Am I okay to join this thread? Have been lurking for a while but didn’t join earlier as things always got in the way! Have been on MN for a few years on the ttc and infertily boards. This seems like a lovely thread for general chit chat and as I also love Christmas I thought I’d take the plunge to join.

I’m currently pregnant with dc2. We have a 6 year old DD and it took 3 + years to conceive her and also took 3 years with current pregnancy. Not sure what the deal is with the 3 year thing but seems we have a theme going on! Just putting this here as I read someone on here was struggling and just wanted to say I can understand as I’ve had similar struggles myself.

Things move so fast on here but I’ll do my best to keep up. Currently enjoying and making the most of the remaining break before DD goes back to school and me back to work next week.

WheelchairWoes · 02/01/2019 19:52

psb That sounds awesome! I hope you are enjoying your time without the kids!

Dizzy Welcome to the thread! Don't worry about not keeping up. I just can because I'm trying to keep myself distracted so hanging out on the computer all day haha.

I've decided to start my crafting now for gifts for Christmas this year haha. So I've got my cross stitch hoop and fabric ready.

It's another cloudy day. No rain just no sun and overcast and very gray.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/01/2019 20:03

Hi Dizzy, welcome!

And that's OK, Bertie; no hard feelings. 😁

We have a green bin for garden waste (collect Mar - Nov), a grey bin for landfill and a brown bin for recycling (paper, card, plastic, glass, cans). We have a food waste caddy too.

The grey and brown bins alternate each week and the green bin is every 3 weeks during the months they collect. The food caddy is on the same day as the brown bin, but a different truck.

We rarely fill our grey bin (that was rather different when we had 2 in nappies!).

We have 13 months and 1 day between our two. It's madness and brilliant all at once (Nero has the same gap, but mine are a fair bit older than hers, so she's properly in argghhh territory right now!).

My parents have a whole range of bags, bins and boxes for their waste / recycling. It's baffling!

NerosFiddle · 02/01/2019 20:15

This thread is going to be filled up in no time.

Yeah Fluffy my two are 13 and a half months apart. So like yours were my landfill (black bin) is fit for bursting with nappies. DS is showing signs of wanting to be potty trained, but I'm trying to hold out until the better weather.

Wheels I'm in Northern Ireland. Although, Co. Monaghan is in the Republic of Ireland. It can be confusing because Monaghan is in Ulster and there's 9 counties in Ulster. 6 counties are in Northern Ireland and 3 are in the Republic.

Seafoodeatit · 02/01/2019 20:24

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks of it like that, DH says it's what they do at christmas. I said I'd leave it to DH this year and I did for his siblings but I still wanted his parents to get something nice as DH would leave it to the last minute, and what do I get? one of those plastic folding shopping bags they have by the tills, a really naff bottle opener (great for the pregnant lady..) a kids pen and a tiny compact mirror thingy that looks like came from a cracker. All wrapped individually so I had to keep opening it in-front of my family whilst trying to not to look increasingly awkward. We get a lot of 'joint' presents too for things which everyone knows I don't like, after 8 years of marriage you'd think I wouldn't care anymore.

Philomena that's awful! did you call them out?

fluffy your job sounds like good fun albeit stressful, I used to work at a law courts and would sit in on the cases during my lunch break, the court usher was a nice old man who always came to get me when an interesting case was on Grin.

wheels I love the sound of a childrens museum :)

Rubbish is put out on the pavement, if it's not they don't collect it even it's like half a foot away, they won't take any black bags and will fine you if the lid doesn't shut. They collect household waste every 2 weeks (we have 2 in nappies so qualify for the bigger bin although once baby is here we'll be able to keep it permanently due to being 6+ people, living the dream! Grin ) and recycling is taken once a week. I'm envious of areas that have separate recycling bins for glass, paper etc we have two - one of glass and paper and cans and plastic, or something like that.

Dizzy Welcome! don't worry about keeping up just see how it goes.

Fluffy we have 5 years and 8 months between DS1 and DD1, 12 months and 2 weeks between DD1 & DS2 and it'll be around 1 year and 7 months for DS2 and DC4. I've learnt to be much more laid back/have lower standards and go from there really. I wish DC2 & DC3 were twins sometimes as we get asked often enough if they are!

