....will be officially open for business on September 24th. I am just firing up the engines and dusting down the control room ready for action in case I forget to do it on the 24th

Do not post yet. Do not. Sit on your hands, ladies.

On your marks........................

Just received my Christmas organiser, a complete waste of money IMO, you could make something much much nicer for far less money! Oh well.

ethelb · 03/10/2012 13:04

Chrismas loo roll? Poncy?

I think not.....

If its tackier than tinsel it has to go I am afraid.

DuffyMoon · 03/10/2012 13:13

I find the festive toilet roll from M and S is very naice and it is NOT, under any circumstances to be used until Christmas Eve

anja1cam · 03/10/2012 13:14

Hello, glad I found this thread! I'll try my best to keep up!

Christmas is just not the right without loads of baking and cooking and making. Last couple of years I made about 8 different types of biscuits including proper Lebkuchen and gave the vast majority away as presents in mixed bags (they mostly improve with maturing so I set Sunday evenings in December aside...). I think my colleagues have come to expect it now! I also made a Pistachio Stollen, and it was a nice change from shop bought marzipan type.
Dinner is always Roast goose with red cabbage. Pudding variable but this year I am tempted to try sticky toffee pud.

In the chutney and jam stakes last year I gave away fiery tomato jam and beetroot chutney, and my bumpkin and lemon jam was an absolute hit the year before.

German genes help!

I'm planning to continue like it this year, also have DH birthday on the 24th to cater for... Following all your suggestions I have requested a whole pile of books from the library, maybe I'll actually get some of them before December...

Planning wise I only use spreadsheets (on google docs so I can access from everywhere) to plan the food and also the presents.

Advent calendars (for 2 DCs) are home made, last year was filled with lego people, this year I am switching to playmobil (buying mixed bags off e-bay works a treat....)

anja1cam · 03/10/2012 13:15

PS - thanks for the tip on Christmas edition cleaning stuff - does it just turn up in the Supermarkets or do I have to look somewhere special?

cat · 03/10/2012 14:09

Bookmarked this thread ages ago and just catching up!

When I followed it before I was living in a much bigger house. This year I am in a teeny tiny cottage with DH, DS1, DS2 and 3DDogs.

Kitchen/cooky stuff is fine - but large Olive wood Nativity scenes are not feasible

[sob]

Sad

Not actually spending Christmas day here - will be going to DParents on CEve and returning after BxDay.

So looking for poncetastic advent tips for a tiny, little house.... or poncetastic tips that are transportable..

I bought my first Christmas magazine today! WAhoo! Would have bought two but despite the fact that the shop had them out on the display they weren't in the system yet and therefore wouldn't couldn't sell it to me. I can't wait for Toddler to go to bed so I can have a proper browse.

Zeeky · 03/10/2012 18:05

Oooooo Scout which one did you buy???

lindsell · 03/10/2012 18:13

I saw the Christmas mags were out in our local shop but couldn't browse as ds1 was about to cause chaos so any recommendations welcome! From what I could see the good housekeeping one seemed to be just recipes, I'd like one that covers food/decs/crafty stuff etc.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 03/10/2012 19:29

Envy I looked but there weren't any Christmas mags in our sainsburys today.
It was only 9.05 so maybe they hadn't put them out yet.

Recommendations for which mags would be great! :)

VikingVagine · 03/10/2012 19:30
Envy

No nice Christmas mags here (France), pah!

BrainSurgeon · 03/10/2012 19:56

Festive toilet roll? Grin

You'll have to excuse me, I'm only a beginner in the poncetastic Christmas area, came here to learn...

Scout19075 · 03/10/2012 21:24

I bought the Prima Christmas Makes one. I have the 2011 one and enjoyed it so bought 2012's without being able to browse through it (Toddler was making a beeline for the toys, which I told him he could look at before we did the shopping, so I had to pick it up as we went past the magazines). Am finally sitting down for a few minutes before bed so will look through it in bed.

VoldemortsNipple · 04/10/2012 08:50

Ooh my CK Make Your Own Christmas Decorations book came yesterday. It's not a bad little book for making simple felt decorations, and once all the pieces are cut out, something you could make on a cold night snuggled up watching tv :)

Blatherskite · 04/10/2012 13:02

I very rarely shop at Sainsburys or ASDA as my local ones are a PITA to get to.

DD have just been to Sainsburys for Gold Marmite.

I blame you lot Wink

Titsalinabumsquash · 04/10/2012 14:34

My wreath frame has arrived ... On a scale of 1- lame, how bad is it that I am very excited to be starting this tonight? .... I possibly need to get out more.

BiddyPop · 04/10/2012 14:41

Oooh, Christmas mags!! I have to go down to the shop with the large selection tomorrow (I hope) so I may have a browse. Or on Monday. I have a stack about 3 feet tall of past year's mags (I got rid of 4 years worth of Eve's and Good Housekeepings recently, but cannot bring myself to be even 1 Christmas edition!).

OrangeKat · 04/10/2012 15:46

Afternoon all, I've been looking forward to getting all poncey but somehow missed this thread until today!
After some rather luke warm responses to my lovingly crafted gifts last year I have sneakily done most of my present buying already, and will be getting extra poncey on the house instead.
I've fed the mincemeat but that's about it this year- I need to get organised!

OrangeKat · 04/10/2012 15:46

I have just ordered Sarah. It had better be awesome!

WineGless · 04/10/2012 17:36

Have just ordered my free tickets for the ideal home at Christmas exhibition via money supermarket so I can stand in awe at others poncery!

Zeeky · 04/10/2012 17:55

Ooooo wineglass how did you get those tickets? Tell me more! Where & when is it?

lindsell · 04/10/2012 18:13

I got the house beautiful Christmas ideas mag today - good range of lovely ideas for decorating inspiration, not much in the way of crafty things, the recipes are quite standard (delia's turkey, Jamie's roast veg etc) but quite an easy design for a gingerbread house and a tasty sounding white choc cheesecake.

My wooden tree blanks arrived from eBay, I also got some heart shaped ones and they look good as they are so will be great when decorated. Smile

WineGless · 04/10/2012 18:21

14-18 November at earls court in London. Just go on money saving expert and there is a code with link to the sure. The only free tickets left were wed and thurs

lindsell · 04/10/2012 19:20

Thanks for that winegless - I've just got free tickets for the wed (that's the only day left now) I like being on mat leave and able to go to these things Grin

Zeeky · 04/10/2012 19:24

Ahhh no good for me - got school run and I'm about 2 hours from Earl's Court :(
