Happy Rudolph Day

@TheWoollybacksWife I do! I'm currently trying to work out what tool I would need to punch holes in cards to have a go at these...

I would like a nice table, it's always a plastic cloth to protect it (glass, stupid choice in hindsight!) & our usual place settings so maybe that's a good place to start!

That's sweet. I'd print one off and do the decoration in coloured felt tip first. Then use it as a sewing guide and poke holes with a thick needle. You'll need a hole at the top and bottom of each zigzag and the top and bottom of each cross - basically any where you will need your thread to change direction.

Outtheforest · 31/10/2019 11:34

@NoWordForFluffy those are beautiful, do you remember the designer of the first one? Wondering if they have some patterns only online I can convert into card size pieces.
Currently failing to find cards with cut out sections and my attempt to DIY with scissors was a disaster so need to rethink that one.
So far I've only made 1 cross stitch anyway, need at least 5 more by December for international postage Blush

@Outtheforest try searching for Aperture Cards. Assuming you are in the UK they have them in The Range and you would probably get them in The Works and definitely in Hobbycraft.

Outtheforest · 31/10/2019 11:50

@TheWoollybacksWife I knew they had a name, thankyou! Sadly not in the UK but now I know the name i might have more luck

NoWordForFluffy · 31/10/2019 12:53

@Outtheforest, the one I'm still doing is Riverdrift House. The long sampler is Little Doves Design.

Hello, I've got some of the Hairy biker Christmas pudding vodka on the go just now, swapped a third of the vodka for brandy to make it more a Christmas spirit like I saw on one of the other recipes posted up the board, but I'm looking for little bottles to put it in to give out as pressies, has any one any ideas?

I love the look of those knitted wreaths, wonder if I've time to get one of them done? And where would I put it!?

I made some Christmas wreath decorations to hang up along the fireplace, not sure I really like them but I think they'll look alright if I sew some little baubles on them..

Trumpton · 01/11/2019 07:08

@jingscrivvens

I bought THESE BOOZE BALLS

To put give away alcohol in . Free postage and a lovely company to deal with.
I also asked a local venue to save me empty miniature bottles and put my own labels on them .

Trumpton · 01/11/2019 07:27

These.

Ooh Trumpton, they are gorgeous! Thank you!

And also leaves some of the booze for me.. Wink

Ok, so, today I have acquired some silver-grey fabric, in the form of a plus sized dress that has been lurking in the dress shop I help out at for years. There is most definitely enough of it for a table runner for my dining table, but I am likely to have a centre seam that could do with disguising somehow. It's a lovely shade so I would like to use it along with sparkly accessories, just not sure what to do abour the seam. Unless, maybe I could add applique trees, or snowflakes, or something along those lines fairly evenly spaced. Or maybe beads - sort of in 3 sections so it's even & the centre section would be where condiments or a fancy table display would go anyway...(was helpful to write that down & see where I'm going with this Blush ).

I'll see what I can find tomorrow while I'm there - there are bound to be beads about the place!

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/11/2019 21:18

What about something like this sewn down the centre seam - it's from eBay. I would think that perhaps you couldn't embellish it with something that sits too high as it might make an uneven surface for anything placed on top.

lucysmam · 01/11/2019 21:48

Ooh, that's pretty Woolly, I'll have a look on ebay! There's definitely nothing like that at the shop.

I got my backside in gear & wrote a list of cake ingredients today too; we didn't have one last year but I do like a slice of Christmas cake with my cheeseboard (even though the girls look like Hmm at me!).

Must think about dd2's birthday too (28th Dec). She likes the tree etc left up but that's about as far as I've got.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 03/11/2019 22:07

Got around to formalising Christmas Day arrangements with my family today, and we're hosting. I'm so excited!

I was thinking of making a tiramisu for after lunch, does anyone have any recommended recipes?

EgremontRusset · 04/11/2019 20:21

Tiramisu sounds great! I like bbc good food recipe but use random liqueurs/cakes etc.

Speaking of puddings, we will be 6-10 on Xmas eve and I’m going to do roast salmon with a sharp potato salad. Any suggestions for pudding after that?

EgremontRusset · 04/11/2019 20:22

Ideally something from Cook tbh! www.cookfood.net/menu/entertaining/puddings

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 04/11/2019 22:24

@EgremontRusset tiramisu?? Grin actually the first thing I thought of was pavlova, or maybe cheesecake?

EgremontRusset · 05/11/2019 07:11

Pavlova or cheesecake both sound good - some acidity and fruit to offset the salmon

NerosFiddle · 05/11/2019 12:23

I'm doing the traditional triffle and then something like a Black Forrest Gateaux.

Made my mini Christmas cakes today, they are so cute!
I used a bbc recipe, 1kg fruit and made 11 little tuna Tin cakes. Unfortunately one has broken taking it out!

They will do some family gifts and some teachers gifts
