Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link and the and then last word and the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

No affiliate links please.

Referral thread here

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me k ow if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

Snowman just click this link www.audible.co.uk/ep/childrens-audiobook-sale?ref=a_hp_c5_zing_0&pf_rd_p=8329d03b-f842-4ce3-8f59-b41239fecc7d&pf_rd_r=9C4ZHHPR62DZHF6WSHNQ&

Then you can narrow down what you want to look at from there by age or whatever

Merry, we got our son a hoodless, lightweight onesie from H&M a couple of months ago. He also has a problem with overheating!

A word of caution on the Kindle thing: DS has had one for a couple of years and we have not been at all impressed. It routinely fails to load games and videos, and it has a problem (which apparently is a known glitch) where it sometimes fails to recognise the memory card. We've decided to bite the bullet and get a reconditioned iPad this year, because it is just so frustrating to use. But maybe we've just been unlucky!

Thank you to whoever posted the Hobbycraft half price colour in houses! Was gutted there was limited availability online last night but when I went to collect this morning my local store had piles of all of them. The boxes are massive, so great wrapped “wow” factor but won’t bung up the house for ever. Hobbycraft also have sets of 6 bottles of paint for £4 in various colour ranges- great gifts for my 2 and my niece and nephew.

(I’m usually finished by about now, thanks to Reastie and co. This year I’d avoided even starting till yesterday.. and after a bit of reading on here I’m now awaiting several aliexpress parcels and have a boot full of hobby craft. Thanks guys!)

Not very 'christmassy' but screwfix have sent me £10 off code with no minimum spend to be used by November. It came in the post. I'm off to see if I can find a stocking filler present for my dad or boyfriend but might be helpful to someone. I saw the screw fix return address on the letter and nearly chucked it so I'm glad I opened it.

Corfu06 · 22/10/2018 14:12

Oh and I remember someone asking for none clothing Harry Potter gifts earlier. I've just been in Wilko's and they had some cute HP stuff in their gift section

Can someone explain audible for me? I thought it was a membership of £8 a month and you got unlimited books to listen to but is that not the case? So you buy a book but still pay a membership?
I have an echo Alexa thing in my living room but I'm getting my kids an echo dot for their rooms so would like them to have some books to listen to.

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2018 14:16

Last year we put up a cardboard house inside out so it was plain with no pattern, then painted it brown and decorated to look like a gingerbread house. It stayed up in the lounge for most of December and was great fun for less than £10.

Wickes have tool-filled advent calendars online, not sure about in-store. They are £39 but come with screw driver bits, Allen key bits and a glow in the dark bottle opener... Who knew you would need to open a bottle in the dark?!

Re: Kindles, after reading so many bad reviews about clunky interfaces and hearing of friends whose children had difficulty with their kindles, we went for a reconditioned iPad mini from Music Magpie. It’s been perfect, we have parental restrictions on it and best of all, we know how to fix it if something goes wrong, which it hasn’t yet!

rosablue · 22/10/2018 15:29

Thanks again @Reastie for yet another thread... Hope you're managing to stack up some good bargains for yourself as well as helping the rest of us!

With regards to photobooks if you're still looking, Jessops used to use CeWe to make their photobooks for them - it's all Jessops branded but if you looked in a little tucked away corner at the back or front of the book (long time since I've looked sorry!) the CeWe logo was there and there were articles around saying how they've signed up to use them.

Jessops currently have 40% of photobooks with the code OCT40 (it's on the top of the photobook page), plus if you sign up to their mailing list you get a £10 off and some places like topcashback etc sometimes have discounts on them. No idea how well all the offers stack together though! But 40% off their photobooks if they are cewe ones could be a very good deal if cewe aren't discounting them themselves...

The other thing is to sign up to places like tesco photo - I've had some great ones from them in the past (think they used to use HP photobooks but then stopped and started to use someone else) - if you sign up to their photo newsletter they regularly have sales on with 50% and more off the price. Plus because you can order them to pick up in store you save several pounds on postage which can really add up if you are doing several big ones. (well, if you live close enough to a tesco to take advantage of this!)

Check out who allows you to download software then upload a finished book rather than doing it all online to make it as easy as possible for yourself - and if you start to compare software you'll start to see similarities between some of them so will get to realise who the actual provider of the service is - then you can track down the best discounts...

I ordered a first news subscription, free trial. Do I just cancel direct debit or do I need to contact magazine company too?

Smellybears · 22/10/2018 16:20

@Betsy it was me! Thank you! I got one this morning, that’s another one to cross off the Christmas shopping list! As long as I don’t eat it! Hmm

thaegumathteth · 22/10/2018 16:24

The Range today has llama colouring book / pen sets for £5 and a colour your own porcelain llama for I think £2.99

Also on amazon the ‘you are awesome’ book and journal are reduced to almost half price. Great if you’re trying to build confidence in your kids.

neddle · 22/10/2018 16:38

I’ve got two boys obsessed with Fortnite, so I’m looking for some things with it on.
So far I’ve got them a t shirt each from Peacocks (only one style left on the website now though), and a gingerbread man ornament each from Etsy.

Anyone seen anything else I can get please?
