I've seen it come up on here before but I can't work out what it is. Can you get away with using the cheap stuff?

I've just been to the shop and got a small bottle of vodka, some butter mints and some sherbert lemons (Damn buy one get one free!)

I can't decide which sweets to eat and which to put in the vodka!

LynetteScavo · 10/11/2012 15:02

OK, maybe a silly question, but I don't drink Vodka.

Can you do anything similar with other alcohol?

fuzzpig · 10/11/2012 15:03

Clearly you have to try both!

Hope you don't mind OP, I reported this thread to be moved as it would be a shame if it disappears after 90 days!

fuzzpig · 10/11/2012 15:04

Apparently rum is good too LS.

GlaikitFizzog · 10/11/2012 15:05

There is a recipe further back for Christmas pudding rum lynette.

CatherineHMumsnet · 10/11/2012 15:11

We've been asked to move this into the Christmas section so it doesn't disappear so if there are no complaints we'll be doing this shortly.

Selks · 10/11/2012 15:18

Can you turn any of these recipes (such as the toffee vodka) into a creamy drink by adding cream?

Selks · 10/11/2012 15:39

Am thinking along the lines of malteser vodka (easy to get them into the bottle Grin anyway!) or dime bar vodka. Think those would work?

Selks · 10/11/2012 15:40

Must. Stop. Thinking. About. Chocolate. And. Alcohol.

GlaikitFizzog · 10/11/2012 15:48

Malteasers leave a chalky residue behind, just so you know!

weegiemum · 10/11/2012 15:52

I did it with Soor Plooms (might be Scotland specific!).

It was amazing

GlaikitFizzog · 10/11/2012 15:56

Soor plooms would be amazing!!

Black jacks and fruit salads haven't dissolved I. The dishwasher. So they have sort of clumped together in the side of he bottle. Hmm

gussiegrips · 10/11/2012 16:03

Soor plooms!

Where can one buy soor plooms nowadays...

NicholasTeakozy · 10/11/2012 17:30

I am so going to be making some 'dishwasher vodka' to give to me kids at xmas. :o

GlaikitFizzog · 10/11/2012 17:34

:o

OlaRapaceFru · 10/11/2012 18:38

I've decided I'm going to make some for me with Caramac!

lighthousekeeping · 10/11/2012 18:44

I don't know why I started this. I haven't got a bumming dishwasher.

OP posts:
OlaRapaceFru · 10/11/2012 18:47

Yeah, but you make make all sorts of different types without a dishwasher - some of them don't even need a dishwasher, and the other you can just stand the bottles in a bowl of hot water.

Don't give up now lighthousekeeping Grin

NicholasTeakozy · 10/11/2012 19:15

Youngest is 17 Glaikit :o

GlaikitFizzog · 10/11/2012 19:26

Well that's fine Nic! As long as they aren't still in nappies!

4forkssake · 10/11/2012 19:45

If you're making quite a few different flavours to give people, I've found these bottles to be really good. That way rope get to sample a few flavours & try can put their orders in for their favourites for next year!

Has anyone tried dairy milk vodka?

Dawnywoo · 10/11/2012 20:19

Ooh, hello fellow vodka tinkerers.

I've literally just made some chocolate orange vodka (3 bars terrys choc orange chopped up and rammed in the neck of a 35cl bottle)

Stood it in the sink filled with hot water for an hour - gave it a few shakes. Bingo! Looks lush, smells lush. Reminds me of the one I used to gorge on have occasionally in Revolution Bar.

Speaking of which - they are good for some good insipration www.revolution-bars.co.uk/lovevodka/vodkaflavours.php

No idea how they make the Birthday Cake vodka though.

Peanutbutterfingers · 10/11/2012 20:28

For those of us without dishwashers is there any reason not to do in a pan on stove overly heat enough to melt sweets/chocolate but not to cook off alcohol and decant into bottles?

Dawnywoo · 10/11/2012 20:32

Seriously, put it all in the bottle and just stand it in the sink with hot water.

Works a treat. No need to be messing on with the cooker or microwave.