We need to sort out our green bin, it's stuck in the garden and too heavy to budge and full of soil which I didn't realise wasn't allowed so we're hiring a small company to empty to it, as I've been saying for the past year or so....

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/01/2019 20:25

Lots of MNing Wheelie! It's not that different, I didn't have to wait ages for DS2 to put pyjamas on before supper, DD isn't sitting in the corner of our room drawing, but otherwise pretty much the same. I'll be able to go shopping in the morning tomorrow instead of having to wait for DH to get back. Xmas Grin

CrazyBaubles · 02/01/2019 20:43

Wheels Similar to MrsMad (although she's the next county over from me and the bins and rules are county-dependent). we have weekly collections for recycling (as long as it's in the correct black box) and food waste (in a small brown caddy.
Cardboard goes in a blue weatherproof bag and is collected every 2 weeks at the same time as the black bin which is landfil waste unfortunately. Paper goes in a bag and is collected weekly and in the summer they take the green bin (garden waste) every 2 weeks. Bloody hard work to keep up with it to be honest!

Welcome Dizzy I think I may be the poster you're referring to. Have been Ttc for a long time and having a run of bad news at the mo but I'm glad things are working out for you!

Fluffy DSis has 2 children less than a year apart 😱 I'm not sure if you remember me saying one was very prem so she currently has baby who can't yet roll over and one crawling (and older primary age child too)!
She is a permanent fixture on the zombie bench as they take it in turns to wake up in the night. I don't know how she functions some days!

Neros I am visiting Belfast (but staying in countryside) soon as we did Dublin before Christmas and enjoyed it. Plan is to hopefully come back again and go to Cork on a separate trip. I think us Welshies have a soft spot for Ireland!

I am going back to work tomorrow so getting my clothes / bag ready now so I don't have to worry in the morning. I half want to get stuck back in and half want to run away from my inbox!

WheelchairWoes · 02/01/2019 20:58

I'm considering buying some small plastic totes in blue for our recycling and then I can have Joe take it to the recycling place every other day or so. We do a lot of soda cans and boxes which I would love to be recycles. I think they should really collect it here but they don't

Fiddle Very interesting! Can one travel freely around the area though? (Keep in mind I'm in the psycho build the wall country so I don't know how things work elsewhere) We are hoping to trip up there someday.

seafood Those gifts sound terrible honestly :( I'm sorry again. I know I keep saying it but I've been there and I know how hurt it made me feel.

The Children's museum is amazing! I have some pics. Here's some dinos and dd building a chinese statue puzzle the last time we went lol

PSB Sounds like a relaxing time to me!

Do you guys remember me being worried about my disabled review? I heard back today and they've decided I AM still disabled and will still get my benefits. I was so scared I would be losing my medical coverage which would have killed me! So no more stress with that at least!

crazy I hope you have a fantastic first day back! I'm sending you all the warm thoughts!

Your sister definitely sounds like she'd a be a mombie with her kids waking her up all hours. I remember those days.

CathyBigBalls · 02/01/2019 21:02

We have 15 months between June and Darcie, which was an absolute nightmare. It’s much nicer now and I like how close they are. This bath has done nothing and the twins are still stuck in my bloody ribs!. I’m gonna go and have a cup of tea and some food and try and move them that way, if not it’ll be a long sleepless night for me!.

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/01/2019 21:06

That must be such a relief Wheelie! Xmas Grin Those reviews are so stupid though. DS1 and my mum were born with disabilities, they aren't suddenly going to wake up and be cured. Xmas Hmm

NerosFiddle · 02/01/2019 21:29

Wheel I'm glad you got good news.
At the minute we have an open border so can pass with no problem. But who knows what will happen after Brexit.

Crazy I've actually never been to Cork. It used to be an 8 hr drive to it and I just didn't want to sit in a car for that long. Belfast is about 2 hrs away from me, but I went to uni there so know it well.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/01/2019 22:12

Great news, Wheelie; you must be so relieved!

CathyBigBalls · 02/01/2019 22:23

What a relief Wheelie!!

