I'm on the hunt for an expandable sewing box for my grandmother. The type with layers for threads, needles and scissors etc as her current one has long seen better days.

gingerbreadmam · 03/12/2017 17:51

I bought the toffee one of this stage Christmas market recently with the chocolate shot glasses for an aunty and uncle who are hard to buy for

www.raisthorpemanor.com/collections/9ct-shimmering-vodka

It's gorgeous. More of a liqueur. Definitely looks the part.

CarrotVan · 03/12/2017 17:51

@methenyouplus4 how about Adrian Newey's autobiography- How to Build a Car. It's a tenner at The Book People

Methenyouplus4 · 03/12/2017 18:14

I have no idea who Adrian Newey is but off to Google him and hopefully the guy i'm buying for will.

hashtagelfie · 03/12/2017 18:31

For those after fingerlings, keep checking you local smyths. I preorder one in ever colour ages ago but have since got one from toysrus so don't need the ones that arrived Friday so they will all be appearing on the shelves tomorrow!

werewolfhowls · 03/12/2017 18:52

I bought my mum a nice sewing box from kath kidston awhile ago

Madonnasmum · 03/12/2017 18:57

I picked up my fingerling is reserved on Friday. Annoyingly you can't select the colour online but the lovely lady at the collection point swapped it for the specific one I wanted (after the not so lovely lady at the till refused) . I'll now cancel my pre ordered one with the Entertainer.

purplepandas · 03/12/2017 19:44

Oholy, keep checking argos too. Managed to track down two in localish stores. DH is off to get the tomorrow. Makes up for the fact that he 'bought' some on a dodgy site earlier and now they have used this money to book a hotel abroad. Fabulous. We will need to instigate claiming back in 15 days when they don't send them (all dodgy when queried with the bank). Once cancelled bank card later but hopefully some fingerlings too.

purplepandas · 03/12/2017 19:44

Can't check colours I know but figure anything better than nothing at this point!

cookiefiend · 03/12/2017 20:32

babypossum · 03/12/2017 20:32

I know it was mentioned hundreds and hundreds of posts ago but can anybody recommend a cheap alternative to a Fitbit for an 8 year old please?

gingerbreadmam · 03/12/2017 20:36

If I remember rightly the jawbones are cheap @babypossom.

I got my niece one from Curry's that was about 30 might be called a goji. I'll have a quick look.

gingerbreadmam · 03/12/2017 20:38

Has anyone ever ordered/taken one of those ancestry/DNA test kits that tell you your ethnicity? Can you recommend? Only thing that DH has even expressed a passing interest in but the Ancestry one is £71 Shock

minsmum · 03/12/2017 22:14

My dd has just asked for ghd classic curl tongs, the only price that I can find them for is £120.0. Does anyone have any tips for somewhere else to look

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 03/12/2017 22:20

chippy what about this?

Chippytheelf29 · 03/12/2017 22:33

@Fueledwithfairydustandgin that’s actually the only one I could find after trawling the internet. It looks perfect but it’s actually a very small collectors item and i think my dd is after one a little bigger. Thanks though.

OhHolyFuck · 03/12/2017 22:51

@OhRex I was looking at those too, cheapest I found was from American Amazon even with the shipping

PopTheDragon · 04/12/2017 01:50

The Sock Shop has 5% off with code AFFEX5 doesn't say about a required minimum spend.

teewee · 04/12/2017 07:16

Thanks to a pp who suggested TK Max for umbrella got a lovely saville row one for £20 - £60 in shops

AgnesBrownsCat · 04/12/2017 08:35

I’ve done an ancestry dna test . I have an American cousin (family emigrated from here in 1849 )and she sent it to me as she is very into genealogy. It’s good to go through the ancestry site as you can find family members and link family trees. I don’t have the time or inclination to pursue it at the moment but maybe one day . I did make a connection with a cousin and his wife last year and they visited us in the summer .
