I've seen it come up on here before but I can't work out what it is. Can you get away with using the cheap stuff?

Can someone please give me a rough idea of how many sweets you use if you're making something like a sherbert lemon/cola cube/rhubarb and custard/werthers vodka.

Still undecided on which flavours to go for

I love this idea...gutted I'm 8 months pregnant! If you are making these as Xmas gifts, how do you store them before giving & how long does it last?

I did about a dozen sherbert lemons to a 35cl bottle vodka. Tastes nice, but I reckon it could go a few more. It's a good starting point though. You can always add...

The great thing about sherbert lemons, is that they dissolved into the vodka really quickly.

I bought one of those "standard big bags" of sweeties - the ones that are 3 for £2 in Morrisons (they're all the same size but I have no idea how much they weigh Blush ) and used the whole lot in a 70cl bottle of the cheapest vodka I could find and they took about a week to dissolve and within three weeks it was gone delicious.
I'd say at least 8oz of sweeties for a 70cl bottle.

Amazon sell soor plooms?

they'd better come in wee paper bags twisted at the edges, or I'll stamp my elderly foot...

Ok have made sherbet lemon vodka but it's gloopy, like syrup. Is that right? I made DH try some and he says it tastes like cough syrup! Do I need to strain it? Add sugar? Bin and start again??

How long do they keep?

Will candy cane vodka leave a scum do you reckon??

So if I crushed some canes, put in a bottle of grants finest vodka - how long would it take? Would I need to put in hot water? Or shake every day? Am confused.

What rum is best for the Christmas pudding rum- dark or white?

Report
GlaikitFizzog · 11/11/2012 17:04

I'd say dark rum personally

Glaikit I agree with the dark rum because it would just look so right Smile BeaWhe seriously - its alcohol - it will keep for ages - except these are all so great they will all be finished by New Years Day. I did the lemon sherbets and black jack - not together - but that could work Smile the lemon sherbets I just shook it occasionally, the black jack only needed a little shake...........roll on Christmas Grin

ooh. Are there sour apple boiled sweets available in England? We have some back home (US) but I've not seen them here. To be fair, I haven't actually looked Grin but they'd be my sweet of choice for this experiment, I think.

I do also already have Kilner bottles in, but that was because I was making vanilla extract with vodka and vanilla pods as gifts. hm.

I'm sat here testing my Rhubarb and Custard vodka. Trying it neat. Blimey, its slightly throat burney.

My black jack vodka is evaporating. And I mean that seriously, I'm not drinking it. Anyone have anyone why????

Lovecat · 13/11/2012 13:48

Word of warning - make sure your bottle of vodka is placed VERY securely in the dishwasher before turning it on - I got complacent last year and a poorly-balanced bowl knocked my vodka askew - picking broken glass out of a dishwasher is not something I want to have to do again not to mention the waste of vodka

Pear drop vodka on the go . I separated the yellows from the reds and made 2 smaller bottles . I did not smash the drops up at all just stood them in hot water until they melted