WheelchairWoes · 02/01/2019 22:25

Psb It is stupid. My mom was ranting about it 'you are about to be put on a feeding tube! Do they think you'll wake up tomorrow miraculously healed?!' lol

Joe heard back from the doctors office about his cholesterol results. His lipids is high which we expected and he's going back on medication to bring it down. His is genetic so adjusting his diet will not help at all the cardiologist says.

Fiddle Thanks for all the information! I hope even after Brexit it won't be too hard. I would really love to visit more than just one place while we are in Ireland!

fluffy I am! We could get by without the money. It would be hard but we'd make do. But the insurance is something I couldn't get by without. I am just waiting and praying sometime in my life we'll go to universal healthcare. I have a friend who just died because she was denied her disability and lost her insurance and couldn't pay for her insulin for her diabetes :( She was 30

WheelchairWoes · 02/01/2019 22:26

cathy I hope the babies come down out of your ribs soon so you can rest!

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/01/2019 22:56

I like your mom Wheelie. Xmas Grin

DizzyMerry11 · 02/01/2019 22:58

Thank you for the warm welcome Smile

We always wanted a small gap between our DC but things don’t always work out the way we plan. Although now it all feels new to me and it doesn’t help that I got rid of every single baby item we owned, big and small so will need to start from scratch Confused

Wheelie phew!! What a relief that must be for you. My work place has a welfare benefits department and I know too well how utterly devastating the effects of benefits cessation is on the individuals/families we deal with.

Crazy sorry I was posting from my phone so couldn’t go that far back to check who the poster was. I’m sorry you’re having difficulties and hope things work out the way you want them to.

CathyBigBalls · 03/01/2019 00:31

Welcome Dizzy

Well the bath and the food did some good, but one of them seems to be pushing on my back now. DH decided to change the bed sheets but did it wrong so I’ve had to do all that again, and then the light bulbs gone in the girls’ room so I’ve put a lamp in with them for now otherwise they won’t sleep but I’ll be down the shop to get a new bulb later. It’s a good job I didn’t go to sleep really!. I’ve just slathered my self in my sleepy lotion and I’m hoping that does the trick, see you all tomorrow.

WheelchairWoes · 03/01/2019 01:30

Psb She doesn't take any crap for sure. lol

Dizzy Thank you it really is like a weight has been lifted off me. This process started in October. So I've been waiting since then to see what would happen and it's not helped me emotionally for sure.

Cathy I hope you get some sleep tonight sweetie and that it's a good sleep!

It's 8:30 pm. My kids left about 5:45 to go to my dad's for a bit. Joe is at work so it's just me and the cats hanging out on my nest haha. I'm freezing so I'm curled up with the comforter and watching more Christmas movies. I'm trying to get my fill as they stop playing them on January 7th and that's coming up fast!

NoWordForFluffy · 03/01/2019 06:08

Morning!

Cathy, how do you change bed sheets the wrong way? I'm intrigued!

Have you seen the Peppa Pig torch nightlight? We use that with our two as it's not too bright but they get enough light to comfort them.

Off to work soon. But it's my Friday, yay!

Mrsmadevans · 03/01/2019 08:28

I am back at work and actually enjoying the change of scene however I have already agreed with my boss that I'll finish at 12 today and tomorrow but take some admin stuff home so I'm not technically taking any annual leave. He didn't have to agree to that so I'm quite pleased as I'm still a little sore and quite uncomfortable.
The admin work will only amount to an hour, maybe 2 if I don't fully concentrate on it so I'm also intending to crochet a bit. A friend has requested a crochet Christmas wreath and I want one so I plan to periodically make leaves / acorns / berries and robins and when I have enough, team them with a wicker wreath each and some pieces of an old wreath I have spare so they're hybrid traditional (plastic) and crochet.

CathyBigBalls · 03/01/2019 09:33

Fluffy He doesn’t match the corners, so he literally just puts the cover over the quilt and then puts it on the bed. So all the corners are completely loose and when you pull the quilt up the quilt inside just moves around.

I’ll have a look about that nightlight. They really hate the dark so I’ll see if it’s light enough for them.
