019 14:52

I'm liking this lucyludreams.com/2019/05/02/christmas-tree-place-card-decorations-tutorial/tree

Also has anyone seen soft fir tree embellishments for tying onto presents ?

Trumpton · 16/10/2019 15:04

M&S have very pretty little jars in a set of 3 . Each with one narcissi bulb set on gold clippings .
I don't need them but oh so pretty !

Trumpton · 16/10/2019 15:05

Chippings

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/10/2019 20:16

They sound lovely Trumpton. I can't find them on the website but hopefully I'll find them in store.

I made my Christmas cakes this afternoon and a jar of mincemeat. Now I'm taste testing some blood orange flavoured gin that I made a few months ago - it's lovely with some M&S cranberry lemonade.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/10/2019 20:25

Posted too soon.

Can anyone recommend an online supplier for velvet? I'm utterly bamboozled by the choice so I'm not even sure what I'm looking for. Last year when I was putting the Christmas decorations away I dismantled the angel from the top of the tree as it was looking very tatty. I want it to look a bit like the photo below. I've got some patterned fabric for the underskirt and bought some wine coloured duchesse satin for the overskirt, but I think I want scarlet velvet instead.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/10/2019 21:10

The photo would help 🤦🏻‍♀️

Trumpton · 16/10/2019 21:28

Have you tried www.fabricland.co.uk/product/crushed-velvet-fabric/
Amazing website and smashing people .
You might not need a metre though !

Oooh ! Fat quarters on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Premium-Velvet-Gloss-Finish-Fabric-2-Way-Stretch-60-for-Soft-Furnishing-Dress/153519615401?hash=item23be7b6da9:m:mLeEHKIPwvl9YVItq_99ZYw&var=453506884366 £1.25 with free postage !

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/10/2019 21:53

Thank you @Trumpton I've ordered a fat quarter from the eBay seller.

Bloodybridget · 16/10/2019 23:03

TheWoollybacksWife I'd love to have an OTT tree fairy like the one in your photo! I wonder if one can buy a nekkid fairy to dress?? Will Google!

Slaymill · 17/10/2019 10:28

Thanks for the warm welcome Hmm

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/10/2019 12:58

Feeling inspired by the eco-friendly Christmas thread I'm thinking of making foodie gifts for some, @likeridingabike your apple cider chutney sounds amazing, any chance of a recipe?
