Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link and the and then last word and the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me k ow if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

Can anyone recommend or find some good 16 age rated PS4 games? All the ones on my son's list are 18s and Im not ready to go there just yet.

lauryloo · 30/11/2018 09:48

is there any way of getting discounted gift vouchers?

i have various gaming vouchers to buy for teens in the family

maybeitsbecauseim · 30/11/2018 10:25

If anyone’s looking for a stocking filler for men, I’ve just found www.scruffstuff.co.uk, which is a beard oil (!) subscription site. The first one is only £1 and apparently you can cancel at any time. I’ve ordered one, but obviously can’t vouch for it yet.

Maranello · 30/11/2018 10:34

@lauryloo Tesco often does 15-20% off various gift cards; at the moment it's dining offers but this one ends on 2 December so would be worth keeping an eye on after that to see what the next deal is:

Oooh god! Remind me again lovely bargain hunters, what was the cheap equivalent of a Fitbit called? xx

FrederickCreeding · 30/11/2018 10:37

Not that I've left it to the last minute or anything, but it's the 1st December tomorrow and I haven't quite finished the refillable advent calendar yet.

I put either an 'activity ' (mainly things we'd do anyway: Christmas baking, decorate gingerbread house, school Xmas fayres, trip to see Santa, pantomime etc) which I just write on a piece of paper OR something (cheap!) that I've bought. I've found a couple of craft things, decorate own baubles etc but I could really do with a couple of bright ideas for about 4 more things if anyone has any suggestions!

IForgotThisEvening · 30/11/2018 10:37

@necromumda what sort does he like?

Tbh some of the age ratings on games are ridiculous and don’t really have much difference to a 14+.

I’ve just bought ds (15) Skyrim. It is an 18 but I can see no reason why (I ply it online myself)

Asj0405 · 30/11/2018 10:37

Yay it's here that will be one happy DD on Christmas day Grin.

How about an activity linked with a random act of kindness Frederick? We used to do similar with a refillable advent calendar when the DC were younger and life wasn’t so ridiculously busy and we included things like bake a bag of cookies and deliver to elderly neighbour, go into town and deliver warm socks to some homeless folk in town, make handmade cards for great-grandparents, donation to food bank etc.

necromumda · 30/11/2018 11:06

@iforgotthisevening thanks! He has skyrim on his list so , if it seems ok, could be the 18 we get as a compromise. He is 14.
Would like a long list: red dead redemption, god of war, black ops 4, far cry 5, just cause 4, kingdom come deliverance,.
I have bought spiderman :)

Jfw82 · 30/11/2018 11:07

Don't know if anyone was still after Roald Dahl Monopoly but Amazon have it for £18.99 today as one of their deals of the day

PunkAssMoFo · 30/11/2018 11:27

Has anyone mentioned the bogof of perfumes and 20% off make up at Superdrug?

IForgotThisEvening · 30/11/2018 11:36

@necromumda im not a ‘free for all’ type of parent (I’m also a deputy head teacher if that matters) but the only one I’d personally say no to on that list is Red Dead Redemption - the other ones are not bad at all (far cry 5 is actually a bloody brilliant game!)

necromumda · 30/11/2018 11:38

Thanks so much @iforgotthisevening . As you may have guessed, I am not a ganmer so have no clue! he is also not allowed to have PS plus.

MrsCrimbo74 · 30/11/2018 11:54

Does anyone on here own a wiiU? I have a game that I bought by mistake thinking it was a Wii one, I'd like to gift it to someone if anyone wants it, it's the Sing Party with a microphone.

IForgotThisEvening · 30/11/2018 11:57

@necromumda this is a good site to use if you’re not sure. It has games rated by both kids and parents so you can base your decision on more than ‘but so-and-so is allowed to play it’ 😂

Trytowin · 30/11/2018 12:06

Hope you don't mind me joining in, looked at the book people last night but that have changed offer overnight. It's now 20% not 10% handpicked favourites but all the prices went up by a pound or so overnight! Grrrr

Also free delivery went from a 20 quid spend to a 25 quid one! So was gutted until a Google search found elf10 which is free delivery over a tenner.

Just placed my order :-) hope this helps someone!

Gentlygently · 30/11/2018 12:27

Mi 3 is the cheap Fitbit.

minsmum · 30/11/2018 12:30

My Dh has just asked for a fitbit any ideas where to get a good deal on one

Theonlyoneiknow · 30/11/2018 13:21

Does anyone's DCs have a Garmin Vivo Jnr that they would recommend (or seen any good deals on)? The reviews are mixed. Many Thanks :)

Maranello · 30/11/2018 13:33

Hi @Theonlyoneiknow I bought my DS (then age 10) the Garmin Vivofit 3, rather than the junior version, as he didn't like the patterned straps and wanted a more grownup style. He loves it and wears it constantly (even while swimming, and when asleep), we've had no problems with it.

Amazon and John Lewis have it for around £45, can't remember what I paid for it - was over a year ago now but I suspect a bit more than that.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 30/11/2018 13:40

Theonlyoneiknow what age is the child you are thinking of buying the Garmin for? I have heard pretty poor things about the vivofit jnr and we decided against it for our DDs. A few of DTs friends have them and they are definitely more gimmicky than actually useful.

We spent a long time investigating all the options (inc the new Fitbit jnr model) and eventually decided to get DD(11) the Garmin forerunner 25, and not to bother getting anything for DTs(8) until they were old enough to really make the use of something similar.

I will say that my DC all run fairly regularly (youngest 2 do junior parkrun and older 2 also run a few times a week) so we wanted to get something more than a gimmick. Eldest DS has the Garmin forerunner 35 (same as me) but we felt this was too expensive for DD11, so went with the cheaper 25 which doesn’t have a heart rate monitor and is more basic than the 35 but still with good functionality.

The watch would actually be fine for DTs(8) but we don’t really want them to have £70 watches hence why we’ve held off.

Iwannasnack · 30/11/2018 13:46

Does anyone know if M&S are likely to do another 20% off soon? I had one a few weeks ago that I missed the end date and now have a basketful!
