Afternoon!

In the absence of @SideOrderofChips (I hope you don't mind me jumping in, Chips Flowers ), here's the first bargain prequel thread of this year.

Use this thread to post any bargains you may have until @Reastie comes back in a few months' time! Xmas Grin

We're just putting coins in our advent calendar. Sick of plastic tat here!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 06/08/2019 10:47

@MildDrPepperAddiction I can ask DH tonight if you like? That's his thing.

Does DS have someone to play with?

MildDrPepperAddiction · 06/08/2019 11:07

That would be great, thanks. I'm not clued up on D&D at all!

MildDrPepperAddiction · 06/08/2019 11:09

@TakeMeToYourLiar, he has friends in our street that are all into similar stuff. Plus, I have a feeling once DH get's the hang of it he'll be hooked too!

Ewock · 06/08/2019 11:46

Fantastic thanks 101Robin

Fubbs · 06/08/2019 12:13

Just ordered some pine tea, some other teas fell into the basket too! Can't wait to have a cuppa on Christmas Day now Smile.

Wait4nothing · 06/08/2019 12:30

Oh I like the idea of coins in the advent calendar. Dd had lots of stickers and hair bobbles. But she also got some tsumtsum mini figures which have worked great for the change bag to take emergency toys.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 06/08/2019 12:39

I’ll ask DH then :)

Thanks for advent calendar ideas

TakeMeToYourLiar · 06/08/2019 13:11

Ok so DH says this is a good price for a starter set at amazon

And he will also need a set of dice like these

Alternatively the board game is good as it doesn't rely on friends having the book, and it has figures you can use in the real game here

DH thinks he may also enjoy warhammer where you can paint your own figures for battles. If you want any advice on that give me a shout. I have sideboards covered in the stuff!

FannyFeatures · 06/08/2019 13:35

@TakeMeToYourLiar - when my DS was younger we tried to have a different "theme" each year to make filling it easier.

Unfortunately Thankfully when he was 10 he said he'd rather just have a plain advent calendar like every one else and DD likes to have the same as him so we don't need to bother anymore, I do miss it now!

Anyway, I digress - popular ones were:
Moshi monsters (eBay)
Sticker book on 1st December with a sticker each day
Jigsaw split into a piece a day

gotmychocolateimgood · 06/08/2019 14:17

I don't like the plastic waste of chocolate advent calendars. Jigsaw pieces is a good idea.

Someaddedsugar · 06/08/2019 15:24

Does anyone know a good place to buy blind bags for Cars and Toy Story that I can use for DS's advent calendar? I've seen on eBay that you can buy them opened so that you definitely don't get duplicates, but they seem so expensive. I've looked in our local sainsburys and they have other blind bags but not these ones.

Also, does anyone know if there's some kind of stamp on the packaging that might differentiate between the contents (just thinking about shops rather than online)?

imnotalpharius · 06/08/2019 16:41

@MildDrPepperAddiction if some of his friends are playing it's important to know what edition they are playing so it's compatible. Currently it's 5th edition, but if the friends have been playing a while or have inherited stuff it might be different, eg I'm playing 2nd ed tonight and it's not a compatible system.

Dice however are a universal (and addictive) languageGrin A dice tin might make a good stocking filler.

imsorryiasked · 06/08/2019 17:45

@Someaddedsugar toysforapound sell alia different blind bags for £1. However if you just want small cars etc they do a pack of four for £1 or 12 micro cars for £2 here

MildDrPepperAddiction · 06/08/2019 18:38

Thanks so much @TakeMeToTourLiar and your dh. I appreciate it 😊

Someaddedsugar · 06/08/2019 18:51

Thanks @imsorryiasked! That site’s amazing!

EvilHerbivore · 06/08/2019 18:55

@Someaddedsugar not sure this will be useful if you want the metal cars but have you looked at squinkies? They're tiny little rubber models (and other types available for anyone else thinking of making your own) and they're brilliant for advent calendars
DS1 loved his and played with them loads

@EvilHerbivore I’ve never seen those before - they look really good! Will definitely be getting some of those!

EvilHerbivore · 06/08/2019 19:14

@Someaddedsugar I just had a look on eBay (don't know how you feel about second hand) and there's bundles of both Cars and Toy Story ones on there for £5-£8 each

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 06/08/2019 20:09

just to add to advent calendar ideas that I've done for DD's
shopkins/Moshi monster/retro kinder egg toys each bought in a bundle from eBay.
Lego mini figures or parts to build a set.
1st day a small treasure box then each day diamond's/coloured stones for treasure to add to it. my dd loves stones (and so do the children in the preschool I work at!)

But their favourite is a joke in each day, Google has plenty of festive ones and write out on pieces of card :)

this year will be a mix of lol dolls for dd2, harry potter funko mini figures for dd1 and then chocolates/small stationary for in between days as they cost much more than previous years! might even leave notes for activities to do on some days.

bargains at the moment I've noticed in store.

Poundland has pom pom lol keyrings. plus Le toy van dolls house figures (knights, builder, fairy, Spanish lady and a few more I've forgotten).
smiggle has additional 30% off sale prices I got initial keyrings for £1 each for stockings.
build a bear has £10 gift card for £5 when you spend £25. there are 2 new Pokemon coming out at the end of the month and they are going to be amazing!!!
tkmaxx has sylvannian stuff reasonably priced, some lol stuff - drinks cup for £1.99, dominoes for £3.99 and lots of hair/jewellery/craft sets.
hmv had some funko pops reduced - gears of war, trollhunters and some others were only £1.99 each.

Someaddedsugar · 06/08/2019 20:50

Thanks @EvilHerbivore - more than happy to have second hand so will take a look!

Someaddedsugar · 06/08/2019 20:54

Th Entertainer had some bargains today when I was browsing - Happyland figure sets all reduced by around 20%, a lot of Finding Dory bits and pieces including this Dory toy for £4.99 reduced from £49.99.

Someaddedsugar · 06/08/2019 20:56

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts I like the idea of including an activity in an advent calendar, especially for on a weekend to make an occasion of it.

SmallAndFarAway · 06/08/2019 21:00

Thanks for the Polly Pocket link - I used to love them!
