I am sat here just itching to put mine up! I probably would of already if I didn't have a dog and small child sprawled across me effectively restraining me from the oh so tempting call of the twinkly lights! 😁

Where does everybody else stand on this? Are yours up already or are you waiting?

Around the 18th. Christmas proper starts when all the family are home. Before that all the special treats are out of bounds.

Birdsgottafly · 23/11/2018 22:33

We've got two December Birthdays, so it's anytime after 14th.

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 24/11/2018 09:03

Usually the first weekend in December but we’re in London for the X Factor final so it’ll have to be the 2nd weekend... except we’re in Leeds on Saturday and Sunday morning so it’ll have to be later on the Sunday! We’re soooo busy this year!

heathers00 · 24/11/2018 11:03

The tree is going up on the 1st December is all goes to plan.
DH is itching to put it up sooner though so we have put up some other small decorations. The snowflake window stickers went up on the windows yesterday!

sunshineandshowers21 · 24/11/2018 11:06

my mum’s always said that you put them up 12 days before and take them down 12 days after so we’ve always done that.

Fifthtimelucky · 24/11/2018 11:07

The tree goes up either one or two weekends before Christmas. This year it will be the 16th as we have friends coming for lunch on the 22nd. Final decorations aren't usually done until Christmas Eve (flower arrangement on mantelpiece plus lots of ivy draped about) but this year will do for the 22nd.

Parker231 · 24/11/2018 11:08

They go up the weekend before Christmas (in time for the party we hold) and then down the morning of New Years Eve.

SheSparkles · 24/11/2018 11:12

It depends on when I have a weekend off, but usually a couple of weekends before Christmas. We get a real tree so if we got it earlier I have visions of a sad looking needleless tree with decorations on it 😂

akmum18 · 24/11/2018 16:17

2 weeks before Christmas on the weekend so sometimes makes it 2.5 weeks. I don’t like them out too early as it ruins the excitement for us a bit so by the time Christmas arrives I’m itching to take it down.

Lovemusic33 · 24/11/2018 17:25

Up on the 1st and down on the 27th.

HRTpatch · 24/11/2018 17:26

Up on 17th and down 2nd Jan
I only do a tree. Nothing else.

RaisinRainbow · 24/11/2018 17:35

I'm feeling to put the tree up now, just hauled decs out of storage and am contemplating it/
Suddenly feeling festive and after all it will be aRudolph day tomorrow.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2018 17:39

I've started baking.
Both DC are older teens but still love their calendars - with special chocolates in. They have to be ready for the 1st.
The wreath has to be ready for the 2nd - we always make it ourselves (DD an I) .
I'll put up my window decorations on the 1st, too. Perhaps I'll buy some solar powered outdoor lights this year.
Barbara twigs in on the 8th to flower at Christmas.
Tree up on the 24th. An outside tree with weather proof baubles because of the cat, who likes to destroy my straw ornaments from DGM and late DM.

EdWinchester · 24/11/2018 17:43

15th this year as we're having a drinks party that night.

Bit too early for me plus we have real trees and they'd look desperate if we got them early.

theboxofdelights · 24/11/2018 17:43

Usually the 1st or weekend nearest to it.

SheHasNotions · 24/11/2018 18:12

Usually the second weekend in December, but they’re going up on the 1st this year, as hosting a big family gathering on the 2nd and want it to feel festive.

Fantastiqueangel · 24/11/2018 19:30

About the 18th hopefully. I'd prefer 21st but doubt the kids will wait.

fleshmarketclose · 25/11/2018 08:30

As close to Christmas as I can get away with, but definitely not before 18th. Hate the clutter so the tree's appearance is always brief. I dream of the day I won't have a tree but unfortunately have dc (older now) who seem to expect to see one when they come here but don't have one in their own homes Hmm

SnuggyBuggy · 25/11/2018 08:32

Always done first weekend of December

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/11/2018 08:36

The 1st, or as close to that as possible. The 1st is my birthday, I love Christmas and I like to enjoy being in a Christmassy house as long as possible. Never before the 1st though.

StyleOfTheTimes · 25/11/2018 08:37

We always put ours up on the first weekend in December, so they’ll be going up next Saturday. With us both working full time we don’t really get to enjoy the decorations being up as we only see them at night when we get home. I do take them down New Year’s Day though as after that it’s like Christmas is over and I’m ready to move into spring lol!

teejayem · 25/11/2018 08:39

Usually first weekend in Dec for the full tree/outside lights piece. (Although I have got a couple of little pieces up already) I actually disagree with the dilution of Christmas- we treat it as a month long festival of things you wouldn't normally do the rest of the year rather than saving it all for mass overconsumption on Xmas Eve/Day/Boxing Day and then it's all over. Spreading it across the whole month makes it (for us anyway) more about a midwinter event with food and lights and stuff rather than just about the day itself.
That and I have seasonal affective disorder and having all of December to celebrate Christmas actually helps me to get through the dark nights and mornings, everything feels better with twinkly lights on. Smile

KittyLikesMagic · 25/11/2018 08:53

First weekend in December. It doesn't dilute it for us, Christmas is the whole month of December as far as we're concerned, not just the one day.

KittyLikesMagic · 25/11/2018 08:54

Oh yes, teejayem said it much better.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 25/11/2018 09:08

We are going to start putting ours up on the 30th November and then put some up with the dcs over the first weekend.
