Mrsmadevans · 19/09/2019 18:03

Wreck go for it m'dear , your attendance record is brilliant go for it Flowers

Mrsmadevans · 19/09/2019 18:11

Not just that you are obvs very conscientious , give it a go , if not you may regret it m'dear Smile

CrazyBaubles · 19/09/2019 18:27

I've just caught up on the thread - it's so busy!

Woolly I wanted to ask about your blocking / starching crochet / knitted things. My starch spray says I need to iron them after they're sprayed - do you do that? I'm a bit scared they'll get ruined.

Sorry for your losses MrsMad and Neros

I must remember to go to Booths if there is one near MIL (she's in Yorkshire). I always forget to check 🙄

I checked my stash yesterday - I don't need cards or wrapping paper but I should use everything I've got this year so next year I plan to buy a few meters of different fabric and use that to wrap.

Wreck I've thought that about a few jobs but someone who's been sort of mentoring me (a man) said he doesn't think that's ever occurred to him when applying for promotions - he just figures he's a smart, capable man and he will learn what he doesn't know when he's got the job - I've done the same once or twice and it's been great!

I've been trying to work out how long I've been here - 3 or 4 years I think.

It is such a lovely thread. Thank you MrsMad for posting about infertility. It's such a hard thing to say without sounding like you don't want people to be excited about their babies, which of course isn't the case, but it can he very difficult to get excited about Christmas without comparing yourself / your life without dc to this with them.
So an extra thank you from me for giving it some consideration - but please don't stop talking about them altogether because that would be terrible!

NoWordForFluffy · 19/09/2019 18:33

Crazy, where in Yorkshire is she? Here's the store finder for you!

Go for the job, Wreck. Nothing to lose, everything to gain!

Neros, how awful. 46 is no age, is it? 😢

I will apply for it. Have a friend who does the same role elsewhere so IF I got it (which I doubt I will) I can always call on her for help!

Mrsmadevans · 19/09/2019 18:36

Crazy , we all stick together Smile

Mrsmadevans · 19/09/2019 18:38

Good girl Wreck ! Smile

Ddog1 has been howling for some random reason and now I'm struggling to get back to sleep, not helped by it being so hot in my house

😴😴😴

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2019 06:27

Morning!

I hope you got back to sleep, Crazy.

I have a lump on my right eyelid. I think I was bitten last night, just before bed. I've typically got two client meetings today too. Never mind! It's not itchy, but it's annoying!

FireflyGirl · 20/09/2019 07:37

Morning all.

We had a glorious sunset last night, and it looks like it'll be another beautiful day today.

It's hard to believe how warm it gets when it's so chilly in a morning! My office at work is North-facing, so I have to put the heating on when I first get in, and then after lunch when I've been for a walk I have to open the windows!

Hope your eye is doing better, Fluffy, and your meetings go okay.

When are you speaking with them about changing your hours?

Now DS is at school, I've changed my hours as well. I start at 9.30 every day, and finish at 3.00 three days a week, so same hours total but I can do the school run which seems to be working well for us. I realised the other day that the only person in my department of 10 (including paralegals) who doesn't work some form of flexible hours is the head of the department. And half of the secretaries job share.

CrazyBaubles · 20/09/2019 08:03

Definite zombie bench for me - I think I managed 5 broken hours sleep 😴

When I got up at 6 it was really dark which was lovely but cold. Like you Firefly the heating is on in work in the morning then air con in the afternoon 🙄

My dream is to work part time one day - I'd love to do 3 / 3.5 days but it's not feasible for a few years unfortunately.

I'm going to watch the Downton film with dm tomorrow. Has anyone seen it? I'm quite excited, I loved the series.

WreckTangled · 20/09/2019 08:07

I currently do mon-thurs 9-3 term time only. Pretty cushty but no money Grin

FireflyGirl · 20/09/2019 08:26

That's the downside, isn't it Wreck Grin

I work the equivalent of 4 days, Crazy. Realistically, I couldn't do my job just being in 3/3.5 days. My boss was actually all for me changing my hours because it means I'm in the office every day.

I never used to watch Downton, and couldn't tell you the last time I went to pictures, so I'm not really the person to ask about the film Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2019 08:34

I can't afford to do part time. I can't even really drop 2 hours, which I've considered. One day!

I need to have my formal end of probation meeting first, Firefly. No clue when that's happening, sadly.

I work full time term time only. It's crazy hectic during term and then really laid back in the holidays Grin

CarysRed · 20/09/2019 10:19

Morning,

It’s cold here but meant to heat up. Tomorrow is meant to be 24 degrees, starting to get a bit bored of the heat now. I want some cold autumn nights. Apparently we’re meant to have another arctic blast this winter though, so I shall keep my fingers crossed.

Crazy I saw it on the weekend, I loved it!.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2019 14:17

My eye hurts. And is lumpy. And I've got two client meetings starting soon. 😢😢

Ah well. An excuse for medicinal alcohol if ever there was one!

WreckTangled · 20/09/2019 15:55

The job I'm going to apply for only wants a CV. No cover letter or explaining how you meet all the essential criteria etcConfused it's going to be tricky to get how wonderful I am across in just a cv Grin (you apply online and that's all they allow to be uploaded)

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2019 17:22

Do a personal profile on your CV. As long as it's 2 pages or fewer it's fine!

OP posts:
BiddyPop · 20/09/2019 18:26

I am just about finished application 1 - I need to revise (and shorten by 200 words) 1 section but it’s mostly there. New boss wrote glowing recommendation Blush. Now just need to finish over weekend and hand in on monday before starting #2.

Christmas.....very back seat right now! (And most of you know what that means to a Christmas nut like me!).

Good news though - I am traveling on Rudolph Day next week and will look for some different stocking bits on that trip (new city for me)!

BiddyPop · 20/09/2019 18:26

I hope you’re all doing ok too

CarysRed · 20/09/2019 19:01

Fluffy hows your eye doing now? This stuff always happens when you’ve got something planned doesn’t it!

Wreck that’s naff, is there anyway you can include some of it in your CV?

Biddy I hope you manage to finish it as quickly as ya can. I hate writing applications because it takes me ages.

It’s a beautiful sunny evening here, the neighbours are in the garden with their DC. I can’t believe it’s this warm and it’s almost October.

WreckTangled · 20/09/2019 19:11

I think I can get most stuff into it under my past employment hopefully. I can also get a guaranteed interview under the equality act so if I can prove I meet the essential criteria I should at least get to meet them. I think someone I used to work with works there too... not that they'll have any say on it.

Biddy that sounds stressful!

Fluffy are you sure it's a bite? You might need to get it checked out. I can only afford to work part time because we're in a housing association house Blush we live in the south east and it would be impossible for us to rent privately or ever buy

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2019 19:16

I've not looked since lunch as I've not had time. I'll look in a bit! And, no, not sure it's a bite. The eye itself is fine, but not the lid. I'll see how it is tomorrow and go to the chemist if it's still bad.

It's probably my eye trying to tell me to get more sleep! Apparently they get infections if you're knackered so you close your eyes. Clever!

It's been lovely today. Getting dark now though.
