Guess wot Mary? Grin

I have bought a CHRISTMAS present! Ho yes. And some decorations, from Paperchase.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 07/11/2013 20:12

I should get extra MaryZ points for knowing that. Grin

ArbitraryUsername · 07/11/2013 20:13

I think Mary's would approve of DS2. He's taken to tutting and remarking loudly in shops/shopping centres. Nothing like a 4 year old rolling his eyes and saying 'why does Asda think it's Christmas?' in a long suffering tone to make fellow shoppers snigger.

Tee2072 · 07/11/2013 20:15

By the way, after commenting on our mild October and November I had to go out in driving wind and rain. Me and my big mouth.

Doinmummy · 07/11/2013 20:16

Pleeeease don't talk about the 'C' word. I'm coming over all panicky. I'll be forced to swig Baileys and eat chocolate to calm myself down

ArbitraryUsername · 07/11/2013 20:18

Although maryz would hate my lack of autocorrect vigilance there.

I'm with Mary on this:

  • how can you stay excited for 3 months, are you not just a bit fed up at that point
  • where do you store all the presents for 2 months!
  • how can you buy Xmas food and not eat it
  • instead of slimming for Xmas party, there are too many aisles of tinned chocolate to resist
  • how can we continue to lie to small children about the magic of Christmas if the Asda elves start in Oct

How I ask you!??

I do love Christmas, but I'm Dec 1st shopping only girl unless it's for Christmas cake ingredients :)

alexpolistigers · 07/11/2013 21:38

And here was I thinking it would be so exotic to be Maryzita! Zita is how the letter is pronounced in Greek, you know, the language spoken in a warm, sunny country where I haven't turned on any heating yet

[offers Maryz the new barrel of red wine down in the basement]

I held a mulled wine party at the weekend. I insisted on no mince pies because it is not Christmas. Mulled wine is just wintery though, not Christmassy. If you were skiiing in Feb you'd have gluhwein.

fuzzpig · 07/11/2013 22:49

Today I went to London bridge specifically to go to the Christmas shop :o :o :o

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/11/2013 23:25

Oooh fuzzpig where is this Christmas Shop (I remember a shop in an arcade, came out at Tooley Street. Sold alot of Yankee Candles. Would that be it?)

Phones myself from my andline to mobile just so I can hear Mr MacGowan.
Pokes tongue out at Maryz

Nobody puts 70 in a corner Wink

fuzzpig · 07/11/2013 23:51

Yes that's the one! It is at Hays Galleria. (We seem to be following each other around the Xmas board tonight :o ) it's really small, but a bigger range of things than what the temporary shops have when they arrive in my local mall. Plenty of tat nutcracker with a purple sequin jacket anyone? but some Naice things too.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/11/2013 00:11

We went there once because DH saw an Oyster Festival and insisted we cut through.

(DH and I are vegetarian - the non fish eating type-, the DC will only eat fishfingers under protest with a bucket of Heinz Ketchup )

I love wet fish counters (weird alert) but Oysters [vom] ...........

but I remember this shop (IIRC it was early September when there's an "R" in the month)

Bit like "Christmas Angels" in York.

AdoraBell · 08/11/2013 01:10

I haven't bought a fucking thing for ChristmasGrin

And shops here never put Christmas stuff out before November. They have To sell all the Halloween stuff first.

I shan't be making a cake or Pudding either as DH has realised he can't tolerate gluten and we can't Get GF floor here, Meh he'll survive.

KalevalaForMePlease · 08/11/2013 01:24

I started out all determined to be organised, get presents early, etc. Bought a few, now have given up. It's all too much, too much tat, I can't tell the difference between acceptable tat and terrible tat. I have espied a tin of Quality Street at the supermarket with my name on it, think I will buy that, eat it all and not care about anything else.

Ooh Tee, you're in Belfast, am jealous! Am having pangs of homesickness thinking about the Christmas markets!

alexpolistigers · 08/11/2013 07:05

Maryzita Wink you would fit right in over here. Everyone does everything at the last minute. Everyone rushes out on Christmas eve to get what they want for their Christmas dinner. And then on new year's eve to get presents (present giving is on Jan 1, Father Christmas comes on new year's eve).

We usually do our tree and Christmas boat (Greek tradition is to decorate a boat) on Dec 23 (on account of being busy shopping on Dec 24).

Unless you are the local council, and then you just leave the decorations up all year round, with the lights turned off, and hope no one notices that you haven't bothered to take them down.

wonderingsoul · 08/11/2013 07:36
