I've seen it come up on here before but I can't work out what it is. Can you get away with using the cheap stuff?

Oh thanks! that's ok then!

Ive used cherry drops, I imagine a clear boiled sweet would dissolve fine.

I bet the black jack is delish? how did it look colour wise? and how many black jacks did you put in?

GlaikitFizzog · 17/11/2012 17:00

It looks like tar! Smells divine! I bought 2 bags of mixed black jack and fruit salad. And used than all. There were more BJs than FSs though! My mars bar vodka isn't looking great. I might put it through the dishwasher again.

Only thing is, I can't drink vodka for anger management purposes! So I'm giving the lot away!

AmberLeaf · 17/11/2012 17:24

Mmmm Black jack vodka sounds tempting.

Im intending to give some away as christmas presents and hoping it all lasts until then!

Afrodizzywonders · 17/11/2012 18:03

I'm joining you!!! Where did you buy your bottles from?

DH is most excited about this, wants to do the cola cubes....I'm up for Chocolate Orange....maybe some Werthers action as well.

Ahardyfool · 17/11/2012 18:56

I just bought a kilner bottle in Dunelm for £2.99 to try out this with in case anyone is still looking for nice bottles.

Also, in John Lewis they had bottle covers (think caps off of Budweiser size) in pretty sort of retro styles. They were with jam jar covers in haberdashery section if interested!

Now, does anyone know if marshmallow dishwasher vodka would work?

WitchOfEndor · 17/11/2012 19:18

Can you do tablet vodka? I always make my DB tablet for Christmas and think he would really like it in alcoholic form!

NicholasTeakozy · 17/11/2012 19:37

Tablet vodka sounds great! :o

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 17/11/2012 20:59

I got 6 bottles for £8 (I think) from wilcos. Not massive bottles but swing top and very cute for gifts.
They also sell big bottles I'm making my vodka in those in ikea for £2.50 each.

AmberLeaf · 17/11/2012 21:21

Ive still got to get some presentation bottles, I just did mine in two empty 75cl wine bottles.

Mine has cooled and is now in the freezer, think I'll have to taste a bit shortly just in the interest of quality control. Grin

Whatiswitnit · 17/11/2012 22:18

Wow, I've never heard of this. It sounds ace. That's my sister's pressy sorted.

crappypatty · 18/11/2012 10:17

I have put 7 caramac bars, full bag of rhubarb & custard, 4 mars bars a big bag and three little bags of skittles each in about 650 ml and they all just taste of pure vodka. they have been dissolving since fri, the sweets are all dissolved but the chocolate is still settling, keep putting in hot water and shaking.

Why does my vodka taste just of vodka? Have I not put enough in? does it take a few weeks of brewing before it tastes like the sweets?

maristella · 18/11/2012 10:34

Amazing thread! :)

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 18/11/2012 12:00

Two Christmas presents sorted, thank you Smile

I shall be doing chocolate orange vodka, unless anyone has had trouble with that one?

tootssweet · 18/11/2012 12:04

Marking place on this - will be back for vodka related advice soon!

AmberLeaf · 18/11/2012 13:28

Crappy patty, I put about 25 cherry drop sweets in about 70cl of vodka, which was more than was recommended.

I did a rhubarb and custard one too and used about a bag and a half, not tasted the R&C one yet, but the cherry drops one tasted of cherry drops, but still really strong of vodka.

crappypatty · 18/11/2012 22:30

Thanks Amber :)

smallmole · 20/11/2012 20:12

I've been watching this thread avidly thinking I'd found an excellent Christmas present. Followed the instructions carefully but no sherbet lemon vodka for me - the bottle smashed in the dishwasher. It was a really cheap vodka, and presumably really thin glass, but I'm really keen to try again. Anyone got any idea where I went wrong?

AmberLeaf · 20/11/2012 20:52

Crappypatty, just to add, I have since added another pack of cherry drops to the bottle [10 sweets] as I thought the cherry one wasn't as sweet as the rhubarb and custard one, I didn't bother putting in the dishwasher again though, they were all dissolved in a day.

AmberLeaf · 20/11/2012 20:58

Oh no smallmole!

I was worried about that happening, I put mine into wine bottles.

strange because I have some fairly thin glasses and they are fine in my dishwasher?

BertieBotts · 21/11/2012 18:28

It might have been the pressure from the sealed bottle though?

OlaRapaceFru · 22/11/2012 08:28

Doesn't sherbet lemon fizz? So what BertieB said, the pressure with the sealed bottle in combination with the sherbet fizzing maybe?

brainonastick · 22/11/2012 13:58

I've just stumbled upon this thread - why is it not thread of the year day?

This is the kind of world changing stuff that MNetters can come up with if we put our minds to it. Brilliant Smile

bristols · 22/11/2012 14:20

I can't wait to get going on this! Fantastic Christmas present ideas all round :-)

LightHousekeeping · 23/11/2012 12:07

I'm off out now. Oh, where to start??? I think I'll buy mars bars. Do I need to stand the bottle in hot water?

OP posts:
LightHousekeeping · 23/11/2012 14:52

That naughty nigella tells me I've got to add 200mls of cream to my mars bars. Blinking heck.
