Xmas Grin
OP posts:
MamaPizza · 27/10/2012 21:01

You cook on Boxing day? That's our chippie day Grin

I was all done this time last year, but there was still so much loveliness in the shops after that I bought more and more. I'm just leaving it a bit late now, so I can really have a mad, crazy dash just before the finish line.

Molepom · 27/10/2012 21:47

Mama, I would measure your room. How tall are the walls?

Order one to a foot less of that size and then you will need to take a small amout off the bottom and a small amount off the top so that the very top branch isn't so spindly and that it can take up plenty of water. Let it stand for 24 hours in a bucket of water before unwrapping it.

Place in a stand or pot of earth or what ever you are using and secure into place. Move the tree out away from the wall, unwrap and let the branches fall into place. Trim where necessary from the sides and the top then decorate and push intoits final place.

The needles are a lot softer than normal needles but the smell is just the same. As long as you keep it watered and away from the central heating it will be fine and wont drop a lot unless provoked.

It's expensive and with £10 delivery but at a date that suits you it is worth every penny. I love mine.

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow · 27/10/2012 22:23

No mama am going to make it Christmas eve and just heat up boxing day!
Are takeaways open?

MamaPizza · 28/10/2012 19:46

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! I totally forgot about the heating!!!! Usually we have the tree in the bay window, but because we have gone fish mad in the last year that spot is taken now and we wanted to put it on the other end of the room. There is a radiator! And I don't think we can turn it off separately and even if, the living room would be freezing. Argh! What to do? I don't want a fake tree.

Great advice though Mole, so if we find a spot then we'll do as you say.

And yes, chesty, our chippie is open on boxing day. It's a tradition now. We don't buy a full turkey anyway, just one of those little circular ones as it's only the three of us so we never have left overs.

Molepom · 29/10/2012 17:54

You can always do what my parents did one year and have it in the hallway if it's big enough.

MamaPizza · 30/10/2012 07:54

Nope, hallway too small. I seriously need to find a place. I think the only solution would be to move the fish tank temporarily. Oh poor fishies. But at least I could have my tree in the bay window as every year. Will have to consult the man of the house.

Molepom · 30/10/2012 10:49

The new John Lewis Ad is due to be shown a week on Friday apparently..here I can't wait!

MamaPizza · 30/10/2012 11:04

This means that Christmas starts on FRIDAY!!!!!!! Grin

Molepom · 30/10/2012 11:07

A week on Friday but Yay!

I've never, in my life, wanted halloween and Bonfire Noght out of the way so quickly.

ISeeDeadFairies · 30/10/2012 11:12

I wanna join!!!! Please?

Molepom · 30/10/2012 11:20

Hello!

Ready for Christmas? or getting ready?

ISeeDeadFairies · 30/10/2012 11:26

Almost ready. Just food and tree to organise really. Feel woefully inadequate now I've read the whole thread though!

MamaPizza · 30/10/2012 12:05

Welcome to the mad house ISeeDeadFairies Smile You are very organized! Good girl Grin

I don't like Halloween and Bonfire anyway, so glad when it's all over and the shops are filled with Christmas kitsch and tinsel.

Solved the tree dilemma, fish tank will be moved. Will measure room with DH tonight and then we are going to order the Frasier Fir. Am thinking of having it delivered Saturday 8th December. Is that too early for a real tree? I don't want to wait much longer. I'd even love to get it right on the first! When are you getting yours, mole?

Molepom · 30/10/2012 13:19

I've ordered it for the 14th but I think I'm going to change it for an earlier delivery date funnily enough.

MamaPizza · 31/10/2012 08:48

I looked at the beginning of the thread, you mentioned that you had it from the 8th last year without watering. So, hopefully that will be fine then. Can't wait, almost November!

Molepom · 31/10/2012 21:59

Who-hoo, that's halloween over with.

Just need Bonfire night out of the way, watch the John Lewid ad on Friday and Christmas has started!

MamaPizza · 01/11/2012 09:16

Hurrah! Didn't even carve a pumpkin this year, I just want it to be Christmas. One more month and the Elf will arrive, can't wait! First time with an elf on a shelf.

Molepom · 01/11/2012 10:30

OK.

I couldn't wait. I've emailed the complany to ask if it can be delivered for the 7th instead.

Ooooh..that sounds exciting Mama.

Chesty where are you?

MamaPizza · 01/11/2012 12:42

Oooops Blush I just spent £60 on Christmas decorations. Went to Wilkos for some mould remover, couldn't resist having a nose at the Christmas section and lo behold, they had a whole section filled with nordic decorations. I couldn't resist and got virtually everything. Also got matching wrapping paper, ribbons, bunting - the lot! DH is going to be thrilled kill me Grin

I'm having mine delivered on the 8th as it is a Saturday. Can't wait!!!!

Yes, where is Chesty?

I wish mumsnet would have automatic thingies here to upload pictures, so we could share our Christmas fun easily. I've seen it on the pumpkin post. Mumsnet, could you pleaaaaaase? Thanks

Molepom · 01/11/2012 13:20

Mama, I went to Meadowhall the other week to get ds the lego r2-d2 and got a load more christmas decs from debenhams and house of fraiser...I'm delighted that the displayes are starting already.

I got some snowballs for the tree but they were cheaper than priced on here.

MamaPizza · 02/11/2012 08:43

I'm delighted that the displayes are starting already

Oh yes, me too! Finally!!!

I am still alive, DH likes my Christmas decs. Woohoo! He said that I could even get a few more bits and bobs when I see them. Grin

Tree ordered, only getting 6-7 ft one as the star that I bought yesterday is almost a foot and the room isn't as tall as I thought.

Expecting 3 parcels from amazon today. Postie is going to loooove me. All presents for DS Smile

MamaPizza · 02/11/2012 22:25

Big Amazon parcel arrived today. Wahey! I want to plaaaaaaay Grin

Molepom · 03/11/2012 05:50

LOL.....I love this time of year!

I've been awake for a couple of hours now and gave up trying to get back to sleep some time ago, the heating has just kicked in and there's ICE all over the cars in the street.

MamaPizza · 03/11/2012 10:04

Eeek, ice! Bring out the hot chocolate. Hope you got some more sleep.

I have bought more presents yesterday. This boy is going to be so spoilt. The thing is, I have to also get him 'German' presents. Well, I don't have to, but I want to keep up the German traditions and we will celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve in addition to Christmas day. Got him a mobigo at Tesco, reduced to £30 and will get the German cartdridge games to go with it. Spoke to vtech customer services already, they will be compatible. So at least he has a nice present from the German Christkindl. And then there is still Nikolaus on the 6th...

ChestyNutsSparklerHell · 03/11/2012 11:02

I'm here ladies! Thread dropped off my list and am now working 5 days a week Hmm

I did a huuuuge amazon order and it's been like Christmas every morning.
Vair proud of my Santa toilet seat cover and mat Grin

ChestyDog had a fit this morning so had to cancel plans and may do a spot of wrapping in front of Christmas with the kranks.
