I am sat here just itching to put mine up! I probably would of already if I didn't have a dog and small child sprawled across me effectively restraining me from the oh so tempting call of the twinkly lights! 😁

Where does everybody else stand on this? Are yours up already or are you waiting?

It's not even December yet! I don't put mine up until about a week and a half before Christmas. I hate the fact that it all starts so early - for me it dilutes the whole thing and makes it less special.

RapunzelsRealMom · 23/11/2018 12:14

The first Sunday in December for us. It has become our tradition. We buy the tree in the morning, DH takes the little ones out while I sort the lights, then decorate it all together in the afternoon. We play Xmas music have nice snacks, possibly a Wine for the adults Grin

1st December

ArfArfBarf · 23/11/2018 12:28

Our house lights are going up this week and the tree the week after. Lots of houses already decorated here in Germany. Seasonal decorating is a big thing here though so people are switching from autumn/harvest inspired decorations to winter decorations rather than specifically decorating for Christmas.

BearSoFair · 23/11/2018 14:31

We try to have them up for about 2 weeks beforehand, always go up at a weekend so this year it'll be either the 8th or 9th.

giveovermypreciousss · 23/11/2018 14:35

1st December here. And we try to make it really christmassy with songs, films and hot choc. I dont like putting it up too late as it doesnt seem worth all the effort.
A house near us put theirs up on the 5th November which seemed crazy but then 2 more popped up on the same street too. Its winding my dc up. They are nagging for ours to go up to.

Squirrelblanket · 23/11/2018 17:59

We usually put them up the weekend immediately after Thanksgiving, which is this weekend. However we're going to Germany for a real Christmas market so it will have to wait until next weekend!

Bluntness100 · 23/11/2018 18:04

Normally about two weeks before.

MeVoila · 23/11/2018 18:13

I'm going to put a few up on 5th Dec because I have friends coming over for the evening. Got some nice gold star garlands from Rockett St George and loads of white fairy lights and candles. ooh and some huge white honeycomb baubles.
Won't be getting tree up til about 20th.
Usually had enough, especially of cards, by about 29th.

This, with jingle balls on!!

Roomba · 23/11/2018 18:18

Usually a ocouple of weekends beforehand. I can't beat them being up for weeks on end and would happily put them up Christmas Eve but my kids want them up earlier! I'm not as bad as my ex FIL though, the one time we went there for Christmas Dinner we all had to help put the tree and decorations up before we sat down! Actually, it did feel quite festive with Christmas music on while we did it... Grin

FiveNightsAtMummys · 23/11/2018 18:20

I love Christmas mines already up and has been for a few weeks. I feel organised and I love the lights on an evening :)

AuntieStella · 23/11/2018 18:20

About 20th Dec - after a family birthday and roughly when DC have broken up. They stay up until 12th Night

yawning801 · 23/11/2018 18:48

This, with jingle balls on!!

...oops. I meant jingle bells. I promise! climbs up Christmas tree to hide

LillianGish · 23/11/2018 18:55

Mine go up gradually. We lived in Berlin for four years and I love the fact that there the twinkling lights start to go up around now (I think it is St Martin tonight - miss the lantern parades so much), but many Germans don't put their actual tree up until Christmas Eve. I start getting a few things out - lots of candles lit this evening for a cosy warm glow - and gradually build up. Filling up the advent calendars ready for next weekend - kids (teenagers now) love to come home from school and spot the new additions. We will get a tree early this year because we will be at my mum's for Christmas. I put the lights on then the kids decorate it and then we'll do it all over again when we get to my mum's because she likes to leave her tree to the last minute.

sonnybo · 23/11/2018 18:57

Our living room/ main tree goes up on the 1st, then the kitchen and dining room trees will usually go up mid December.

TeacupDrama · 23/11/2018 18:58

2ND WEEKEND it is DD birthday on 1st so we have a week-10 days of her cards up etc and then Christmas stuff so it will be 8-9th this year

Funnyface1 · 23/11/2018 19:10

Usually second week in December. I'm really excited this year though. Dh said he wants to do it on the 1st of December and I may cave.

73kittycat73 · 23/11/2018 19:17

Have all been up at least a week already. Xmas Grin

WipsGlitter · 23/11/2018 19:30

I can't believe people have their trees up already. I clearly remember as a child being excited to "spot" trees and there definitely weren't any up in November.

I enjoy Christmas but it's about balance for me and having other highlights in the year too.

I totally agree it dilutes it all.

Our tree will go up on the 14th if I have my way.

RedBlu · 23/11/2018 19:36

A few things are going up this weekend as it's really the only free weekend we have for a while. I don't think we will put the tree up yet though

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 23/11/2018 19:48

Ours go up @mid December. I'm another who thinks putting them up too early 'dilutes' the excitement and anticipation.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I actually think putting up decorations in early or mid November, as some do, is a bit cruel! Little kids don't have much understanding of time and the whole thing of starting the Christmas build up in November must make it all feel never ending.

tryinganewname · 23/11/2018 19:58

Mine are going up next weekend. I love Christmas decorations prior to Xmas day but can't stand them once it's done so they're down either Boxing Day or the day after.. so I have to get them up early.

I'd probably have had them up today if we hadn't just got back of holiday and DH would allow me!

girlinleeds · 23/11/2018 19:58

tomorrow, if it was upto dd they'd never be taken down

Oldraver · 23/11/2018 21:43

Sometime after 9th December (OH's birthday)...he says he refuses to share it with Christmas...we play along.

It was him suggesting getting the lights out early last year
