I got my dc talking about advent calendars today & they've decided on Lego Friends, Hot Wheels & Animals.

Amazon have the Hot Wheels one for about £8 so i've ordered that just looking for deals on the other 2 if anyone sees anything 😊

For the animals one I've looked & think the Schleich wildlife one fits the bill just looking for bargains now!

CoffeeAndEnnui · 06/08/2018 23:24

There are some epic bargains in the Magpie sale right now for those in search of quirkier gifts: www.magpieline.com/shop/summer-sale-18/

I got a few of their retro record storage boxes for £8 each (usually £24.99+ elsewhere) and the trinket box pictured.

It's ceramic and HUGE considering it cost me £1!!! Going to fill them with Smarties (as in "popping pills like Smarties") like mine and use as stand by gifts for my friends.

It came boxed and the tool ones (screw on top) are the same size. Just filled one with choccy tools for a birthday pressies and it was well received.

Extra 20% off right now with code BIG20. Taking the £1 boxes (and note pads) down to pleasing 80p price point. Safe to share this discovery now as I've just ordered 4 more. To be on the safe sideGrin

*Ignore the pop up which says tracked postage is £4.95. There's a £3.50 standard option too.

Japril · 06/08/2018 23:45

Thank u for the magpie link I just got some cracking anatomy themed gifts for my husband and brother in law!

LilMadAgain · 06/08/2018 23:59

jurassic girl is that the Hot Wheels 2017?

BlindedByYourGrey · 06/08/2018 23:59

Placemarking. Love these threads. Thank you!

CoffeeAndEnnui · 07/08/2018 00:00

@Japril, I'm so happy someone else cashed in. It's all so cheapShock I must confess I was eying up the anatomy bits too (no pun intended) but I've slapped my hand away from the add to basket button because I've no one at all in mind for them. I just think they're coolBlush

KavvLar · 07/08/2018 00:07

Also a big fan of penguin pairs in this house. On our summer hols at the moment and it has come with us! It’s 34 degrees here and DH thinks I am insane but I’m glad to be back with my forward thinking Christmas compadres.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 07/08/2018 00:10

If you scroll right down the Magpie sale page there's a Sock Monkey baby bib that works out at 56p with the extra discountShock

(I have no babies to buy for. I NEED to close the laptop!)

WoahBodyforrrrm · 07/08/2018 00:17

Glad tidings one and all. A pleasure as always 🎄

Greyhound22 · 07/08/2018 00:40

Thanks Coffee - my brother collects records so I bought one of the boxes. Less than a tenner with post.

LilMadAgain · 07/08/2018 00:51

coffee ty ty ty! I found teacup and saucers for my Nan and grandad (I get them every year), the style is perfect and thanks to you I was able to afford a gift for them both, it's been a shit year for money, ty! Wine

CoffeeAndEnnui · 07/08/2018 01:07

@LilMadAgain, that just choked me up a little. Delighted it helped you out. In similar shit financial position this year and this thread is being me hope right alongside the bargains. Hope things get better for you soonFlowers

@Greyhound22, the record boxes look really nice 'in person'. Was thrilled to find them so cheaply. Hope your brother likes his.

Hi talkingolmer how are you enjoying the heat wave. I’m hating it!!

Still waiting for a woolovers 2 for £10 with baited breath!!

LilMadAgain · 07/08/2018 01:57

Does anyone remember the £1.99 Gillette powerball razors from last year? I just ordered another one as I found it advertised on HUKD/HDUK. It's still a free razor with just £1.99 for p and p, 28 days delivery time and a very nice stocking filler :)

LilMadAgain · 07/08/2018 02:00

Ooh and as an added incentive they send a voucher for £4.00 off your next purchase of razorblades :) I used mine last year.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 07/08/2018 06:22

Oh duckling I am trying so hard to not buy the dcs Boden Christmas stuff this year! We have no money, we have no money

NoWordForFluffy · 07/08/2018 06:39

Ah, brilliant site, Coffee!

I've ordered 10 flamingo notebooks for the present box (kids love a notebook, pencils and novelty rubber gift!) plus a record box and tool trinket box for DH as well as a few other bits the DC will like! Thanks again. 😁

NoWordForFluffy · 07/08/2018 07:02

Ooh. Little tip from the GH Christmas planner. Apparently if you download www.getinvisiblehand.com to your browser it'll tell you if what you're looking at is cheaper elsewhere. Brilliant idea! (Potentially doesn't work on mobile devices, I assume.)

And www.megashopbot.com is a MSE price comparison site.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/08/2018 07:04

You might want to Google those as I'm not sure the links work, however. But they're lifted from the magazine!

Coffee, thanks for the magpie link. Found some great bits and pieces. Very pleased with the fake passport notebooks as I’m making up a travel hamper for a friend.

Alanamackree · 07/08/2018 08:44

Stellenbosch, how old are your dc? For little ones silicone molds are brilliant. We pour choc (slightly cool in piping bag with a knot) and sprinkle lots of hundreds and thousands to make jazzles. The rough edges fall off when you pop them out of their tray and cellophane bags, ribbon and a tag finish them off. In bigger molds we make choc compost; instead of sprinkles add random sweets, chopped crunchie etc. I use up Halloween sweets this way! Get requests for this every year. If the dc are older, gingerbread houses can be fairly cheap (ikea or tiger for the kit, then icing sugar, egg white and a few bags of sweets in aldi) but quite an impressive end result. I think baked goods/sweets are a good way to go for relatives other than grandparents as they are consumable!!
